Before he was arrested on murder charges, Tony Todt was a man deep in debt and in trouble with the law. A federal health care fraud investigation into his physical therapy practices found a brazen false claims scheme. Patients and employees of Tony recall a visit from the FBI to Tony's offices and the unceremonious end of Family Physical Therapy, with Tony fleeing to Florida.
Looking for the Todt Family is a true crime podcast from the newsroom at The Day in New London, CT, investigating the Todt family murders. How did Tony Todt, a well-known family man, wind up accused of murdering his wife Megan, their three children Alek, Tyler and Zoe, and the family dog Breezy, and living with their bodies for weeks?

A Narcissist wears a mask. You ALWAYS get people who will say "he was such a nice guy" - "he was a fabulous neighbour". "he was so helpful". etc etc. Didn't they say that about Scott Peterson??? This is a common theme with Narcissists, always the great guy, but the mask comes off at home. I suspect Megan was going to leave him!! The combination of the fraud, the debt and losing the home, plus possible marriage issues - pushed him over the edge!

I agree that Megan was fed up with the lies and looking for a way out. These things take time. And planning. And money. That POS knew the hammer was coming down and he chose to extinguish the precious lives of his entire family, rather than have to face them w/the truth, Narcissists dont respond well when backed into a corner and its always those closest the N will punish for his own failures, for they share the knowledge of his true identity and he won't risk witnesses to his crumbling facade. It is mind numbing how the N ALWAYS treats strangers, neighbors and co-workers better than his own family, whom he claimed to love. There's a special place in Hell for this animal. Unfortunately, Hell isn't near hot enough. '

I know I’m 9 months late replying to your comment but to answer your question (which is a good question) - the defense was supposed to call one other witness - Dr. Scolly-Danziger and wound up calling no one except Tony himself - and that was Tony’s idea. The defense was in a very difficult position. Tony’s original public defender died and his case was then picked up by the three attorney’s people saw at his table. The old man was Robert Wesley - the guy who runs the entire PD’s office for Osceola and Orange County. Besides, Tony freaking confessed and changed his story mid-trial. Even the most high priced Kardashian would have trouble defending that.

I don't think Tony was an abusive guy. I think he thought his family was going to be done if he's now getting arrested and losing his license. Probably a control freak who really thought he's sending his family to heaven and that without the money he was bringing in they're now screwed. Once the fbi agent came by, the house of cards collapsed. So messed up to make that choice. And then wimps out on killing himself. Sickening

I think he wasn’t always an abusive guy, but like you said when the house of cards began to crumble I’m sure Megan started questioning him and criticizing him and that’s when his narcissistic rage kicked in. So many of these people think they’ll get a ton of sympathy because their family was wiped out. They are so arrogant they actually believe they are smarter than everyone else and people will just believe them because they are “such a great guy”. None of these patients who thought he was “so great” weren’t called upon for a character reference during the trial- I mean it’s a good thing; he’s a louse after all. Maybe they wanted to separate themselves after hearing the details of the crime & didn’t want to touch it with a 10 foot pole. I know I wouldn’t! Can’t believe he’s blame his wife when it’s SO OBVIOUS he did the crime 100%...he should be ashamed of himself. Every opportunity he’s had to talk it’s ALWAYS been about him. Not once has he cried with snot saying how much he loves his family with believable gusto. May he rot. He’ll hang himself in jail- after he writes his version of his “tell all book” Barf. He just can’t keep his mouth shut. A true pathetic narcissist who plays the ‘poor me’. The trial was gold his academy award performance was pathetic. How could he have EVER thought that was gna fly? She’s now saying that she doesn’t think he got a fair trial because the prosecutor interrupted him too much during his testimony. Of all the episodes in the podcast, this one was the worst for me. It’s clear that Tony was a good technical PT. But, just like any good technical person, they tend to be NOT so good at bureaucracy. We live in a nation of laws and procedure. People may not like it but it what makes things work, overall. Tony clearly needed help and guidance. A LOT of it. But, like any true narcissist, he refused to ask for help and just winged it by cooking books and billing the “big bad gubbermint” and the “big bad insurance company” to pay for his stuff. If he played by the rules, he probably wouldn’t be able to swing his lifestyle - the treadmill pool, the second home in Celebration, the rental home in Celebration, the CT home… dude had quite the lifestyle and needed Medicaid/Medicare (taxpayers) and Cigna to pay for it all. Then it came crashing down. He couldn’t even pay his employees. This episode explains a lot. He could have been somebody but instead he became a family anhillator.

He tried to act so confused by it on the stand as if he’d never tried to describe it before. “It was a bluish…purplish….grapish….I dunno…..I guess you wanna call it a pudding pie?” Please! If this story were true you wouldn’t be trying so hard to act confused about the pie and you would’ve discussed it with so many people like your lawyers, cops, family, that you’d have a pretty scripted description of it by now. The fact that he was trying so hard to come off as totally confused about the pie tells me that’s exactly where the benedryl was that the kids took and he knew it. Remember how he said that it was his job to clean the kitchen? Then the prosecutor asked him if he cleaned the kitchen and he said no, there weren’t any dishes left out because they didn’t cook that night but then he talked about the dirty pie dishes on the table that still had remnants of pie on them. Just little things like that where he contracted himself around the pie.

You can be a doctor and a physical therapists but most have masters degree. P T assessments are called a "functional diagnosis" and are a PT consultation utilized with / by the medical doctor s. PTs monitor progress and pain. The written accessments the patient fills out ask questions to narrow down and weed out people who psychologically manifest or even try to defraud. But the info the PT has and gathers help train the patient stretches and exercises to help with pain. They also help amputies help themselves at home etc. Adjust . Recover. Access train. The PT is a great option for coping for millions of patients. However I see Tony as a manipulative man who " gaslights" for his own glory. A hero above all others. Karen Morente
