It looks like those books were wrote by some old man afraid of young people, computers and drugs. The guy thinks of himself as a family man but indulges in fantasies of multiple younger lovers and he likes kids only if they make for good plot devices. He inserts an high-scholl bully as a major villain and takes his revenge on him, indicating a lack of self-awareness and poor social skills. Then he rewrites the first book in the vain hope to live again the little glory it provided. What a beautiful cautionary tale.

I once heard from somewhere that Logans Run 'chases' were a thing at sci-fi conventions back in the day, where one person would dress up as Logan, and then other people would try to catch them on some wild steeplechase through the streets. Apparently they fell out of fashion because most people just saw a man in a striped shirt being chased down by a gang, and called the police a lot. Can't currently find anything to back up that recollection, but I'm sure I didn't just imagine it.

Logan's Run is like Darling in the Franxx, the concept is cool but the creator added so much random shit like aliens into it that it's hard to follow and just generally confusing

Stephen King wrote some of his best work during his drug period, too bad it didn't work for William Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. TWO of them in the midst of the drug decade could only write a "meh" novel. Then Nolan carried the torch by himself and continued the series whose moral ended being you can do too much acid in the sixties OR become a literary author but not both.

In the early days of the internet, people would put stuff that they wrote for class online. So you'd get reviews of books, albums and movies (so many reviews of Blade Runner.) I read a review of Logan's Run (the book) that basically said the author was saying that youth culture was shallow and self-destructive, and that the computer was just youth culture being enforced. Then I read another review that said LR sucked, and I never got around to seeing if it was insightful, or if it just sucked.

btw, the movie is freaking awesome. that place is like a giant mall, logan and his buddy were the worst shots ever, it had the best (weirdest) chase seen i'd seen since blade runner, which in all fairness i watched right before it...

You could argue that this was the only dystopia that has been effective in solving the central issue in the book, the lower average lifespan, due to the lower birth rates of the boomers and gen-x.

I was just saying "what?" the entire time he was describing Logan's World

The movie's a giant slice of cheese but it's waaaay better and more coherent than the book series. I also liked Ustinov as the crazy cat man and thought the final scene, where the inhabitants of the dome are awed at meeting the first old person they've ever seen was pretty effective. . I've also seen some episodes of the TV series. It's based on the movie and is basically a traveling hero adventure series like Kung Fu. The highlight of the series is a cynical, cranky old android that the heroes join up with played by David Moffat. Other than that, it's a pretty typical 70's era adventure show.
