My friend and I just got the 11 inch M2 iPad Pros. We upgraded from the 2016 9.7 Pro and the 2017 10.5 Pro. All the reviews seem to think everyone is upgrading from the M1 versions. Our older devices had battery problems. I would bet most people upgrade from much older iPads, not the M1.
This is exactly me and my wife. She has my old 9.7, I have the 10.5. I get that it’s not the best upgrade from m1 to m2. But we’re not all RU-vidrs who buy a new iPad every year. The m2 means it will be relevant for another 6 years for me.
Would be interesting to hear why writing is so much better with hovering. Like, I get it, it's a quality of life thing, but writing on my M1 is already a dream.
Even as someone who uses the iPad Pro 12.9 everyday for art, I couldn’t justify the M2 price. Amazon has the 256GB M1 for $200 off, so that was a great upgrade from my 64GB 2018.
Apple can add the hovering pencil in the old iPad as it's software not hardware capabilities, my old 2016 Tab 8 samsung tablet have that function why not my iPad M1 2021 pro ?
i’m returning my brand new in a box (never opened) M2 ipad pro 11”, 256gb to the apple store today and buying an apple certified, refurbished M1 ipad Pro 11” 256gb. I’ll be saving $140. Does anyone think I’m making a mistake?
I have a 1Tb M1 iPad Pro and it is rapid, none of the updates are that compelling right now. Maybe in another 3-4 years when a new design comes out that has been refined.
Yes for the most part iPad Pro is just a spec bump with faster speed..... Get over it people! If I wanted a iPad Pro, and did not already have one I would purchase the M2 iPad Pro. If I had the M1 iPad Pro I see no reason to update. Test you could not do yet is how it performs in the real world with DaVinci Resolve that is coming out for the iPad Pro.
I went from a 2018 12.9 64Gb to the 2022 12.9 1Tb, new screen is nice and it seems faster, mainly went for the 1Tb to get 16Gb in case it helps with stage manager, external display and futures
@@skytron22 I have to admit after 2 days of travelling into London for meetings with yesterday using my old 2018 iPad Pro and today my 2022 I have noticed a significant difference between the 2 devices, as you would expect the M2 feels smoother when jumping around between applications but for the money you would hope so wouldnt you? 😂
I would have upgraded from my 2020 iPad Pro had they switched the front facing camera to landscape mode, but other than that my Ipad Pro is still crushing it (and not even m1), so I have no reason. The hover would be nice with apple pencil as I do some art and animation, but I can wait until they fix the camera.
Great review. After you’ve used it a while, would it be possible to report back on the battery use? Whether it lasts longer or not? Thanks for the video.
Question for any iPad owner… Do you put a screen protector on your iPad? I never had one on my 2013 iPad Air and I’ve never got a scratch on it. I just upgraded to the 2021 pro 12.9 and I don’t if I should add a screen protector.
Didn't have an ipad in my whole life i lived till date but now I'm in college 2 year , going make a big jump from 0 to M2 chip ipad pro 12.9 . Let's goooo
I’m still on my 12.9 inch 2018 iPad Pro. I cant find a reason to upgrade to any iPad after this one until this one stops getting software support. Theres barely any differences 4 years later.
I just bought the 256gb M1 iPad Pro for 1179€. If I went for the same spec M2, if wold cost me 1609€. 😢 I know we have a 3 year warranty but… 420€ diference it’s a lot for, in real life, the same tablet.
I upgraded from 1st Gen iPad Pro 12.9 which still works flawlessly to the M2 Pro 12.9….just got it today but I’m still deciding if I should keep it. Technically for what I do I don’t need an M1 or 2.
I think you should keep it, the gains from the original 12.9 inch to this are enormous to say the least. the new face id system instead of touch id, the super sharp and super color accurate display with reference mode and the ginormous power upgrade as well as the battery which yours is probably degraded a lot makes a huge difference. Plus, the new style of cases with keyboard and mouse support would be a great addition with stage manager and external display (which is probably the biggest feature everyone with an iPad wanted to have)
@@tennyson70 thanks for your reply. The battery on my 1st gen still goes all day, I suppose a testament to quality of hardware. I know there are numerous upgrades, but I wanted to make sure the performance wasn’t just marginally better. When Apple designed my 1st gen, they set out to create a tablet that would wow users in every way. The M2 proves Apple’s upgrades may not be as significant as people believe. I’m not a huge fan of Stage Manager, productively it’s a waste of time. It should be the same as in MacOS. Why do I need to learn two different apps that do the same thing but function differently? In any case, I think I’m going to exchange my 512gb M2 for a 1TB…16gb memory sounds appealing but may not be worth it. I don’t know.
Being one of the fools who DID upgrade from the 2021 M1 iPad Pro to the 2022 M2 iPad Pro, I agree that the upgrade is not worth it (except, see below). I don't really notice the speed increase. I'm sure it's there. I'm not launching a conspiracy theory. I'm just saying that the 2021 iPad Pro as fast AF and the incremental improvement is hardly noticeable to me. However, I don't completely regret upgrading, but that's only because of the trade-in value. Apple gave me a trade-in credit of more than $400 for my 2021 iPad. I guess I'd still say it's not worth the upgrade, but at least I now have the latest greatest at a substantial discount.
I am from IPAD AIR 3 And use it for 2 yrs it is till good but I opted to upgrade to Ipad pro m2 because of Procreate. I use procreate everyday for my work and upgrading to M2 increases the layers that I can use per art canvas. Plus it is future proof
i just picked up the ESR Rebound keyboard case and i love it. its just like the Magic Keyboard but without the price. i have the m1 iPad Pro with 1tb. i was going to get the new m2 pro but the new m2 isnt enough to drop another $1800 for the little bit of performance. I use my iPad Pro M1 for mostly photo editing and it does a phenomenal job. So I’m gonna stick with it unless they come out with a 14 inch iPad Pro
I want to get my first iPad Pro which one should I get the 2021 or 2022 cus I want to learn how to draw emotes and watch movies other stuff to idk if I should get the m1 or m2
In terms of performance the m1 (2021 iPad) is still very powerful and capable of just about everything. but the new 2022 iPad is great for artist because of the new UI they implement for the Apple Pencil. They call it “hover”. basically you can preview and adjust your marking by hovering the pencil over the screen. it gives artist more precision instead of having to adjust the pencil size manually through the application.
@@jeremyr.1927 and then M1 16GB 1-2 TB or M2 8GB RAM 512GB for creative designs/maybe video/some motion? I got a heavy PC maschine and it's going to be my first iPad.
Thanks for the compare no biggie lost that I bought the M1 12.9 a month ago. And don't feel cheated much. Great sponsor as also got that ESR cover you showed and it's Great! Tho it is lighter than a lot of other options that add 1lb or more this cover is 12.3 Oz's. Don't care munch about the benchmarks as App developer's haven't even harnessed the M1 alone the M2 yet. And can't see a real world benefit. By the time developer's make enough complex apps that need the M2 will be time then for me to upgrade in 2-3yrs.
@@kingofdaslumz I wouldn't like buying your wife a high performance car for city use. I doubt majority even needs the M1 alone the M2 as even the older 2018-19 are still very capable iPad's.
@Orbmiser nah man she does alot of work and school related things on her iPad pro because the MacBook air is too slow. For the same money I would have preferred the newer one but it's whatever. She doesn't seem to mind
I guess that is 2018--have it also but with battery issues so bought M1 last year--will keep both (2018 as backup). Won't upgrade either until either major issues or they can't get software updates.
Which should I buy? $1,000 for an M1 12.9-Inch iPad Pro with Wi-Fi + Cellular - 256GB (Unlocked) or $950 for an M2 12.9-Inch iPad Pro with Wi-Fi - 128GB? I mainly use the iPad for productivity and media consumption. Both are new.
After the announcement i bought the air, it is the best purchase right now! i wanted to be sure that the new ipads pro wouldn’t be a lot better (new features/design)… apple made it easy! ipad air all the way
@@jessw391 hi, I did buy the M1 11in and actually ended up taking it back. I really did like it but I found i would like the larger one instead. The tablet also didn't have cellular campabilities and I found i need that. Otherwise I thought the M1 was more than enough for me needs.
No, unless your doing major 4k video editing/ tons of layers on art and or you keep a ton and i mean a TON of tabs open in safari then you'll feel no difference.
Thanks for sharing, just purchased a M1 11” open box excellent condition at Best Buy for $595. I feel better about my purchase after watching this comparison video.
Andrew, what if one has the 4th gen 12.9, since things like Center Stage are also available on it, is there enough difference with all the software constraints out there to bump up to this M2 version?
With the newer 12.9" iPad Pro you get: - Mini-led display with true blacks, HDR support with 1600 nits brightness and reference mode. - Faster performance and longevity (90% faster CPU and GPU) M2 Chip - 8GB/16GB RAM with memory swap support - True external display support with stage manager (M1& M2 Chip) - Display scaling option to increase PPI (shows more content at a time) - 5G if you care about that
