Ash mate, I have a few dozen various V7s in my collection. I'd really like to mail you a mini Lockwood pinning kit with genuine lockwood keypins as well as some of the original balanced spools. A lock such as this deserves the correct pins IMHO. Will drop you an email later on this afternoon

Yo, Iona here. The V7 generally has normal keypins and spools and tapered top pins, with balanced stacks. All of the left stacks are the same pin type and all the right are the same too, so for eg it goes spool tapered spool tapered... or tapered spool tapered and so on. This one is typical of the V7s you actually see in Australia, where they've been pinned with whatever the locksmith had - I was taking apart some old door knobs as I was packing your package up and decided to chuck one in without gutting or picking it lol.

@@westlockpicking yeah mate, most of the used ones out in the wild, 95% of them are master rekeyed with lab pins and shitloads of wafers by the locksmiths that install them. For the V7s in my collection, I rekey them with genuine tapered pins and spools. No master waffers. Not that they will be used while i own them Also subbed to your channel too mate. Good to see more aussies jumping onboard :)

The Lockwood specifications for V7 pinning is every second driver is to be a spool. So you would have 3 spools on the left bank or 4 spools on the right bank. Also they would have balanced stacks with 10 lengths of spools and 5-6 lengths of standard tapered drivers. The key pins would be tapered also. The kik you have would have fitted a door knob or most likely a padlock which has a particular adapter to accommodate that bible.
@funkeyfastdrawmonkey1483

Haha yeah my thoughts exactly after seeing the LAB keypins and keypin drivers rather than the original balanced spools lol A V7 lock with original key deserves the correct pins to match IMHO

@@funkeyfastdrawmonkey1483 Totally agree, the spools and tapered pins make it much more challenging and fun pick. I’ve re-pinned so many that were full of master wafers and they just fall open lol.

I just gutted my Lockwood V7 Oval and found 3 spools, 4 standard drivers. The pin stacks also appear "balanced" with shorter drivers corresponding with longer key pins. The standard driver pins were not beveled in the same way yours were. Also, the shortest key pin had a slight bevel on the non-key bitting end that none of the other key pins had. I can provide a picture for clarity's sake. I can say that picking this with spools installed is a somewhat unique experience as the spools can cause very deep false sets depending on their angle relative to the core/bible. I hope some of that helps!

Hi Lock Noob, The V7 has been repinned, they normally have at least 3 spools although this we found did vary from lock to lock, depending I guess, on the person assembling them in the factory. I notice some of the key pins are coloured - these are not standard factory pins. When they were first released, a rep. from Lockwood brought some cylinders to our shop. While he watched we found and quickly altered a key blank that entered the cylinder, and duplicated a key that worked. The angles are so slight that the angled cuts were not necessary to allow this "duplicate" to work. The angles diminished, the deeper the cuts. The rep. was understandably shocked, believing the "V" concept made duplication very difficult. The V7 System had its flaws, and had a relatively short life in the world of Master Key Systems.

I found a Lockwood V7 pamphlet a while ago, it states every second driver is a spool and all balanced pin stacks. All the ones I’ve come across have been pinned incorrectly and I’ve had to re-pin them. Luckily I found 10 sizes of the V7 spools on eBay which made pinning easier but the standard drivers only come in 5-6 sizes as far as I can tell. I’ve also modified non V7 keys to suit and indeed the angled cuts are not necessary. I’ve always wondered if the V7 was pinned in the factory or pinned by locksmiths as I thought they were only used by certain industries and not available to the general public or over the counter for sale. I’d love to hear what flaws the system had as I’m a bit of a Lockwood nut.
@funkeyfastdrawmonkey1483
@funkeyfastdrawmonkey1483 Год назад
@@KeylessEntry well said as always bud :) The main flaw that ive found with V7s, was the depth of cuts. Cant be a really deep 8 or 9 cut next to a 0 or 1 cut otherwise the pins can jam even when they're balanced stacks. Have you ecer noticed that with any of your V7s?
@brianhignett8954
@brianhignett8954 Год назад
@@KeylessEntry Hi, Balanced pin stacks was a Lockwood speci. purely because of the limited room in the bible, but we found that factory placed spools were a little erratic. Every second driver would give you 3 spools, but factory pinned locks that we saw were not necessarily pinned that way. Bare in mind they were also full of master pins, as they were only used in master keyed systems. Flaws is perhaps not the right word, you couldn't replace key in knob cylinders etc. due to the "V" shaped bible. The "V" and angle cuts was designed to give extra security against unauthorised key duplication - it didn't. The keyway was fairly open regardless of profiles, and I was told it was "rushed" through to compete with BiLock. We had our own V7 "Locksmith" profile and a key machine to cut these keys, but it never proved popular or cost effective against other in line restricted key systems.
@KeylessEntry
@KeylessEntry Год назад
@@funkeyfastdrawmonkey1483 Cheers bro😎 I’ve got a few with radical bitting but haven’t had any issues so far. The only issues I’ve had was with thin master wafers flipping in the chambers that caused jams. Also I’ve found damage to the plug and housing from master wafers flopping around causing grooves in the housing and enlarged plug chambers.
@KeylessEntry
@KeylessEntry Год назад
@@brianhignett8954 Appreciate the great info. Balanced stacks make sense due to the short bible height just like 530 cylinders. The pamphlet I’ve got with the pinning specs has a 570 oval pictured and mentions that the different height drivers prevent manipulation. I’m not quite clear on how that would work, perhaps a decoding method of some kind?

others have said already but no those are not the "correct" drivers but the thing with used locks from Australia is you never really know what your going to get. Lots of locksmiths just installed whatever it seems. they can be very tricky with 3 or 4 spools and tapered drivers

When I started using my PanaVise, the clicks got louder. The base is hollow, and it works like a sounding box (like a guitar or violin) - it amplifies the clicks.

Very nice lock. The angled cuts look very odd on camera, almost like there are two parallel rows. Wrong sort of pliers for that clip, though. Those pliers are intended for snap rings with holes in the ears. The other tool of yours with the half circle cutouts should work better, i think.

Wondering about the point of the V format. Given that it doesn't seem to affect the picking difficulty, I'm guessing it is to make the key harder to copy?

The V7 format are quite old. 1 of hundreds of restricted systems used around Australia. The V7 245 padlocks from the 80s and 90s are rare and highly sought after by collectors. V7 restricted systems have slowely been made obsolete due to newer and much higher security locks on the market such as BiLock and ABLOY protec.
