I miss that Lady that always sat In front row and stood up and danced with whoever performed to her liking!!!! I've never met her but to me she is just as famous as everyone that has blessed the Apollo stage!!!!
Lol...She was really nice too, I was on the show in 03 and lost to Lyfe Jennings, I was the guy who sang "If this world were mine".... Wow, It was definitely an experience!
HE WON 4 TIMES AND GOT PAID TO PERFORM THE 5TH TIME GOD WAS REALLY ON THIS BROTHA SIDE. HIS FIRST ALBUM WAS THE TRUTH LYFE A REAL UNDERRATED TALENT LOVE THIS GUY HOPE HE STAY OUT OF TROUBLE FOR HIS FANS & KIDS.
Damn I remember watching this and the 1st thing I said was "He look like he just got out of jail" and he really did. What was unique about he winning at the Apollo was the first three times he won he sung cry. The next three times he sung Made up my mind, and for his 7th and final victory before he retired he sung Gold. Till this day I'm looking for that song, it's the song that play when this video 1st comes on
Yeah, but this was one of the first songs he wrote. I wish I could watch all 7 of his amateur performances on Showtime at the Apollo. He was the only person I ever seen change songs every other time he won. He sung Cry, another song off his first album and Gold the day he retired
I remember being in prison and waiting up til 2am to watch Showtime at the Apollo. One nite this dude lyfe came on and had 4 prisoner's damn near in tears. The next 2 weeks he had equally moving performances.
Been waiting for this to be uploaded for years. I remembered when it aired and he had me standing up in my living room clapping and shouting at the tv. I still play his first cd loudly every Sunday morning. Glad he made it!
I remember watching this I said somebody need to sign him listening to the radio one day guess who was on there talking about his new cd never give up your dream is always in reach
This the most purest song I ever heard. In my life❤🙌🏽 .... the delivery speak volumes, take me back to that jail cell when you had nothing but songs and tears 😢 I feel this in my soul
I remember watching this live while my mom was doing my hair late at night. I had to have been 12 or 13 at the time. I've NEVER forgotten how this song made me feel when I first heard it, and all those emotions just flooded back
Just saw him perform last night here in Chicago. Dude sounds EXACTLY the same at 45 years old now. One of the best vocal performances I've ever witnessed live! Touched my soul. Straight gospel
I've been a fan of LYFE ever since watching this with my girl at the time. I remember telling her... I hope this Nigga Blows TF up! I was so happy when he finally did. Lyfe's music really touches people. He's a very special talent. Salute to him.
I heard this when it was in the show in a rebroadcast on the Armed Forces network in March 2003, while I was in Japan. Absolutely amazing. I still talk about this sing and audition 10 years later.
Never knew this is how he started. This is dope! I love Lyfe. When my husband was locked up he used to dedicate all his songs to me & sing them to me. So lyfes songs has carried me thru alot of tough times. Apollo discovered all the real talent! I used to live around the corner from there when i lived in ny, but never saw anyone famous..lol
I remember this like it was yesterday. He won 7 weeks in a row., and was one of the only ppl that actually changed songs after winning. But his finally victory before they retired him he sung a sing called Gold. I wish I could find that performance online
I was incarcerated in the same prison with him such a laid back dude never looked angry but at the same time never smiled and when he laughed it was always just a small lil laugh and smirk just a chill humble guy stayed playing his guitar and singing and when he sang in the church room he had the biggest hardest craziest toughest dudes in a daze looking like they was about to cry always said he would be on the Apollo next thing we knew he was out and we all had his cd then so many others was rapping and singing saying they was gonna make it to
Wow its crazy how when you look back at this people didn't know he was going to be a star and now look at him now he's popular today ain't that something if he can do you can too
I remembering hearing this song back then on his album that I bought and this is one of them songs that resignates to me. That one and "she got kids" i didn't know he got discovered at the Apollo. Wow. What a beautiful soul what a beautiful voice. He's a troubled man but he got a great heart. We all are the product of our environment.
I'm proud of you man I'm sorry had a we had a meet him prison but I'm proud of you made something of yourself may God bless you always my brother stay strong and stay free
this is a beautiful song and I seen the show when he was on the Apollo and when he kicked this joint I felt it profoundly and I did cry he's locked down at the moment keep your head up brother
I remember this one too! I fell in love with Lyfe at this moment! His 1st album is *STILL* my favorite & the only one I still play bcuz he was still pure & true to the music! Then the industry showed him how to get those dollars, 👿👿👿! I still think he sacrificed that girl & her man who sang on his S.E.X. track. I can't remember her name, but I know y'all know who I'm talking about.
Thanks for posting this. I remember seeing it on tv and I had always wondered what happened to him. Then he got his deal and blew up. Lol. But I wanted to see the first performance and couldn't find it anywhere so....thanks...again.
He was the only 7 time champion that changed his song 3 times...He song Cry 3 times, Made up my mind 3 times, and on his last performance he sung a song called GOLD...He never released that song but it's one of my favorites, I know all the words but can't sing....lol
