It's crazy to think that's its already been nearly 10 years since Newer Otis Series 2 and 4 aka "Series 7" first came out. I can remember back when I first joined this community and this model of elevator wasn't very common yet and everyone (Myself included) was so excited to ride one of these for the first time and was looking forward to their chance of getting to ride their first "Series 7s" and we would literally FOAM over these like they were the coolest thing ever, and we all originally referred to these new Otis elevators as having "Series 7" fixtures only to later find out that wasn't even the real name!
Fast forward to now, these new "Next Generation" Otis Elevators are LITERALLY EVERYWHERE (Basically EVERY brand new or newly expanded Hotel in Orlando and even Tampa has these now), me and basically everyone in the community has grown tired of seeing this model of elevator, and it's crazy to think it's now already been nearly 10 years since this model first came out and since this community (again, myself included...) went crazy over these....
The elevators in this video are some of the VERY FIRST "Series 7s" ever installed (Late 2012-Early 2013) as evidenced by the fact these have Black Phone Brailles like what you see on Series 5 as opposed to Orange and Red Phone brailles installs from Later 2013 and so on have, and you may be wondering.... How are they holding up nearly 10 years later!?!
And unfortunately, my answer is not very well.... The button panels feel SUPER CHEAP and are FALLING APART, these elevators make AWFUL screeching and creaking noises while moving and they SOUND like they're gonna fall apart too!!! Not to mention the LCD Screens and LEDs in the buttons aren't holding up too well either, and all of this is very unfortunate as these are the characteristics I'd normally use to describe a KONE, not a nearly 10 year old Otis. Which is sad, because up until just 20 years ago, Otis Elevators were EASILY the best elevators money could buy, and the fact that they are no longer like this anymore for the sake of competition from other brands and corporate greed is unfortunate.....
Hopefully there are other "Series 7" installs from this time period aren't aging as poorly as these are, but given how cheap these feel and are compared to what Otis has made in the past it, it really wouldn't shock me.
I hope you guys all enjoy the video, and let me know what you think about these elevators as well as Newer Otises as a whole in the comments below.
Installed in Early 2013.
