The radar is a problem for sure. But also problematic is, that the missile is marked with the red diamond for the whole burn time (including sustainer phase) of 15,5sec. This makes it easy to react for every aware player. If it was marked only for the real acceleration phase of 4,5sec then i would be fine with it.

That is why I keep my radar on ACM at all times

@@hreple Until they fix the radar i say yes. I have been killed a lot because i am concentrating on trying to get the radar to work. PD has not helped me 8 out of 10. Keep that in mind if your radar is not working just forget about it concentrate on the fight.

F-111, F-4S and F-5F should be in the game.

@@theneef174 From what I can find the Ls would have similar range and performance to the Js or Gs already in the game but with a limited all-aspect range that i would guess wouldnt be too far off from the R60Ms already in game. It may have the better seeker head similar to the Gs but I havnt seen really any info on that specifically but since it was developed after the Gs than id say its a safe bet.

@@charlesbukowski9836 they introduced 3 operations (Afghanistan, Vietnam (which is what you saw in the vid) and a third) in Air RB with the Enduring Confrontation mechanics. Bigger maps, more and dynamic objectives, time to clear AI targets till the end of the match (even if the whole enemy team is already wiped out).

Let me Clarify, the Agile Eagle upgrade was for USAF ONLY not Navy, the Navy had their own maneuverability upgrade program which was for the upcoming F-4S (which was being built) however, many F-4Js were retrofitted with this maneuverability upgrade.

@@willsills6353 this is where you are wrong…. The FG.1 is equipped with the AWG-11 system using the AN/APG-60 Radar while the FGR.2 is equipped with the AWG-12 system using the AN/APG-61 radar. The 60 is an upgrade on the APG-59 fitted in the AWG-10 system for the USN F-4J and is the first Look Down-Shoot Down radar system ever used and likewise the 61 is an upgrade over the 60.

@@willsills6353 which is not what is in the Real FG phantoms. Imo, the Pulse Doppler radar on the F-4J is extremely finicky, and struggles greatly trying to lock someone that's not flying directly towards you. The F-4Js PD radar is definitely a limiting factor as to why it cannot abuse the range of the AIM-7Fs. Flying directly towards the enemy in an F-4 is not very viable as well (specially with the somewhat mediocre speed of the F-4J), so going low and trying to flank the enemy probably offers more in terms of surviving early game. But that's just my take on it, it's just not an aircraft meant to fight on the frontlines like the MLD is.

It could also have a 6x Sparrow loadout, the inner pylons where the sidewinders are usually mounted can be used for sparrows as well.... would also be very interesting to see if it was ever mounted with 5x sparrow + 2x sidewinders, that'd be an interesting loadout too, as having the IR missiles can be handy at times.

Going to altitude alone is suicide as you just get singled out even easier. and there are a lot of planes that can't lock you on the deck while you can lock them because of the PD. I see that as a bigger advantage. If you get a radar missile launched at you at high alt you basically just die and it becomes a trade simulator. unless you pre chaff, but pre chaffing burns all your CMs which isn't great for the long game plan. Additionally, being able to use terrain to block locks, visuals and sneak around. It depends on the map and the matchup as well as what my team is doing. But in the end at top tier I prefer lower altitude. In most vehicles.

It shines in the new RB EC maps, so I’d say pick the SARH missile based on the map size.

Extra thrust since it has to operate on carriers, 9g's cause its a naval bird, and on the aim7's there's zero reason not to give them to the F4e other than gaijin wanting to paypig for the f4j which makes me sad

@@memestercreamster1112 Well at least not having AIM-7Fs is not a huge loss, you get the F-4J for the PD radar anyways. The E-2s work as well if not better in the current shorter-mid range meta anyways. However the the Fs are probably really good in simulator battles.

extra thrust is also pretty much nullified by the big shlong that you have to carry

I guess I’m just getting my hopes up. I loved old top tier where it was basically phantom E vs 21bis, that we’re each very different planes, one excelling where the other was weak, and vise versa.

@@henryfraipont9343 first it was f4c vs mig 21 f13 where f4c was top dog for a while clubbing russia and germany, then it was smt and MF which were brought in to balance things out and F4C was the one being clubbed, soon after they added f4e, gave it counter measures and radar missiles so f4e was smacking mig 21s around, so they added mig 21 bis to smack around f4e soon they lowered the rip speed for mid 21s on deck increased deck speeds for f4es and things changed again where f4e was smacking everyone around again (bis was still good but half of your team would be in smts and MFs while all of US would bring f4e) then the r60s got nerfed heavily and their affinity for flares increased a lot. Now they added viggen ej kai and mld and the f4e is being smacked around again. So wait a few months this is how warthunder works US will soon be smacking around other nations again, its all still "just like the old times"

@@ilikepies4877 true, the F-4S isn't really much better than the F-4J, just smokeless engines and some other small changes, the F-14A or F-111 will need to come next

@@user-ur1uh1oz3e compare them both ingame. The FGR2 has a mediocore PD radar, but the F4J's is utterly shit and locks air, ground and other stuff if the enemy doesn't fly directly towards you.

Yeah this thing straight up locks dust particles. When you use the ACM mode it constantly picks up random locks in the air

Yes i agree it is locking up everything in the F4J watching the video, what i fly is the brit phantoms and the same thing happens with my jets exactly the same so i have to say its the same problem.

No it just straight up doesn't work half the time. It's super finicky.

F4-E is even worse then, I guess literally the only viable fighter right now in US tree is the F5.

@@dakotafinney8152 my point still stands. Killing people from far away is more relevant that risking your position. AIM9G changed from 16g to 18g, one can score 6km kills top to down in both cases.

Also good video, I agree on all of the points you made about the F-4J… not that crazy, pretty average. The advice to use AIM-7E-2s is sound. As well as it’s problems with its drag.

Back when i made the video the 7F was considerably worse at closer ranges It was much more of a trade-off

Radar in general is kinda fucky right now, there was supposed to be a fix rolled out with this patch but they held it back for some reason.

@@silience4095 I do run it on pd at low alt but when i'm diving on someone going in my direction even ACM mode with PD has trouble keeping lock for my sparrows

Unless their is a teammate nearby then it regains the ability to lock.

They are better at altitude but the main criticism still stands. The fact it burns so long means lobbing them at long ranges gives the bandit a large window in which he can recognise the threat notch you or manoeuvre kill the missile by bleeding it of energy once the sustainer dies.

the sustainer motor keeps it at that 25G limit for much longer, it gets a bigger warhead, a better seeker and aforementioned sustainer motor. Its just because it's not for dogfighting people go "hurr durr, missile bad" It can get some extremely long range kills even on small maps, 22km+, just needs the right conditions

It was the first AIM-7 with solid state electronics which substantially improved its realiability. Even the E-2's had very low PK chance IRL, wasn't until the AIM-7M that the design was really performing nicely.

it's the exact same as the US F-4E, so nothing new really how it performs at toptier tho, it's good enough but no PD means that sometimes you won't even be able to get a single radar missile off and it will be deadweight the entire match. That's about it

F-8E is the best plane in the game for its BR

What why, AIM-9Ls are quite a step up from any IR missiles in game. Imagine the R-24T but with muuuch higher flare resistance and even higher G limit. What the F-4J could get is the AIM-9H, which is similar to the AIM-9G but with better tracking rate but overal same agility and range I think.

@@Wotplaya4 But the Aim-9L is actually in the game already on the AH-1Z I believe and it came out 2 years before the Aim-9P was exported, which is already on the EJ's.

@@ACEOFB7R ye but that's on a helicopter, not an aircraft. Other than that, it's not correctly modelled either. Because it's on a helicopter and very niche, I guess Gaijin just modified an existing missile a bit and called it a day, for balance reasons too I suppose. Just like the AIM-7E and R-23s were incorrect before and only recently got corrected (because the meta shifted to stronger radar missiles). The AIM-9L should be a 40G missile, tho atm it's 30G I believe, can't really check it anymore as hovering over modules weapons don't show stats anymore (nice job Gaijin).

@@Wotplaya4 Since the helicopter grind is beyond useless, I haven't been able to try it yet. If you go to secondary weapons you can now see HALF of the stats of weapons. No surprise the 7.62 pods next to the Aim-9L have no stats other than ammo count. Your right tho, it has a 30G limit and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't just an Aim-9G in disguise (with slight modification). The L sure would be nice to have though, considering the meta and if the F-4J handles like the E, I believe it'd switch how the F-4 has been used uptil now (sort of).
