Good Enough To Fight The Best: F-4J Phantom II (War Thunder) 

You do need to press the lock button with the HMD once you point it towards the enemy, it doesn't automatically lock it and it works pretty damn well

I always tought the Aim7E2s were better than 7Fs and i used the 7E2s for everything and thats why i suffered so much

The F-4J still has one last possible modification up its sleeve and that's the F-4S upgrade. I say modification because it for all intents and purposes would just become an F-4J with wing slats similar to the F-4E/F. This could and would be better implemented as an unlockable module rather than a whole new aircraft, likely making the F-4J/S one of the best Phantoms in the game.

I really hate how the counter measures have that stupid little trap door, it would be cool if it opened and closed but it just looks kinda dumb open all the time.

F-4J my beloved, still the best for getting RP for me, great bomb load and the HMD makes the IR and SARH missiles pretty good. Nice vid man, keep it up :)

You can see the Sparrows do not fair well when targeting someone close to the ground. You can conistantly dodge them simply by flying low.

When fighting the mig29 as someone who has it, it is extremely simple to notch so if you find yourself even at 3km just bank 45 degrees and drop some chaff he won’t be able to flock you even with the HMD in time

Regarding the F-14's radar, it slaps, I fly the F-14 in DCS it has some great look down shoot down capabilities, since you can change the elevation bands the radar looks in easily

Sparrows actually don't have any kind of inertial nav, they just keep tracking like all sarhs until the green box COMPLETELY disappears from screen. Irl I believe 7Fs and 7Ms should have some sort of inertial 'memory', atleast a la the R-24Rs currently ingame. AIM-7Ps i believe are the ones to introduce LOAL capability though

with the current updates, I feel as if the F-4J is only good against its constituents who are not paying attention as it gets clapped by AIM-7M's and R-27ER's. I almost have it spaded but it seems its just fighting airframes that are far more capable than itself. (MiG-29, F-16, F-14)

The next BR changes got posted. Slight buff for the F-4J, with the F-14 at 11.7 and 12.0 for the MiG-29/F-16. 10.3 games will have the F-4J and MiG-23 as the best planes now, no more F-14’s there. Just have to watch out for those sneaky tornadoes.

I looked about and can't find anything about inertial guidance after loss of lock but TIL that the aim-7m is a sparrow with the seeker of a skyflash which is pretty cool, and the Italians had a skyflash-alike called an 'aspire'(I think) which would be cool to see in game.. anyways the missile proxy fuse probably detonates when it gets close enough to the target and if they don't manoeuvre enough after you lose lock then the missile will still be on course to get a hit if you only lose lock a second or two before impact

The camo in the first full match is the default one for the f-4S

I've noticed the f-16s and f14s seem to struggle using aim7s when the target is very close to the ground. I see that it miscalculates targets to be much closer to the ground than they are, and most of the time the aim7s usually hit the ground.

Now going up is impossible as it's literally 90% uptiers and there are f16's and f14s that will just hit you across the map. The F4j is feeling absolutely useless for me.

Playing it only 3 days and all i can say is that its super op for an 11.3 br plane, the radar is just so op, that you so easily can lock on planes that fly near ground and from behind, the only downgrade is that you cant dodge fight, but it doesnt matter when you have op missiles

Give the f4e a shot, I’ve been playing it a lot and have been getting 3-5 kill games with it; not a bad dog fighter either

I just got the sparrows in this plane. Whenever I get a good radar lock they just shoot strait up. Like is this a bug?

Yea, when I tried the HMD on the F-4J, I couldn’t lock anyone up even if my life depended on it. At the least, the 9G’s still work with the HMD, though I wish I could use the 9H on it, but one can only hope, right?

The British F-4J is basically identical to the American one, except it gets no HMD and Skyflashes instead of the 7F.

F-14 had the best radar at it's time so it's no surprise that it's really powerful, felt like they spec'd all their points into radars and sparrow flinging. Though I don't know how the F-4J's and F-16's radars compare.

With the Tomcat being pushed up and the rise of Rank VII Prems the F-4J will be less oppressed.

I don't know.. I just can't fly normally on this thing: too heavy, poor maneuverability at low altitudes and questionable missiles. Mig 21-23 are more competent fighter jets for me

This plane is not bad, but why would anyone use it over the F14? The only reason I'd use it is because I have a bug setup with 5 aim7s and 4 aim9gs

95% of the time you are in an up tier... and in those matches you are AIM 54 bait. I went through 700k SL the other day working on unlocking the F14A and didn't even dent it. I had one down tier that went rather well. but the other games were all up tier and out of those I got one drone and one player. the radar is absolute garbage comparatively. loses lock all the time and that's when you get lock in the first place. and the 11.7-12.0 planes seem harder to get locked onto in the first place. F4J is in a really weird place... to strong in a down tier, and to weak in an up tier.

How to f4j stock with only a trash ir amm that do nothing . Trash game that only put 11.0 russian downtier

Both of these radars the f14 and f4j and even the f16 the radars are just powerful they aren't balanced the only way to avoid the missle is to knotch and its proof in the video you just show on the su22 that it doesn't work and if these planes launch a missle you die anyways so it's all luck basically and that's not how it should be it removes all skill base. So they need to nerf these radars and allow the knotch to work the f14 shouldn't be able to launch a missle at 15km out and ping you half way across the map or any of these American planes because the russian planes don't do this what so ever what so ever at all!! I'm so sick of air rb currently because all the time grinding to the mig29 just to barely get above 1 kill a game a die to f16 every time is becoming annoying and I despise the American planes currently because of the spammed out nature if I want a 100 percent Sim game I'll play DCS not a simarcade game like war thunder
