During the summer of 1975, LOGAN'S RUN filming took place within two buildings on the Dallas Market Center campus; the Apparel Mart and the World Trade Center. This video highlights the Apparel Mart which supplied the Great Hall and Arcade (i.e. West Atrium) locations seen in LOGAN'S RUN. The footage in this video is excerpted from a 20 minute promotional film showcasing all of the Dallas Market Center buildings, filmed in 1970 titled DALLAS MARKET: CENTER OF WORLD TRADE. The Apparel Mart was built in 1964 and demolished in 2006.

Oh, it's there, but the new Dallas Market Center is at 2100 N Stemmons. The original building was at 2300 N Stemmons. It was right next door to the Renaissane which is still there. If you'l notice, you can still see the outline of where the building was. :-(

This is so freaky to see. As a kid, born in 1973, we would come down from Oklahoma to order clothes for our little shop. I remember this place pretty well, circa 1977. I remember being bored while they bought clothes, and waiting around for them to drink coffee in that big atrium area. Super sad it's torn down. We would almost always eat at the Old San Francisco steakhouse as well.
@hamradiocq
@hamradiocq 5 лет назад
As a side note, there was also an apparel market in Kansas City we would go to, but it was a smaller venue. What's interesting about this, is, in the 70's my family, and relatives, owned a handful of women's clothing shops in NE Oklahoma, Joplin and SE Kansas. When the malls came in in the 80s that hurt us...but we did move our stores to the malls... Then the big department stores (JC Penny, Neuman's, Dillards) came later into the malls and really hurt us. The death knell for main street stores like ours, was when Wal-Mart started selling clothes. Almost over night our store business died as we couldn't compete with Wal-Mart.

I wish the film had shown more establishing wide views that included the top, as in that post card. It really shows the unique and different design of the mall. Detractors of the film love to say "gee they used a mall as a futuristic city" but this was way different then most malls of the day much less current ones.

Is that Don Loper at 2:40?
@Greathall75
@Greathall75 5 лет назад
Certainly looks close, but I'm not convinced. At the time this was filmed (1970) Don Loper would have been ~63 years old. Comparing the guy in the film against photos of Loper, I see a close resemblance in the nose and eyes, but the checks and ear look quite different. Unfortunately, I can't find any photo of Loper past mid-1960s. If we could find some pics of him closer to 1970 it might solve the mystery.

JFK was on his way to the Trade Mart. Logan's Run was filmed at the Apparel Mart. Both buildings were part of the Dallas Market Center campus, however the Apparel Mart was not built until after the death of JFK.
