Thankyou for another informative video. I wish every breast cancer patient would follow Dr Griggs and Dr Liz O’Riordan who is a breast surgeon who lives with breast cancer. Both channels give evidence based informative information. Their videos really help in making informed decisions about our cancer care, and they answer a lot of questions that come up between Drs visits. Knowledge is power.

Love & Live! I too subscribed & Follow both channels. These Lady doctors are my only information central & support group. I live in a small mid western Ohio town. Still struggling to get back from COVID. So they are everything to me. Best wishes & prayers to you. On your journey.

That was an eye opening comment made. About infections / cellulitis setting up in the arm lymph nodes where removed from. I've had 2 incidences of infection happen. Then was never told this was something that can happen. ,(Look out for it ) can happen again. Because of lymphatic interruption. Was told taking blood pressure & IV's on that side was A Ok. Then you hear that maybe it best you don't,! So again Dr, Griggs Thank-you for truthful honest information. You'd think someone would tell you this stuff but they don't😢

Just last week, my breast cancer support group had a guest speaker from a physiotherapist who specialises in breast cancer care and lymphoedema. I was given handouts about lymphoedema and shoulder care by the breast nurses at the hospital prior to surgery. The breast care nurse also reinforced the importance of arm exercises post surgery. In the hospital I attended in Sydney Australia, each time I saw a doctor prior to surgery there was also a breast care nurse there at the appointment to answer questions after seeing the doctor. I also saw a breast nurse after my first medical oncology appointment to start aromatase therapy. I have also been given the phone number and email of the breast cancer nurse, who I can contact if I have questions or concerns between appointments. Each area will do things a little differently, but it might be helpful to enquire what you medical systems offers for education and support.

@@LoveLiveCruise You sound as if your lucky enough to live in a area where you enjoy a network of trained individuals who guide you through every step of your breast cancer journey. @@juaquiene7726 The same applies in Australia. My mammogram was through a screening clinic. Which meant that I was sent for a recall mammogram through a large teaching hospital , instead of my GP. All follow up appointments have been in large suburban hospitals. Our rural areas really struggle in all services. Since Covid there is only 1 face to face support group. I have to drive 45min one a fortnight for this support. Lots of online support, is available, but that’s not the same as face to face. Im sure you struggle with face to face support groups in a rural area. I also rely on selected RU-vid channels for further knowledge. Especially at a time I am ready to take it in. I missed the information about taking Aromatase therapy breaks if needed to manage side effects, the first time I watched it on this channel, I watched the same information on another channel. I felt this was a game changer in having a plan on how to stick to the medication for 5 years, if I really struggled with the side effects. I then was re watching a video by Dr Griggs on Aromatase therapy and she had said the same thing. I just didn’t take the information in the first time, as I wasn’t asking myself those questions at the time. I think I was too focussed on radiation at the time I first watched that video. I so love a knowledge I get from you tube. It give me a lot of support. I sense you feel the same juaquiene7726. My thought and prayers are with you, and hope that you don’t have any more incidences of infection. 🌼🥰🇦🇺

I found this video fascinating as I had not fully understood the risks and potential causes of lymphoedema. A question - can you get lymphoedema any time after surgery or if you’re going to be vulnerable to it are there any signs or post surgery timeframe? Also if you get it once are you likely to keep getting it?
@yerbba
@yerbba 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching. Yes, it can develop at any time after surgery, usually after an inciting event such as an injury. If treated early, it is usually not a life-affecting long term effect, but for some people, it can be a lifelong problem. Something not to take lightly.

Can shaving on the node removal armpit cause infection? I got a seroma shortly after shaving and it got infected.
@yerbba
@yerbba 3 месяца назад
Great question. It's hard to know in a given person if shaving caused the problem. Razors can introduce bacteria into the skin, so it's possible. On the other hand, seromas and infections can occur even in people who don't shave.

Can it occur in the opposite side? I had a mastectomy on my left side 5 years ago but I have swelling under the arm pit/ side of breast on my right side.

It is possible that lymphedema can occur on the other side, yes. This is uncommon but not unheard of.

How about only if only Sentinel lymph nodes are removed? Does it cause it?
@yerbba
@yerbba 6 месяцев назад
People with sentinel nodes only removed can still develop lymphedema.

I think that my 35 radiation therapy treatments as well as the surgery both contributed to my bad lymphedema. then I broke my wrist on that same side and all hell broke loose with the lymphedema after that.
