This is my 2024 movie review of Longlegs, the newest horror movie that premiered this weekend. Leave your Longlegs reviews and reactions down below. Today, I tell you why this is not what I expected.
FBI Agent Lee Harker is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer. As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family. This stars Maika Monroe, Alicia Witt, Nicolas Cage, Blair Underwood, and is directed by Oz Perkins.

Spoiler questions about things being left open. Why did she write on and hide the evidence of the letter Longlegs left her? Why didn’t she involve the FBI or local cops at all on the third act? Why did she choose to drive to her partners house rather than trying to prevent what was going to happen before she drove to his house? They really couldn’t piece together murders that were so similar? Was her mother capable of living a life and taking care of herself? How has no one ever called the cops on Longlegs or him being on a watch list with how off kilter and weird looking he was? Why didn’t the gun work at the end? What possible fate did the 2 at the end ultimately have?
@hotakaofficial
@hotakaofficial 23 дня назад
For the last question, I think it's just an ambiguous ending, possibly signifying that the beast with seven heads and ten horns (which I believe to be a metaphor for how there is evil always happening and that Longlegs was just one of many humanly satanic/evil manifestations) and that just because she stopped one of the murders, she won't be able to stop all of them. And for the gun, I think it's supernatural intervention from Satan which prevented her from shooting the doll/the orb. I also think that she doesn't bother warning Agent Carter after the interaction with her mother is because his voice on the phone sounded distorted/demonic so she tried to get to them ASAP (to probably try and prevent the killings). Also, they did piece together the murders because of Longlegs' notes and She didn't involve the FBI in the third act because she went to her mother's house right after the interrogation to try and gain information on the potential accomplice, where Agent Browning is killed and her mother destroys her doll. Immediately after this however, she gets the call from Agent Carter so she leaves. And I'm not sure about the question about why no one reported Longlegs, but people seemed to find him weird (Like the girl in the hardware store). I assumed that he just stayed in the basement for the most part. These are all my theories/opinions tho!
@jimyarbrough9935
@jimyarbrough9935 20 дней назад
Lot of what you're bringing up is explained near the end when her mother explains that long leggs was controlling her memories. If you noticed the doll he created the mother explains that " he put some of himself in it" this means he has been controlling her for the last twenty years, for example the family at the end killing themselves.

It wasn't ''A Scariest film of the Decade'', But it was definitely an interesting watch, I would definitely recommend it to people who are more into crime/thriller genre, because this is definitely not a horror film. It has horror elements but it wasn't a full blown horror movie from start to finish. There was some unsettling and creepy parts but I never felt truly scared. Nic Cage and Maika Monroe were both great, the actress who plays Lee's mother in the film was fantastic, she was absolutely creepy. But it definitely a type of movie that you need to see twice, it demands that. So I am definitely going to be seeing again but this time alone at home. I just came out of the screening couple of minutes ago, so the movie is very fresh in my mind but I just... I don't know, I need to sit with this movie for a bit and think how I feel about it, because there were stuff I really, really liked and then there were some other stuff that I would put under a question mark. That's why I think it necessary to see it twice. I can say that I think this film should have been either longer or a mini-series, a 1 hour 40 minute runtime is not enough to tell such a story I feel like, there is quite a lot that is left to viewer's imagination, a very ambiguous ending. I don't hate the ending but I do wish we got a conclusion, it felt like we will be getting Longlegs 2 or something... but either way, I can't decide fully on how I feel about this film, I will say I did like it more than I did not like it, but I don't want to go in the details because I am not 100% sure if even the things I did not like I truly don't like you know? But it definitely was an experience that I overall enjoyed but at the same let down by few things, I did feel like it needed to be longer at the very least and the jumpscares were weak... absolutely weak to me. But I will still recommend for anybody to go check it out for yourself, especially like I said before if you are fan of these type of movies (Silence of the Lambs, Seven or Zodiac) then this could be a good time for you. I will say this, this film is definitely also not on par with Silence of the Lambs or Seven in terms of filmmaking, storytelling and etc etc... It definitely pays homage to those films but at the same time brings an interesting unique twist to the movie which I did really like. So yeah, go check it out. I feel like this movie is going to be very divisive, some people will love it some people will like it and some will straight out hate it, it definitely a more of A24 type of horror/thriller flick. Also, Nic Cage's performance was definitely something... I did not know how to approach his character... but eventually he did get under my skin but I can see some people straight out laugh at this character because of how ridiculous he is in this. Even I smiled couple of times because Nic Cage was having a lot of fun in this one, oh my oh my... He was chewing every scene, the interrogation scene definitely is going to be a memorable scene from the movie. Gosh, I went on a huge rant.. I need to chill, but at the moment it very hard for me to rate this, I need to wait a bit until I can truly comprehend what I just saw. Also cinematography and sound design is chef's kiss.

After having seen the movie, it left me with a whole lot of questions: DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT! 1. As soon as Longlegs left her the envelope in her home, why didn't she immediately call the cops? 2. Longlegs lived in their basement for years? Why didn't the mother escape with her child (at some point, after agreeing to help him) and get him arrested? 3. Why did the mother continue with the killings? 4. How did they know when these girls' birthdays were? 5. How did the police know when/where to pick up Longlegs at that particular bus stop? 6. After picking him up, wouldn't they have tried to find out where he'd been living this entire time, so as to investigate it? 7. At the end of the movie, she clearly knew that the husband was going into the kitchen to kill the wife. Why didn't she try to stop him beforehand? 8. WHAT THE FUCK WERE THE METAL BALLS IN THE DOLL HEADS? Explaining away everything with, "Oh it's just supernatural stuff," feels lazy.

I've only seen it once in theaters, so excuse me if I misremembered anything or if I missed any supporting evidence that would bolster the following: 1. The Message said something along 'if you take this to the cops, i will kill your mother', which she had no memory or her families involvement at the time. Maybe she thought it could have been an inside job, or a corrupt informant from the FBI. 2 & 3. The Mother knew the devil was involved, and she continued to do their bidding to give her daughter a life. it was a part of her monologue 5-10 mins before credits rolled. 4. If 'they' means FBI, I don't see that as a problem. But you probably meant Longlegs, and I agree to the point where we have no idea b/c the movie didn't show much of any of LL's operations outside of making dolls. It Could be similar to how Lee described her 'pre-cognition' as "something tapping her on the shoulder and telling her where to look". 5. I agree they skipped a bit too much time and space. But we do know the FBI set up an APB using the picture child Lee took as a child and found in her room. It feels like a line saying 'A man fitting the description was seen buying a bus ticket out of town, we are picking them up' was cut, but idk. 6. We see the aftermath of the first interrogation, but it turned into 25 mins of LL singing Happy Birthday to Lee. When they try again with Lee herself, LL smashed his own face in. we also only hear of the physical searching only turned up LL's letters. Not like he had a Driver's License that has Lee's Mother's Basement as his home address on it. 7. Agreed, she was shown trying to protect the little girl, watch her mother, and shoot the doll. but not of that is necessarily mutual exclusive which trying to stop Agent Carter from killing his wife. I think it could have been more effective if she did (or try to) stop Carter, and something else happened, such as: the wife takes her own life anyway, the devil in the doll takes a more active role, the mother makes a move earlier, idk the scene as is doesn't sit well as is imo. 8. It was some piece of the devil, and it called out to take possession. the coroner that cut it opened felt like it was calling out about his ex-wife, but it probably has a strength tangible hold on the victims family, maybe it is amplified but the doll being a voodoo-like connection of the family daughter. The evidence of a direct connection was shown twice. Carrie Ann Camera 'wakes up' out of her catatonic state as soon as the doll is removed and opened. And Lee passes out and need to recover from her doll head ball being shot and exploded. I know I had to use 'maybe' and 'Could' a lot, and if the ambiguity ruins the movie for you, that is okay because of subjectivity and art, yada yada. I think Dan Murrell's review point it best: 'The ending dropped it a bit, but not enough to tank the whole movie.' and that is how I feel about point #7, hurts the overall movie, but doesn't tank it for me. As for the Supernatural stuff, I disagree because the Devil is shown as an acting force and watching over characters the whole movie. The Veiled Shadow in the car from scene one. the looming and disappearing shadowed figure shown outside of Lee's House and the FBI library, The goat-horned Shadow behind Child Lee. The red-eyed entity scene in the Camera Family was my personal favorite: it showed the veiled figure with its deep red eyes, the girl uncovers the veil, and it cuts back to the doll. The language of editing telling us that the devil has manifested into the doll, and with the rest of the context, it Trojan Horsed its way into these families' houses.

saw it yesterday. ima give ya a real casual but like serious movie watcher overview/disccusion/review. so i knew something up early cause the mom kept saying you gotta do your prayers. so when the mom was revealed to be involved i wasnt surprised at all. you could also tell there was just something paranormal with lee and how she had a connection with just evil since in the beginning she was able to have a random hunch with where the murder was when her first partner was killed. so i just kinda knew her awkwardness was just tied to satan. (easy to assume its gonna be a satanic movie when you watch the trailers and see a black figure with horns) i thought blair underwood did a really good job at acting. he was a good character to balance out her weirdness. in terms of the story i agree that the movie was a slow burn and it needed more time. im jacking it needed like a extra 30mins. its hard to remove some of the movie scenes because it kinda is necessary with how the pacing is but i did find myself a little bored from time to time. nicholas cages acting was actually pretty good but i was never deeply disturbed or bothered by his character. to be honest nothing about this movie was giving "horror". it was a thriller to me more then anything and didnt ever leave me scared. i also brought a scaredy cat to the movie to watch with me (yes it was on purpose. yes she had no idea what this movie was. and yes i did it so i could laugh at her being scared.) but she never really got scared so i knew i wasnt really bugging on that. the heart rate trailer made it seem like longlegs was suppose to look terrifying when he probably just looked like caitlyn jenner with bed hair. i was pretty disappointed on his visual look. i also feel like we didnt get enough answers on the satanic side of the cult. he said there was more members or alluded to what was happening being bigger then him and it not just being satan. so i was just hoping we woulda got more info on that. the ending was a little underwhelming too. i think its a little clear that when the mom shot lees doll head off that she severed the tie with her and satan since you seen the black smoke come out of lees head as she passed out. i just wish the movie would have ended with like lee now taking over longlegs place. like almost as if she was hand picked and nurtured to be his replacement. yes it makes the moms story pointless by having all what she has done to protect lee be for nothing but its a horror movie like comeon we gotta add a sense of despair. everything just ending so like "peacefully" with no real sense of like danger or fear just made me feel like it was all to easy and not enough significance to what was at stake with what was going on plot wise. i did love the careful planning of the lore for longlegs timing on kills but other then that the movie is like a solid 6.8. like its ok. im not gonna say its good. that would be like a 7/10 but its close. its just ok and could be better. but this was my first neon movie and they have my attention now. overall i think the movie is good for the horror genre currently and hope we get some more soon.

Stacy Keibler has some really nice long legs; I’m glad this movie is more of a crime thriller than an actual horror movie; Silence of the Lambs is one of my favorite movies so this is right up my alley.

I thought it was good but it definitely left me a bit dissatisfied with the story devolving into a supernatural horror. I was super invested in the crime and wanted a satisfying explanation to them and how they were being done, but when the story just explains it with supernatural stuff without explicitly marketing it as a supernatural horror, it just leaves me disappointed. Everything else about the movie was great including the atmosphere, just wanted something different from the story. 8/10

I THINK LONGLEGS IS LEE'S FATHER!!! i found it strange that her father was not mentioned the whole movie. the father could have left them early on in lee's life then returned with that plastic surgery look which could explain y they thought he was a stranger. it could be a play on word association with the spider daddy lonlegs. otherwise y name the killer that random word. anyone else agree? any other evidence? i have not heard this theory yet

This movie is pure frustration. It COULD have been really good but, due to lazy writing and poor casting I simply can't make peace with it. It was a beautifully shot and well directed take on the serial killer "thriller" but, Nicholas Cage and Maika Monroe are just distracting.

I know I am the minority but I thought this overhyped. How this can even be compared to Silence Of The Lambs or Seven is beyond me. From that era I would say The Sixth Sense. It's just a slow burn with a supernatural twist. Had I gone to the theatre with no expectations I would have thought it "ok" & maybe a 6.5 max but as for the scariest film of the decade !!!!!!!!!!!

The marketing team de$erves a massive raise. That said, the movie was a HUGE letdown. It was not disturbing or terrifying as most people are saying. Maika was great, but Nic Cage was distracting and not very convincing. The movie was very visual, I'll give it that, but the narrative was M.I.A. (like with all of Oz Perkins films) and the "twist" was silly. I'll give them points for doing something new(ish), but that's it. Overall, a crystal clear misfire.

I think people always forget that when a trailer displays “the scariest (or the most of any genre) movie of the year (or decade)”…it’s just some critics or a handful of peoples opinion. So don’t hold the movie accountable if it isn’t the scariest movie ever. As an example, I know people that think Annabelle (the first movie) is the scariest movie they’ve seen. I don’t agree with that. To me that movie is shit. But I can respect their opinion. With that said, this movie to me isn’t scary…..I usually never get scared at the theater, but it is unsettling. That is not an easy feat. For a movie to go consistently unsettling..that just doesn’t happen often. Oh and lastly, this is just a bit of criticism, but Denis Villeneuve is not all that. His best film hands down is Arrival but that’s it.
