This was the thing that was alluding me, I have just jumped into recording my tracks and was perplexed at buses and aux and couldn't get any further, all my different instruments were going to the same bus1. Thanks for doing these videos it means a lot to me rather than people just saying "thanks ".You deserve more as your teaching clear, concise and relaxed. BIG THANK YOU, MAN.

Thx for all your videos man, I re-entered the Logic world recently and still love it. I started on Logic in the 90s when it used to be called "Notator". How it has evolved over the years has been mind-blowing. You seem to be extremely passionate about music production which is awesome. I am too (again) and found out at 40 y.o that the extra passion, drive & creativity is due to ADHD, which originally I thought was a curse but now know that it is a gift that needs to be managed. All the best from Australia. =]

A great shortcut to this is selecting your tracks and right clicking and making a summing stack (not folder stack) and logic will creat these busses for you really quickly

This was helpful as I'm learning Logic X. I couldn't figure out how to create a new bus, but it's as simple as assigning channels to a bus. The only thing I noticed is that VCA (now DCA) is not the same thing as a bus on an analog or digital mixer.

your output is clipping all the time, you could have put all the faders down, so you actually wouldn't need the limiter which kills the sound of the drums and made them sound phasy, you need more headroom anyways, also it is a great tool to send from those bustracks to other buses, where you can use parallel compression, especially for making drums punchy and vocals cut through cheers, your videos are nice =D

I don't think anyone in the film/ TV post production industry would call this a submaster. I used to work in postproduction for NBC Universal in LA and a "submaster" is a finished product like a movie that exists either as a digital video tape or as a video file that is ready to be sent out to the client (such as HBO or Netflix) and be broadcast or streamed. It is either dubbed from a "master" video tape or video file or from another submaster tape or video file. "Submix" is the preferred nomenclature in the post production world for grouping channels and sending them to a single aux channel. Analog video tape is a rare thing today but you do occasionally see them used as a source. But they try to back up old media regularly by transferring it on to new media as a way of archiving them.

A quick suggestion: right-click on the mixer, choose 'configure channel strip components' and change 'Track Name' to 2 or 3 Lines. Makes it far easier to see what's on a channel.

What I did prior to watching this video is to create Track Stacks for groups of stacks, as Folder Stacks. The same benefits are gotten from doing it this way so far as having a master fader for each grouping as well as having mute and solo. In addition, each Stack has a disclosure triangle making the individual tracks available, revealing just that grouping. I find this highly desirable. HOWEVER, the Track Stack does NOT allow for adding effects to the entire group. It has no area for Audio FX. To be more specific, no EQ or compression or anything as a group so far as a Track Stack is concerned, for that you need the aux track groupings as described in the video.
@SuedeSilver
@SuedeSilver 6 лет назад
James Gramze a bit late on this response but if you make sure it’s a “summing stack” rather than a folder stack you can add effects. It’s a great shortcut because logic will automatically create the busses for you. Cheers!

Logic isn't letting me bus any tracks to anywhere, it only goes to the stereo out track. It lets me select which bus to put it on, but not where the output goes. ):

Great channel....I keep coming back every time I pick up on Logic...I'm in it for the fun and not using it on a day to day basis. I'm not sure if you have a video that covers this: I was looking at Synthesiser/Soundscape/Flying Waves. When you open up all the tracks that make up the sound, it's not particularly easy for me to figure out what and where some of the buses are coming from and going too. In that case...Bus1 and Bus 2 Be great to see a video explanation of some of these setups, especially how to back engineer whats going on. Cheers

great Tutorial man!! question? I make beats on fl studio and I master my tracks there, bounce them and record on logic. can I still make submixes on vocals and so on? I know I can't do that for the instruments due to already be on track together.

So I have just started mixing some stuff and am using sub mixes for different instrument groups. It is really useful when trying to get those final balances. All great but what I have realised is that the outputs of the Aux tracks is going straight to the Stereo Out. I could route them to the sub mix groups but some of them are shared. Any thoughts? Just upgraded from GB so a bit new to this aspect of it all.

Just reading this post. Busing your drums to an aux won't effect your indivisual track levels. However it will allow you to control the overall level and enable you to manipulate your bussed mix as a whole.
