Most later 47s used the Lycoming VO435. V for vertical So i suspect there were some differences in the oil pathways and perhaps no thrust bearing required. I'd love someone who really knows to explain it.
There are several variations of the VO-435 in 47's. All more closely related to the GO-435 with a separate gearcase for reduction gear. Some models with transverse accessories. Your model number suffix would describe layout much like the VIN on a car.
Love lycoming. No lycomings made for light sports, so we have to go with the rotax. Are there any light sports aircraft that have an American engine in them?
No. Too computer sensitive. Coil packs are also more sensitive to heat, moisture, and vibration. Crankshaft sensors go without warning, even after passing a tolerance inspection. One of the reason the industry is trying to go with mechanical diesels.
magnetos work during a power outage, as they produce their own through magnets. If your electronics go out your engine is still fully operational and you can continue to fly safely.
