It happens when there's no huge gap of separation with the top 3-5 players, in the 2000s there were 3-4 guys(shaq, Duncan, kobe, lebron) people viewed as the best in the league any given year depending on if they won the league MVP or chip it moves them up. We're seeing the same in this generation with giannis, jokic, luka, and embiid (if he could stay healthy and get out the 2nd round).

The problem with embiid is by the time the playoffs come around he's not healthy. I like shai and Tatum but I think embiid is better both offensively and defensively but since he drops in the playoffs and is often not healthy i can understand why you wouldn't have him in the top 5
