The Germans did not have MG42s and MP40s as commonly as you think. There were usually only one MG (many times it was an MG34) and one MP40 (for the noncommissioned Officer) per squad. Everyone other squad member had a Kar98k, which was not as effective in combat as the M1 Garand.
@Banned4life88 Yeah but which I puked you rather have? A bolt action 5 round 8mm Mauser Kar98k, or a semi automatic 8 round 30-06 M1 Garand? I’d take the Garand.
One belt fed MG and one SMG per sub dozen krauts is pretty damn common. Much like the British, German doctrine didn’t actually require the riflemen to do all that much shooting, their job was mainly to feed and protect the squad light machine gun, which was considered the primary source of firepower, not the infantry rifles.
One problem. The garand was developed between the wars, long before it was certain America was gonna fight the nazis, and definitely before the mp40 and mg42.
Honestly, having older weapons like this make me wonder how effective something like a break action shotgun would be. Sure it only gets 2 rounds, but you could put the second one down in an instant should the first not do the job. Plus, a short barrel sawn-off would seem neat for sweeping tight spaces, or a longer hunting barrel for better use at ranges than other shotties. But it would make sense still, it is an insurgent guerilla force, not a professional, well armed military.
Something that I noticed when using the smoke launcher is if you switch to it for a second or two, go to your pistol and then back, you will have loaded the smoke round. This also works vice versa, were you switch to the regular m1, pistol, and back to regular m1 it will remove the grenade.
No serious historian thinks that the M1 Garand played a significant role in winning WWII. Small arms were a very small part of the war machines of that period, and U.S. logistics, air, and artillery power, and the far greater availability of vehicles were all much more important than using the Garand over the Sprinfield and the M1917. Also the SVD is not derived from the AK, it looks similar but functions quite differently. The PSL on the other hand is as far as I know just a big AK.
@@MrIronhat Well they had the BAR, but they kinda fucked it up with shitty sights and a shitty bipod. Also, that's not irony, it's only irony if the result of an action is the exact opposite of what is expected. And I expect the US and most militaries to make stupid procurement decisions.
Fun fact: the SVD, while looking much like an AK, actually is not mechanically derived from it at all, rather it was implemented using a completely different system.
A whole different beast indeed, the designer was the maker of many precision competition rifles. In the US a SVD can fetch between $8,000 to $15,000 depend on make and original purpose, some commercial made ones made into the United States before the import ban.
The history is all kinds of wrong. It's presented as though the M1 was a counter to German small arms like the MP40 and MG42 as per the video which is just patently false. The semi auto trials started just after WW1 and the adoption of the garand predates them by 4 years.
Great video as always, and I've been looking forward to this one. I'm honestly super glad they actually made the Garand a viable weapon, I really expected it to end up as a gun that I want to love but can't get good performance out of. (a lot like the grease gun in sandstorm or the g36c in bf4) I'm hoping the nonexistent penetration gets fixed though, as even though I only played for like and hour or two yesterday the lack of wallbang capabilities was blatantly obvious and sorely missed. Lastly, while you got the Garand right and even included my favorite quote, I sadly cannot spare you from the annoying gun nerd within me. At 3:45 you said that the SVD is AK-based, which is in fact a common misconception. The two guns are almost completely unrelated mechanically, although it's pretty clear that the SVD took inspiration from the AK in the ergonomics and handling department. With all that being said it's a super common misconception and I probably believed it at some point, and your viewers probably either already know it's not an AK or already think it's an AK, so no harm is really done.
Notice the low number on the heel of the receiver. Originally that one would had been gas trap M1, after making 50,000 of them, they decided a ported (a hole in the barrel) was a better design. When gas traps rifles came back in for arsenal work, most were retro fitted to the newer ported design. The in game design is that of a ported barrel. But with millions made by various makers, why did the makers choose that number?
Don't worry about saying Garand wrong - you still have a channel full of videos of you saying carbine wrong. Anyway, those videos are still good and so is this one. Common enough mistakes may as well not be mistakes. Thanks for uploading!
Great video as usual! I feel like they did a great job making this thing hit like an absolute truck (and shoot like one too, couldn't hit a damn thing after the first shot because of that horizontal recoil haha). Was also super exciting realizing I was in a server with you yesterday! Keep up the great work man!
2:30 - "...tossing around the old Mk2 Frag Grenades..." Sorry my good friend, but those are F1 grenades, however, you are right in that they're WW2 era 'nades, albeit they were used by the Soviets, not the Americans.
Amazing video as always. Haven't jumped into the update yet and this video has motivated me to do so, even with all the issues it brought along. Keep it up!
CTE was pretty good with mostly visual bugs but the update has been the buggiest one yet. Class creation broken, file corruption, connection issues, and lack of transparency with the weapon limit change makes this the worst update in the game thus far. Damn shame cause the new guns, skins and selection screen are the only that isn't horrendously implemented.
Great gun guide! can't wait for your review of the recent update. I am not returning to the game since BAB is not available for Frontline.....again, the devs just ignore a huge part of the player base.....woop.
The garand was not supposed to counter the mp40, that was the grease guns job. The us got into ww2 with a decent smg anyway, the m1 thompson. The open bolt stg 44 prototype you are talking about, the ""mp 42"" rather known as the mkb 42 didnt even exist when the garand was designed and later fielded in 1941. German small arms were infact behind the curve in 1941 and not technologically advanced, the most advanced german weapon at the time was the mg34. While germany fielded bolt actions the us and the ussr actually used semi automatic weapons in huge amounts.
No, the designers name and the weapons name are NOT pronounced the same. It doesn't matter what his name is because "M1 Garand" is a military designation, and the military did not pronounce it the same as the designers last name.
Coming from post Scriptum this weapon is a terror. Ngl though the grenade launcher animation gets me everytime. If only you could bring a combination of smoke/he
good video man , so about the new update : my fps droped like crazy , from constant 140 to variations around 70/80 fps ... the game is broken to me >< anyobne else with low fps since update ? thanks
The round if using metric is 7.62x63mm (it looks like a .308/7.62x51mm but with a longer case). Understanding this yeah it should have more penetration depending on FMJ usage on 7.62x51mm it should be about the same
I've seen ww2 demonstration footage where they show a 30-06 penetrate a brick wall, so the no penetration is either some dumb balance thing or a bug. Haven't tried it so idk if it's fixed.
I played Insurgency Sandstorm for months with no major issues except some occasional clipping, a crash once in a blue moon or a floating weapon After I installed the Cold Blood update, the performance that had always been a smooth 60 now chugged at 40 occasionally, the scopes were sometimes all black making me unable to aim and it crashed twice in an hour, the second time being so bad that not even Task Manager popped up, forcing me to reboot I dunno what the fuck NWI were thinking releasing the update in this state. This isn't Cyberpunk with a bunch of fans demanding its release, we can wait for a decently optimized update
Well upscaling would not be a problem for saying its AK based. The PKM is basically a belt fed upside down AKM action so it is also AK based and it fires the same round then the SVD.
curious of your opinion of them adding in the prototype scope that replaces your rear irons, the full auto conversion that was effectively useless but was stupid and funny enough I want it anyway and or being able to topload the rifle without fully ejecting the clip the former would be easier its basically a 1x sight, it would even work with the 2.5x since it is so small it fits in the iron sight bay, same as full auto select fire neither were really used a whole lot but both are really cool features and there is a desert eagle so fuckin why not the idea of partial loading would be a very different set up since this game doesnt do loose ammo but I think it would be cool if it did have that as a feature, instead of dropping an empty mag with a fast reload you could keep it and even top it up, but the game isnt quite slow enough for that with all the restock points, i just think it would br prettyyyyyy hehehe
M110 SASS and MK14 EBR both have same peneration power, ammo types and effective range. How in the world M110 SASS can't able to penerate a light armor from long range but MK14 EBR and SVD does?
If I could actually play this game (waiting for it on PS4) I’d use this gun allot. I love a gun that actually drops players. Just work on your accuracy and you’ll be a killing machine.
The only thing I don't like about the Garand is the reloads. The bolt isn't supposed to lock back like that when you shove the clip in and it honestly just looks and feels weird, especially on the speed reloads. In my opinion Day of Infamy had much nicer and more snappy animations overall, Sandstorm's just feel like they tried to make them as slow as possible for absolutely no reason.
It depends on the condition of the gun. Hickok45 says that some bolts will snap forward, while some you need to nudge it or push it. Considering that the Garand, being over 70 years old, and is being utilized by insurgent forces who don't exactly "care" for their weapons, it is plausible for the reload ingame.
@@underated_username7567 While yes it does happen, as someone who has shot a few different M1 Garands on multiple occasions I can safely say that if the gun is reloaded properly it's not supposed to happen. The Garand is also extremely reliable, the worst you'd have to deal with (unless the gun was completely screwed) would be having to bump the charging handle a bit due to it not completely closing all of the way, and even if hypothetically the gun was so gummed up you have to push the bolt forward for it to close (the gun wouldn't even be able to run properly at that point and in the best case scenario you'd have a bolt-action Garand), why is the Garand thumb reload in the game then? It'd never happen if you have to force the bolt to go forward every time. But regardless of how technically correct the reloads are I just find them to look bad. If it was just maybe a quick pulling the bolt back a little bit (with the bottom of your hand as you insert the clip) to let it ride forward I'd be fine, but your character has to push the thing with a fair bit of force making the reloads come as overly slow and and less satisfying and snappy. IMO they should have made the quick reloads be the proper way with the slower reloads how they are in the game now.
I would adore this gun as a rifleman even if I couldn't equip any attachments at all, and I'd have to live with irons. I feel like I'm wasting one of my team's marksman slots every time I play with this gun.
They could add both new weapons to the rifleman, get rid of suppressor, marksman optics and maybe up the cost a bit for the garand, it's very good for that cost (6 points for the other gun would be fair too imo)
3:46 now I get it this has been out 10 months and this has been commented a metric shit ton at this point, but SVD means dragunov already essentially, amazing video tho
I’m glad we got new optics and guns but seriously the A.I needs to be tweaked. Again. I hate how you can’t be in the same zip code as a bot without getting sniped by a M870 from 80 meters away
