Wow & thank you. I heard of other people breaking things doing this. I an glad someone finally shows the right way to do this, and I can see why others had trouble. I replaced my old layered belt with a Drive belt with clips & pin. I also added some heat shrink with glue on the clips to stop the annoying click click click of the pins as they hit the metal pulley Wish I had seen this sooner.
Great video, I really do love the old machines, at high school we did metal work class, I really liked using the lathe, no idea which model, I just remember how solid the machine felt and how everything moved with such ease & precision.
Thanks for the video, I have been thinking about replacing the same gear in my Logan 200, and it is in much worse condition than yours. It’s called putting it in back gear with the knob out but mine has never worked so I am not sure what it does.
The gears under the front pullies is the back gear. When you pull the knob on the front it raises these gears. Then you have the pull the button on the bull gear that is located inside the ring gear. This will disengage the bull gear and let the drive train to turn at a slower speed. I had to replace the back gear. It cost about 400.00 from Logan Actuators. They supply all parts for all logan lathes. Only one problem it is expensive. Login also has Manuel's with exposed views of all assembles showing part numbers.
Nice lathe, your hinges on the top cover are eccentric. Adjust those and your cover will set on just right. Also belt tension could be too tight. Good luck.

The belt tension is adjusted with the screw and nut protruding out the back centre top of the lid. This bolt pushes on a lever under the pullies. I have this lathe and installed the same belt you just did about 10 to 15 years ago.

Yes that engages your back gears not sure why but mine got stuck I ended up breaking a tooth off trying to get it to go back in. If you engage those make sure you disengage your spindle first.
