I broke mine trying to take it back out when it didn't seem to sit quite right. So since my original wasn't too bad, I just reused it and flipped the brass over so any wear was on the outside. Next one I do, I will try to get the original. I saw a video where that plastic just cage just tore up, so I am a little concerned with this anyway. But good video.
I found it on eBay - $325. dollars. I have a GearVendors box for my 67' Ford pickup. GV says to use a 4.11 rear-end gear, so I bought a new one. After thinking about it, I thought...this is not a race truck your building on the street." "It's about 550-600 hp." "The lower ratio planetary would give me the out of the hole gear." "Maybe I should have bought a 3.90 gear instead, and I'd have even more cruising gear." What say you about this.
I have never own a gear vendors box , so I don't know how high the overdrive is. It all depends on what you want, as far as driveability, vs launching power. Also with that much horse power, if you run street tires, I am sure its going to spin a lot when taking off hard regardless of what the lower gear ratio is like.
