A real quick, simple video on how to remove the snipe on your Lunchbox planer / thicknesser.
I wish I could say that I came up with the idea but all I did was work on it and make it work for me. The idea credit goes to Matthias Wandel from Woodgears.Ca
If you haven't seen some of his videos already, I would highly recommend checking them out. The builds are amazing and he is an extremely clever guy. Well worth a watch!

Great video as always! When would you use the TPT125 over the Lumberjack PT305 for thicknessing?
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 3 года назад
Good question! There isn't really any time to be honest. The odd occasion would be when we have multiple projects on the go such as signs (having to make multiple panels and making sure they are all uniform) and cabinet builds (squaring timber ready for assembly). Maybe when I have the planer set up on the Lumberjack and want to keep everything as is, then I would get out the TPT125 but otherwise I don't really use it any more. It used to get a huge amount of use before we had the Lumberjack.

Top tip that! Would you recommend the Triton? I'm torn between this and splurging on something more expensive like the Makita/DeWalt, but not sure I'd use it enough to warrant the extra £££. Cheers.

Thanks! I would totally reccomend the Triton, its a great tool for the price. Out of the Makita or Dewalt the Dewalt is a better tool as it has the head lock function and you can buy a Shelix head for it. That being said, by the time you have brought that you have spent over £1k and there are other options for that money. I guess its all about how much it will get used, where you will use it (site or shed/workshop) and how much space you have. Its worth remembering that the Triton is nearly half the price of the Dewalt and thats alot of money saved for other tools 😁

@@TheNaturalWorkshop Cheers mate - that's made my mind up then. Just need to wait for FFX to get them in stock - been a tool shortage as much as the timber shortage it seems! All the best mate.

Hi mate, any chance of buying some of those inserts from you? Also how accurate are the sizes relating to the planed board? Cheers!

Hi there, love the idea but struggling with the execution. Firstly I clamped down too hard and the thicknesser overloaded as it tried to cut into the inserts and could move them. The issue I'm getting is either the inserts want to travel through the machine or the machine won't start as they are clamped too hard. The other thought I had was how do the rollers still spin if the machine is clamped with these?
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 2 года назад
Did you check out Matthias' video? What thickness is the material that you are using for the inserts? Did you notch them like the ones I have?.
@joshuaisaacs8970
@joshuaisaacs8970 2 года назад
@@TheNaturalWorkshop hey thanks for such a quick response. I didnt notch them as I was just using a table saw to make some inserts as your video said they weren't necessary. Think it's the difficulty in knowing how hard to clamp down on them as well
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 2 года назад
No worries. Are they pushed right over to the edge? The rollers and blades shouldn't be contacting them.
@joshuaisaacs8970
@joshuaisaacs8970 2 года назад
@@TheNaturalWorkshop now I'm slightly confused, what should they be coming in contact with as the first point of contact is the roller isn't it?
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 2 года назад
@@joshuaisaacs8970 If you slide them right to the edge they should miss the roller and come into contact with the grey metal work. Skip to 3.40 and see how far over they need to be.

Hey it's me again. Would it be at all possible to do a video or just send me one personally of showing how these sit up against the top of the thicknesser. I used 12mm plywood but the rollers seem to go all the way to the edge so don't know if they have slightly change the thicknesser since you bought it or if I am being an idiot...hopefully the latter haha

Hi Josh, apologies as Ive been ridiculously busy with work. Did you find a solution? I spoke to someome this week and we think that Triton had a redesign at some point which is why you are struggling. Drop me a new comment to let me know as a reply doesn't give me a notification. If your still struggling I might have a fix.
@ollydee2941
@ollydee2941 Год назад
Hi Josh, I also found this problem - the rollers and cutting head go all the way to the edge of the bed underneath. So, to be able to use this method you need to cut a dip into the spacer blocks you're using so that they only contact the machine on the grey metal on the outside of the motor head, and then dip down beneath the level of the rollers and blade. I've found that this means the actual thickness of the piece you put through is 3mm less than the height of the spacer blocks you use as the planer blade level is slightly lower than the level of the grey metal parts. Hope that helps!

Good video, well presented. But the background music, although pleasant, detracts from, rather than enhances, your commentary. It was such a relief when it stopped, halfway through. But then it started again! Arrgh! Also, it would have been helpful if you had demonstrated the machine, with and without the blocks of wood.

Thanks Clive, I know the music isnt for everyone and I understand where you are coming from. Point taken regarding the demonstration, Ill try to get a short video up demonstrating how to use it. If you haven't already, check out the woodgears.ca video which is linked in the description, it really is worth while watching 👍🏼

These are sacrificial?
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 3 года назад
Nope, they sit just right so that the blade doesnt grab them. The trick it to keep them right to the side and clamp the planer down on them. Matthias has a great video on it which is well worth watching.
