Going back and forth on whether to go big on a dac I have the SMSL VMV D1 (Stereo) and SU 8 (headphones). Thinking about Aries II or maybe even Terminator . Interested in your thoughts. BTW your comparisons are the best on YT . Not sure if it's the mic but I can play it through my system and the DSD file sound great. Showing 44.1 on the dac through YT but stills sounds great. Where do you get your DSD files?
Thanks for watching. I bought them everywhere and sometimes rip from records. I am also thinking of getting termy but not in near future....I heard termy and pontus with ares side by side....i like ares' warm and analog sound....termy is in different league....it is not as warm as ares imho but not digital either. If I never heard of Ares, I will be happy with Smsl su8.....some music it is a bit warm but foor some it is a bit hissy or bright.....not consistent but ok....Ares imho is warm all the time :)
Hello. I watched a lot of your videos. You have 2 DACs in stock. SMSL SU-8 and Topping D50. I choose a DAC for purchase. Tell me, are you using a linear power supply for the Topping D50? Which of the two DACs do you think is better?
Hi, thanks for watching. I am currently using a linear PS for topping D50 but to be honest, the improvement is not that much of not noticeable at all. If the price of SMSL-SU8 and Topping D50 are almost close to each other in your location then I will lean toward SMSL-SU8 being it have balance output (in case you will need it) and it already comes with good linear power supply inside.
@@asedillo1 Thank you very much for your response. The price of these devices is about the same. For Topping D50, I planned to purchase a Topping p50 linear power supply. I’m interested in the sound quality. I looked at the forum that the linear characteristic is better with the Topping d50, and it has less noise. Do you think the sound is better with SMSL SU-8?
@@user-ul3dm6ui6s To my hearing, IMHO they almost sound the same. I just started using the XLR out of SMSL SU8 and I must admit, it sound a bit better like with a bit of authority over its RCA output. A bit cleaner but don't get me wrong, RCA output of SMSL-SU8 is good as well. All I can say is for the price, you cannot go wrong either with Topping D50 or SMSL-SU8. They are both great DACs

@@asedillo1 Thanks for the reply! Your videos have great audio, one of best on YT! If I have found correct info SMSL gives 2.1V and Ares II gives 2.2Vrms at RCA. It would be great that you level match, when doing direct comparisons!
