This song was written when her father died, but it speaks to loss of many kinds. I could never believe that Luba could not break out internationally her music has such raw passion.
Grew up to this music..she was a huge star in Montreal, all the girls at school dressed like her & fixed their hair the same way, good times..why must we get old 😢
I was in Burlington Vermont this past week, and was able to listen to CHOM out of Montreal and I heard this incredible song for the first time. I'd never heard of Luba before. Another Great Canadian Artist that didn't get the recognition she deserved in the States.
I first started liking Luba when I was a teen and 'No More Words' popped up on the radio, here and there, in 1990. I didn't come across this stunner for a few more years after that, as Luba just didn't get the airplay she deserved for her older songs, even in the Toronto area. What an amazing song this is!!!
Dont think its necessarily that, its just that being beside the usa and they being 10x the population its easy for canadian bands to get lost. For every 10 they put out we have 1
Luba should have become an international superstar , how this did not happen baffles me , way ahead of many today who are international stars . far better than many of the fake overproduced stars of today , she was a real talent and that voice is real not altered or enhanced by a computer it is the real deal .
I am from the US but very near to Canada. I have listened to LUBA since the 80's. So very talented. There are soo many talented singers in Canada as well. Thanks so much for all the great songs from all groups!!!!
Thanks for the reconnaissan. Good Canadian Artists have gone unappreciated and have been forgot. Which is a shame, Also a lot of songs that have made an impact on people or "life" have been one hit wonder or maybe 2 or 3 hit wonders .Which is a Blessing and a Curse. On behalf my self a fellow Canadian. Your Welcome! And thanks for the great singers and groups you were able to send our way. When the music still had feeling. When the words still had heart and soul {{°°°••{♡♡}••°°°}}
I’m from the US, maybe the reason I’ve never heard of this particular artist before. I like her voice though, her style is definitely something I would have listened to back in the 80’s. We have a lot of cool/talented female rocker’s from that period. 👍🏼😊🤟🏼
Luba was and is beautiful example of the raw talent in Canada. Justin Beiber was and still is only a fad..his music will die out and never remembered...but me and alot of lovely Canadians will forever remember true talent. Your a superstar LUBA!
As a kid I saw Luba at Massey Hall opening for Bryan Adams, the night he shot the video for “Somebody” in fact. She was excellent. This song was still all over the radio at that time, always felt like such a classic. A great memory.
For some reason this pm I just started singing this song. It's not something I've heard in years. It's weird how things happen...still love it. Her voice is 🤩
Her guitarist was my music teacher in high school from 1982-1986. Thanks for teaching me Stairway To Heaven Mr. Gudzio👊👩🎤Luba... you will always rock to me!
I just heard this for the first time on 740 Zoomer Radio out of Toronto. Their signal reaches clear out here to NW Iowa where I live. Powerful, beautiful song.
I've always felt Canadians have an advantage that the Americans don't for music. We get to hear yours but you often miss out on ours. I'm glad you found this song. I hope you find more like it.
@@42ayla I lived in Montreal and had an American roommate. When she found my old Luba album, she was "Why don't I know about her?????" I gave her the album when she moved back to the US.
I lived in Montreal, could always tell when the American long weekends were because the city just exploded with Americans. We used to go to Plattsburgh for a day trip.
Hang in there gurl. Our fathers are in a good place. I've never known my dad - he was killed by a drunk driver when I was little. I am now a father with not much time left (heart troubles). However, I look forward to seeing the ones I've lost, in the next life. I'm on a ride that I'd not expected to be on so soon (I'm 44 with a 14 year old.) I'll face my fate head on. I'm ready for anything now.
As soon as I heard this song I had to know who sang it and where to find it! I've been a huge fan of Luba's since and was fortunate to see her perform live a few times! Shame she didn't get the international success she so rightly deserved! Maybe other countries will finally catch up!❤❤❤❤
Love her voice! The song popped in my head yesterday and now I am listening to more Luba songs. All the memories coming back to me. That is the beauty of music, even if some memories aren't necessarily good ones. ♥
@@shondylj2993 Born in Montreal, her parents were Ukrainian immigrants. I remember her showing up in our local bar (in a small village 80km outside of Montreal) in the mid 80's. She was my favorite female artist.
@@markusmueller2246 yes, but she and her parents were living in Vegreville, Alberta. If I'm not mistaken, she is back there, and singing Ukrainian music now. She may have been born in Montreal, but she is from Vegreville. I agree, she is a true Canadian icon, I listen to her still. CanCon did so very much for our Canadian artists. Too bad they quit doing as much, because we have some amazing Indigenous rap, and pop groups, whom many have never heard about. And should be played on mainstream radio, but because they are Indigenous, they cannot be played.
Saw Luba live in the early 80's- she opened in Halifax, NS for Chris DeBurg. She sounded fantastic in the Metro Centre. Always wondered about the "politics" of the Music industry - why so many extremely talented performers were not given their chance to succeed.
39 years, what a rush.memories open the door.was listening to linda ronstadt, fleetwood mac, sophie b hawkins patti smith of the warriors and maria mckee of lone justice, when LUBA came to me❤😊
Always makes me cry! I always connected it with the loss of my father! But did not know she wrote it about the loss of her father! But it always cuts real deep....what an angel and talent luba is! Thank you luba!
Boy Canada really has the musical talents to hang & stand up to any of 'em. In my musical collection which is fairly a big one a lot of my favorite artists come from here.
Beautiful voice, incredible song love it. This was the sound effects of my life or the background music. I played this song repeatedly love it if they have a great day.
The very frst time I heard this was the day the guy I was living with @ that time told me, "I don't love you anymore, I want out." This song came on my car radio & I had to pull over & stop I was crying so hard. Still stirs that heartache all these years later.
I had this song played at my mom's funeral not only cause she loved Luba but also Luba wrote this about the death of her father, what a touching tribute and I admire artists who can heal through such beautiful creativity.
Luba wrote this this song in memory of her father who had passed away not long before. It is IMHO one of the greatest songs in the Canadian songbook but has sadly been forgotten as has Luba who has mostly disappeared. She should have at least been a judge on Canada's Got Talent or Canadian Idol the Voice Canada but perhaps she declined which is too bad since it might have kept her legacy alive.
SHE'S GREAT, THE LYRICS ARE BEAUTIFUL, HER VOICE IS IMPECABLE, THE SONG HAS A LOT OF MEANING FOR ME BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF MY DEAR Mother, and Father, my best friend from 3rd grade, and the list goes on and on, AND BECAUSE OF SOMEONE I CARE FOR AND LOVE SO DEEPLY, MADE ME TEAR UP......
Such a underrated singer ..... seen her live at the Ontario Place Forum in the late 80's back in the day ..... awesome concert ....would have loved to see her do a duet and perform with Bette Midler .......... she is on the same level as Bette Midler .... absolutely .....
"Every Time I See Your Picture" was from the "Luba" EP released in 1982. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was released in early 1983 in the UK, late 1983 in the U.S.
Hard to believe there was never an official music video for this Canadian rock classic. Thanks for putting one together. Luba vanished from the musical scene in the 90s, and it always felt like her legacy was forgotten afterwards. It took her over a decade to release a new album, it arguably wsn't as arresting as her previous work, although her vocals were still good, and commercially it was overlooked. I guess she had stayed away too long, although she had her reasons to. Wish she'd get a good manager, one who would find a way to get her going again. I mean, many other artists are still active in spite of having had a limited time in the spotlight... Why not her ?
God bless you and your wife, Ben! With the holidays upon us, you have each other to be thankful for. I hope it's been a year of healing and celebration of her dad's memory!
I heard this song for the first time in the mid 80's on the radio Kardopa Medan, Indonesia and always played every midnight, and more than 30 years later I just found out the name and face of the singer 😂😂😂 but lots of good memories with this song 😄
