Relationships are hard. No matter how much we like, respect, or love someone, conflict seems inevitable.
But even as we fight and disagree, we can also learn the skills we need to resolve our problems. For over two decades, Shawn McBride has helped thousands of couples do the work to strengthen their relationships. And he has tons of practical advice.
Shawn sat down with me to discuss the three biggest problems couples face, why I'm a huge fan of his Instagram, and how love can keep relationships afloat, but it's often not enough.
This...is A Bit of Optimism.

I agree with Shawn 100%. My husband and I have learned the Heavenly Blessings that have and continue to come as he gives me the love, respect, communication, understanding, validation and so on, that I need. I have joy in expressing and admiring his many wonderful talents, characteristics, wisdom, communication skills, nuturing and loving nature and so on. In more words, we are each other's biggest cheerleaders, best friends, trustworthy, kind and honest. Excellent video!

Simon my absolute favorite part of your podcast is when you bring out the common thread that ties your guest's favorite childhood memory and their favourite accomplishment in their area of work. Your ability to tease it apart and find that bottomline is SO cool. This guest said "Simon you are so wise"!! I echo that to you... Simon you are SO wise!!

Saying sorry is such a "basic" thing but this talk made me realise just how much I got worse in it since the time I was a kid. And I realised my problem for apologising was the acceptance that I just did what I did, the fact I just hurt someone I so deeply cared about and that it was my fault, that I thought I was in a right, but there is noone in the right or everyone in the right when it comes to fighting. Because I myself did not want to realise what I just did I was reluctant to apologise and became much more defendant of my actions instead of simply humbling myself down.

Simon this absolutely crushes me. That would you put a clip like this out there is so confusing to me. This man is saying “sorry you didn’t know you were to blame that your spouse cheated.” Coming from someone who devoted so much time and energy to making my spouse feel special only to be discarded and undervalued sets me back years. I am crushed that you would air this without talking about the other side. Sometimes cheaters are cheaters.

I'm sorry this happened to you. You should watch it again. The argument is much more complex than that. He roots it deep in childhood trauma, that you, as a spouse, simply cannot solve alone if your partner doesnt work too.

I often hear this phrase that woman want to talk it is incorrect in my case maybe I am weird. I like to be silent I feel people’s energy and that is sufficient for me. I can be with my loved ones and we would not be talking just drinking coffee baking it doesn’t always entail communication. We just spend time together and enjoy each other’s company. I think it also had to do what astrological sign you were born under.

54 comments on this channel says otherwise. Seems like you want to talk a lot but you hate the stereotypes. Gender is just a construct, fighting against it is just as damning to your sense of self as fighting for it.

I wish that was the case but we all reflect based on our experiences.

Isn't the "women want to talk" a generalisation? A woman might want to talk two hours, they might want to talk less, they might not want to talk, they might want their _partner_ to talk (whatever their partner's gender). The lesson that I saw here was that each party needs to understand the other person's needs and accommodate them, rather than try to "fix" them so they coincide with own needs.

We started a relationship with me cheating on my ex partner from an abusive relationship. I have no clue how to make it up to her, how to show how much i regret, and how much i am into her.😢

instead of apologizing, my wife tells me "I know I know, its always my fault." its infuriating. rarely there is a real apology. if there is one, its usually, "well sorry!" coupled with an excuse

John Gray: "Estrogen makes women emotional, and during stress the female brain notices the problems 10 times more...she feels an urgency to alarm everybody about it. Testoserone makes men much more calm and focused on tasks, therefore hormone testosterone is about problem-solving." Women need probably doing a yoga or Qi-gong to feel grounded so she will not disturb the amn when focusing on his jobs. I was wondering "the alarm state" of mind" probably comes from ancient times when woman tried to keep her new born baby safe and alive, and the brain was probably in the scarecity reaction of subconscious mind program, so she would alarm everybody, please help, my child has a flu, or some bacteria etc so maybe the estrogen hormone craeted such a chaotic state of mind over the generations, I wonder if its genetic thing. Other wise why would the estrogen create such chaos in her mind,10 times more during the stress situation, if its purpose wouldn´t be the alarm system of the mind...please come save the baby from the flu or some virus etc? And men are technical geniuses usually so they realise immediatelly what the baby needs, she knows it too in other ways, but she isnt as technical as men are, when it comes to crisis. So these two hormones probably have its purpose, but we should learn to manage it.

Both sexes have testosterone and estrogen. They're not gendered hormones, they're just hormones.
