I actually think Lu Sierra's walk felt more 80s, similar to how Iman would walk the runway. She would take her time to demonstrate the clothes, giving the luxury piece the full undivided attention it deserves. Naomi's walk was more contemporary, in tune with the 90s, which I always considered the starting point of modern-day modeling with the rise of the supermodels. By the 90s, modeling became more than just an artform, but a business at this point, where runway shows would be bigger, more grandiose, and faster in displaying outfits. Models would walk at a faster pace, to change from outfit to outfit, and would not have as much freedom of expressing themselves enjoying the clothes by the mid 90s, when the heroin chic trend took over. The number of models per show were also greater than those in the 80s. It's even worse now. Back then you would have 15 to 20 girls doing the runway shows, now its like 60 to 80 girls doing it all, without a single outfit change. It's nice to be inclusive, giving others a chance, but the selectiveness of past eras definitely sold on that fantasy that fashion models were an elite group that no one could easily attain. For me, the perfect balance was indeed in the early 90s, when the personalities and glamour the 80s met the cool and edginess of the 90s.

YES! the 90's were much more exciting to watch because they didn't have too many models and they change clothes to show variety whereas today you don't see any outfit change. I love the 90's the Supermodels have their own signature walk and they do that full turn at the end of the runway in which you don't see today.
....LU....is from the old school more technical way of presenting a fine garment....the glide is mesmerizing...perfect and poised....whereas Naomi presents a more dynamic stealthy catlike walk ...full of curves that move the lines of the garment that is more focused on drama and showmanship...she refined her hands later in her career....which she was correct in doing...i enjoy both ladies...but i grew up....watching....LU....NAOMI SIMS....KATOUCHA NIANE...and IMAN...so that exquisite presentation....resonates more with me...particularly when they walk ....haute couture....
...LU....is THAT CHICK....quiet as it's kept...she is probably old enough to be Naomi's jazzier aunt..but as you can see by this video...she still has the bloom of youth in her presentation...actually this is not ...pageant...this is OLD SCHOOL RUNWAY when you saw a graceful elegant woman of indeterminate age bring you the technical presentation of a garment where you actually can SEE THE GARMENT...the DETAILS...the way the fabric drapes and moves...the MOOD of the garment....the FLAVOR of the garment...for people who KNOW WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING AT...and a woman that has the ability to present like this...and keep her figure...work into their 50s...making excellent money...young girls that can do this make excellent money doing it too......making the garment look lyrical...particularly HAUTE COUTURE...NAOMI got her start doing that...learning from people like LU....you should research model KATOUCHA NIANE...she was the main WOMAN....for YSL...when NC was under contract with YSL....when she was 16 years old and she has stated that she learned a lot from KATOUCHA....how to walk...take off a jacket.....how to turn a cape...how to walk an evening gown with a long train........when the supermodel era blasted off...runway shows became PERFORMANCE ART...like a BROADWAY SHOW...and that's basically when the shows were PR moves to sell perfumes and accessories...not clothes per se...and certainly not haute couture.....the MASTER of that....was GIANNI VERSACE...and that was for music videos...and the red carpet....and that's what contributes to the ...OOOH GIRL....WORK...SLAY....FIERCE...LIFE....OVAH....SERVING BODY....SERVING FACE....mentality that we celebrate today....with NAOMI...a TRAINED DANCER being THE QUEEN OF THAT..believe me there are plenty of videos where LU does all of that too...and there are more than a few videos of Naomi simply gliding in a beautiful contained presentation for the more refined designers of Paris when she 1st began her career....LU can walk on water when she feels like it...and when she was presented with the opportunity to coach models on top of walking too....she wisely went for it...and when the pageant culture called...she answered...smart woman...because she carved her own niche in that world and has upgraded it....more power to them both...they both upgraded the worlds they inhabit...to great success....and legacy...one of my fave things to see is LU...walking for BOB MACKIE...he calls her ...his STAR...in one of his many NUDE BEADED EVENING GOWNS that costs thousands of dollars that CHER will have him only SLIGHTLY modify style wise for her...and the video of LU...walking for GIORGIO ARMANI...in one of his more refined DINNER SUITS...while ROCK GOD ERIC CLAPTON....GAZES UPON HER...and HE....APPROVES...
@@CuirPhotodotNet I love katoucha! I watch a lot of the 90s shows and katoucha was there up til about 93 from what I’ve seen. A beautiful woman and a great example of the that mix of 80s supermodels rubbing shoulders with the “new” at the time supers in the early 90s like Naomi and also Beverly, Yasmeen, Helena, etc. I see what u mean tho. The 80s girls are very refined and graceful in their walks. The 90s girls added the dramatics which came along with the runway scene at the time. Another 80s model I love seeing on the early 90s stages was Anna Bayle. Amazing seeing her at shows like genny fall 91 and mizrahi fall 93 rubbing shoulders with the 90s supers of the day.
I appreciate Lu's ability to command the audience with her slower-paced, regal walk. But man when Naomi comes out, there's something about that walk that just jolts all your senses at once lol.
I mean, contrary to what many think, there is no “supermodel style walk.” Naomi’s is so iconic that it has this legacy and legendary status but every true super from the late 80s and 90s had a different walk. Like, VERY different. None of the Trinity walked the same. Cindy, Claudia, Tyra, Niki, Veronica, Tatjana, Yasmeen, Karen, Elaine, Shalom - extremely different ways of walking. The only general similarity is that during the peak of the SUPERMODEL they were allowed and ENCOURAGED to be expressive and more than just a mannequin. In the 80s you even so full-on theatrical walking sometimes with Jerry, Anna and Iman.
....what no one has ever really talked about is LINDA....having a great runway walk....everyone knew that NAOMI had the walk ...so everyone in the business watched her right off the bat....STEPHANIE....said she would HURRY and get in her next outfit ...then hurry to see NAOMI WALK....she said they ALL WATCHED HER LIKE A HAWK....and i could see that LINDA....really was great on the catwalk....SHALOM....is also extremely technical in her walks too....excellent on the runway....one of the best....
Lu has a mannered walk everything is planned and rehearsed. The hip swing is calculated not natural. She is very 80s kind of walker. Naomi is more free and fluid although I wish she shapes her hands. She forgets them. The wrists are loose and her hands flop around in an ungraceful way. But of course Naomi is a superior walker.
....Naomi herself has said that her hands looked ridiculous at this stage of her career...and she did change them...Lu...is classic runway where you saw the garment....the details...the lines ..the impact of the garment....more than the person wearing the garment...particularly haute couture...when women were actually looking to buy the garment...not just PR to sell accessories and perfumes and snatch magazine covers and pages....Lu...is poised...Naomi....is dynamic....
@@waterbearer4627 ....i love both ladies....in the 90s ....fashion shows became....SHOWS....so Naomi did her thing....when she began under contract under YSL at 16....she presented haute couture like LU....and she still did it when she walked for the masters of haute couture...then came......GIANNI VERSACE....LOL...and the rest is history...however i have seen her walk GV's more refined pieces in the classic way...and i smile....as for LU....she is the runway coach for Miss Universe and she does well with it...i have seen her cut up on the catwalk too usually for BOB MACKIE...he has literally said she REALLY belongs on BROADWAY....because she actually likes to cut up and camp it up......but she came into the industry walking haute couture...and she keeps up that tradition with the designers who still make those type of clothes...such as Oscar here...miss him...i have to say i like to see the range in LU...i like to see her vibe it up...and tear down the house....and i was really moved to see her walk a beautiful gown for ARMANI....and watch rock star ERIC CLAPTON look at her and smile at her ...and she gives him the slightest nod back...i live for that expression of range....and refinement....as for Naomi....she is the QUEEN of the catwalk...truly the BEST pound for pound......she is articulating what every woman would KILL to be on the catwalk....
@@CuirPhotodotNet great in depth info, yes I see the haute couture style of walk being a major influence in her runway catwalk. A new generation of walkers would make an impact every year. The early to mid 90s runway walk was the golden era imo. Editorial models were booked for shows. They were 'the stars' for Gianni, Karl and Valentino.

their walk give me： Lu is the good original queen who love her daughter Snow White dearly, while Naomi is that evil fierce step queen who come to took the throne from Lu and serve poison apple to Snow White.
I love Lu’s walk it was calculated, graceful and perfect. Naomi’s kinda forced and sloppy here but of course her runway performances after this (e.g. Versace ones) are absolutely better than this one.
