Sorry if I wasn’t clear on the newscast. I was talking about the old men at church who acted this way with me when I was growing up as a teenager in the 1970s. These men would’ve been born in 1900, 1910, 1920 and there is a big difference in how they were raised during the first part of the twentieth century they were World War II vets and their behavior was very different from men today. I was not trying to excuse them, I was saying that the church men who exhibited this inappropriate behavior toward me when I was a teenager were literally born around 120 years ago. Excellent as always. Thank you. One of the biggest contradictions that bothered me when first reading the BoM as an innocent Seminary student 55 years ago and then again as a missionary was: "...without money and without price" (2 Nephi 26:25) vs. tithing. This stuck out like a sore thumb to me, but like a good kid I didn't make a peep about it.

I am currently taking care of my 94 yo father who lives with me. He paid tithing his whole life, but can't afford to live without help. Just a thought, it would be nice to have help.

Rebecca, the experience the young woman alleges in her Tik tok was absolutely the sort of behaviour women of our generation encountered too frequently. The uninvited touching was quite common in our last ward in the last ten years; thankfully there were also challenges to this sort of unwelcome attention. I applaud this young woman for speaking out; I would agree with her that this won't be the first occasion he has done it. He was extremely confident. It's also unlikely his wife is unaware he has a problem.

Oh wow, I know one of the people suing over tithing. I used to go to church with him.

I worked for a church . NOT the Mormon church but a large one! A certain part of their local parish ministry was a charity. This was funded by grants from outside sources. Every year, each individual body, which gave money, required a report with bank statements and hard proof as to how this money was used down to the last euro and cent. The Church itself was not allowed to control this money at all. When this part of the ministry closed down, any grant monies had to be returned to the outside source and could not be kept by the church involved. While the church itself is rich in property, etc, like the Mormon Church, at least in this small aspect and in the work I did for them, this was all above board. It's amazing how churches acrue wealth from members' hard earned donations. Not really the kind of religion that Jesus imagined as he turned over the tables of the money changers in the Temple. There will be queues in that Rich line and that Needle is gonna need a lot of scaffolding used in that shopping arcade to support it as all these rich religious financial wizards and their helpers try to get to heaven or heavens. At 40:15 regarding PEF: I worked in Self-Reliance and was told multiple times that the PEF was an endowment to make money in which to make loans. In fact, I was told multiple times that our department was entirely funded on the interest of the PEF fund. Ifyou listen closely to the announcement by Hinckley he actually says the intend to create an endowment, which most people would not understand.

Oh Rebecca. I was so naive as a teenager l longing for fatherly love. Looking back I can see the inappropriateness happening with men in my ward.

1:02:59 my dad is in a Singles ward bishop and was in a YSA bishopric for four years from 2010-2014. Just from talking with him, i know that YSA wards are famous for not being able to keep track of records. Numbers might not be declining, but often ysa’s go to wards with friends or college wards, dont like the ysa ward because of the “meat market” aspect. That being said, the meat market aspect is dependent on bishop roulette. My father’s times in the bishopric were slightly better than other wards because they focused on helping ysa keep their covenants, thinking that if they were doing that it would eventually lead to marriage. It was a healthier ysa ward feeling for sure. But the meat market aspect, combined with the very uneven numbers, makes it super difficult to keep people engaged in the wards.

How do we know that the LDS elder was not simply proselytizing with his hand on her thigh? The prophet Joseph Smith was commanded to proposition teenagers by an angel with a drawn sword!

So, the church makes a ridiculously high steeple that would require a red aviation light? (Which the church themselves would not want) Meaning they threw out a number so high that they could come down to a different height and the city would feel the church making a concession.

I can always tell when someone is smoking when I’m talking to them on the phone. They breathe different. I can hear them take a puff. Even if their mouth isn’t near the mouth of the phone.

Could children of participating parents who died during the period of the class put in a claim for the estate to obtain a return of the donated funds?

I’m an accountant, not a lawyer, so take this with a grain of salt. President Hinckley’s statement that tithing would not be used also revealed that investment income on tithing reserves would be used. This really muddies the water on the definition of tithing in a public statement. I think most reasonable minds would agree that earnings on invested time tithing ought to be regarded as tithing, but the distinction drawn by Pres Hinckley, I believe, was done to assure the members that the Church wasn’t slipping back into overspending that nearly bankrupted the Church a few decades earlier. It’s pretty impossible to prove an ambiguous statement true or false, let alone prove reliance to n that statement as an inducement in a situation like this. The Church regularly preaches tithing as a divine obligation, as well as members’ complete lack of say in the disbursement of funds. That’s the inducement-it’s religious. Given the ambiguity in the statement and the context, I would be shocked if this case even goes to discovery, let alone judgment for the plaintiffs. It looks performative to me, so it’s odd to see the legal experts (who are not financial experts) in this space even considering the possibility of a performative suit.
