Feel free to ask any questions about this soundset, or my opinion on the OB-6, or anything else you might want to chat about be it synths, music, life...
I recently got the Prophet 6, but I'm now wondering if the OB-6 might be the sound I'm after. I like your Synthwave patches for the P6 but this seems to really hit the nail on the head. Are you a fan of one synth over the other?
@@Furniturefosters You're good with the P6. I'd say both the OB6 and P6 nail this particular genre in equal measure. Regarding your question as to wether i prefer one synth over the other. It's very close but due to the slightly wider range of sounds it can produce the P6 ever so slightly edges it.
I’m frankly astounded how you’ve managed to get some FM style sounds out of this. Bravo. I intend on picking this up, but need some patch management software first.
So this will be the third of your OB-6 soundsets i've purchased. your patches really bring the best out of this synth. the factory patches, while they a great example of what can be achieved sonically , are a bit boring and i found few that are very musical or even useable ( for my style of music anyway) . i look forward to exploring all these new patches . thankyou!!!
I find that with most synths. The presets are horrible and very non-musical. I'm extremely impatient and need to feel inspired pretty quickly when using a synth. I just sold my Moog Sub 37 because I hated all the presets and I just couldn't get inspired by it. Almost every sound is just blips, blops and strange sound fx. Great if you're after that i suppose but I need something musical. These patches are perfect. Really inspiring!
Man this sounds so good, congrats! There's something about the OB-6 resonance that is so chimey/bell like just beautiful. Great job on this, have to agree, OB-6 has it's place among the greatest....a true classic in our time. This set sounds amazing Luke, perfect for this genre!
Just when I think I'm finally starting to get a handle on my OB-6 you put out another patch bank and reveal I've barely scratched the surface after 10 months and hundreds of very different presets! Gah! :-P Thank you for the inspiration to continue diving deep. Considering how simple the OB-6 (and P6) LOOK, for anyone that doesn't have one, looks can be deceiving. There may not be a ton of controls or features, but the features that are there can work some magic.
Your patches (3 years ago) convinced me to drop 3k for this fantastic synth. You really bring out the best in this Tom Oberheim /Dave Smith colaboration. Congratulations... will be purchasing soon
Hi Luke, I love your sounds. I bought your Summit synth wave set and now I'm looking at your sets for OB-6. If I collected all 5 sets would they fit into the OB-6, or would they overwrite each other? I don't have a software editor, only SySex Librarian. Thanks.
I have several of Luke's other banks and they are awesome. Not only that, but he was great to deal with and I got my patches right away. Highly recommended. BTW, Luke, these sound great too!
Fabulous sounds Luke! 🖒🖒 I woke up in a rather grumpy mood, but within a minute of listening to these pathes they had put a smile on my face. (this is no small feat! lol 😆) Also, extra kudos for the FM-based patches in this set. They have that pure bell-like tone, but with a bit more character than what you hear from a DX7. 👏👏 I'm looking forward to hearing what you come up with for the Prophet Rev.2 ! 😎
Thanks Derek. Glad you're feeling better. Yeah the FM style patches became a bit of obsession on this one. I was determined to make the OB6 sound like my DX7 :D
@@lukeneptune3820 I know you've had FM-style patches in other soundets, and they sound good, but IMHO, you managed to get closer to that DX7 sound with the OB-6 than the others. Is there something about the design/architecture of the OB-6 that lends itself to FM-style sounds? Is the cross-modulation better?
No these don't use Vintage Mode. You could easily go through each patch and crank the detune knob and save them and then use them in Vintage Mode though. Thanks for the kind words btw
I'm trying to decide between the Rev 2 desktop or the ob-6 desktop by listening to your soundsets because they're the best I've heard. I'm sure you've answered this a thousand times, but which would you recommend out of the two if you only had one choice. Btw, your shop is the first place I'm going to after making a decision.
I'm a progressive rock guy at heart, but finding synth wave quite appealing, since I am a child of the 80s and grew up on 80s rock and pop that used these kinds of sounds. I plan on buying the prophet 6 and this version soon. Are you doing one of these for the rev2, since I have that as well? Also, where did you get the drum sounds from, because I'm looking for those classic 80s drum sounds?
Hi Damon. Yes a Synthwave soundset for the Rev2 is in the pipeline :) The drum sounds will also be available to buy soon in a drum pack i have coming out... Child of the 80s here too btw :D
@@lukeneptune3820 Good news! Despite I love the Oberheim sound, I bought the Rev2 for the 61 keys and polyphony. Although the Rev2 reminds me a lot to the OB-8 and OB-X. I would love this synthwave soundset for the Rev2. Great job Luke.
Hey Luke, would you be able to make me a bank of OB-6 patches that emulate sounds from the Michael Jackson Bad and Dangerous albums? I’ve got a D50, Dx7 and Juno 106 and I know all those were heavily used on the Album, but I’d be really interested to see what you could do with those specific sounds from those albums and how much you’d charge. Thanks, Ally
Please, if you ever get the chance, make a pack for Hydrasynth. Or make the summit pack peak compatible. In desperate need of these awesome presets. Still saving up for a OB-6
So good just listening it... I'm curious about the different between the OB6 and Rev2 synthwave patches (if you will make for the Rev2). This is absolutely brilliant set!
The Rev2 version will have different patches but they'll be in the same style of course. For example i'll be sure to get lots of those DX7 style EPs in there which i've done for both the P6 and OB6 versions. I guess you could say the difference between the Rev2 version will be about the same difference between the OB6 version and the P6 version. There may be a few patches that i will actually recreate such as 'Avalon' which is the very first sound that you hear in demo videos for both the P6 and OB6 versions.
Danny K Thanks!... They load onto bank 2. All 5 of my soundsets for the OB6 load onto different banks so you can have them all on your OB at the same time if you ever wanted to.
@@lukeneptune3820 Cool thanks! Just bought your latest vintage pack after finally downloading the vintage knob update and DANG. Just got lost for hours. Beautiful work, can’t wait to download this pack as well!
Bought your amazing packs. All 5 of them. The unit definitely drives me up the wall though. No matter what I do I can't seem to get the filters to work unless the unit is in Local On mode. In DAW MIDI mode they simply don't work. There's no support for this thing I somehow regret buying it. All I do is fidget with it to get it to work for months instead of make music with it.
@@lukeneptune3820 Wow, quick reply! I haven't even finished the video yet! 😃 Damn, that's too bad! Have you ever tried (or considered trying) to "port" them to virtual instruments?
hey man, i just got a keyboard myself. IT can do Prophet6 and ob6 sound banks i i think all with software. Can you point me in the right direction for making authentic beautiful 80s music in this genre on my keyboard? Like any lessons?
Just listen both your soundest videos for the OB6 and P6 Seems like all your OB6 patches are very mono sounding. All your P6 patches are very L/R Stereo sounding.
Yeah it’s a weird one as I recorded them both in stereo but once uploaded to RU-vid the OB6 version was bounced down to mono. If you (or anyone else) would like the original video sending to over then just send me an email through my website lukeneptune.com
