Thinking about it, in this scene and the scene from the very first episode with her in, she really isn't that unpleasant to Fleabag, and even seems genuinely concerned when she asks if Fleabag is okay. These are the only two scenes in the show before Fleabag steals the statue, so a big part of her attitude towards Fleabag is probably to do with that stolen statue. Plus in the last episode she seems genuinely kind of touched when Fleabag returns the statue and admits she stole it. It's kind of sad in a way; the mother was possibly the only real friend that Godmother had, and muscling her way into her family after she died is probably her weird, unpleasant way of trying to deal with the grief; but of course Fleabag is very similar to her mother and frequently acts out to make it clear that Godmother would never replace her mother. Nothing excuses the way Godmother behaves, but there is something pathetically pitiful about her if you assume that her behaviour and attitude is all an unhealthy response to her own pent-up grief.

@@robertwinslade3104 I'm late to this, but I think you can consider the godmother's relationship to Claire as what it would have been like if Fleabag were not so aggressively disdainful. Though the godmother is not obviously passive aggressive with Claire, she still can be unpleasant (like the time she implied that she thought Clare was too old for children).

Godmutha's compliment nevertheless strikes me as having a wee accusatory element to it.

@@illogical001 yeah, she's still not pleasant, but she also doesn't seem nearly as bad as she is throughout the rest of the show 😅

It's the first time I found out a comment from a known person... Kinda surprising! And Claire being Claire.

I dont know if shes a gold digger or a wuss digger. The father is a perfect partner for a narcissistic person like her because he's sort of a pushover. Another man would have told the Godmother to go screw herself for treating his daughter like that ( The sexhibition episode)

I got recommended this video, and I had to learn from this comment 6 months later in the year 2020 that there won't be a season 3 of Fleabag......

Perhaps that is the idea. Drag it too long and it turns into a K-drama with amnesia and cancer and long lost son appeared after 20 years.

Phoebe waller bridge said she didnt have a good idea for a third season so she didnt want tomdrag it out and ruin the show's good name. I actually really admire that, far too many great shows drag themselves out and ruin their good name

omg you might be right. she remembers feeling insecure about looking too well for her mother's funeral and people even noticed. this is exactly how we exaggerate things in our minds. i love how genius the writing is but in a very settle and original way!

For more context: Throughout the whole show, she's/Fleabag is considered the ugly sibling, but this is one of those moments where It's reversed, and she's the beautiful person in the scenario.

I don’t think so. You will notice that Fleabag doesn’t break the fourth wall when Boo is there so I guess this was a memory.

It's an interesting take, but she really did seem like she *didn't* want to be seen looking lively and pretty for a morbid situation, so it's funny seeing people temporarily stop their grievances to go "my GOD you look gorgeous" 😂

It's not that she breaks the fourth wall, but it's how she so brilliantly incorporates it into the character development of the character

@@RK-ep8qy Well, that's an interesting point. But I can laugh at a good line or situation in any style of movie. I find myself laughing more at lines in "The Good Fight" than your typical sitcom, which I usually avoid like the plague; although I do like The Good Place and Single Parents...Brad Garrett cracks me up.
