M2 MacBook Pro 16" Did I Make A Mistake!? (One Week Later!)

I got the 16" M1 Max, I wanted the larger screen and more screen realestate for graphics work and the increased GPU cores for 3d work and I'm not disappointed. I always use it on a table or desk, I've never used a laptop on my lap I find it awkward and it's not heavy despite what reviewers seem to constantly say, I also don't need to go hiking with it and use it in remote locations so its increased size is not a concern. Personally I hate working off laptop screens smaller than 15", I'm after a portable desktop experience rather than an "on the go" on a train or plane experience.

Good points. Best call I think is to get the form factor that feels and works best for you, and the performance will work itself out depending on your use case.

I upgraded to an M2 Mac Book Pro 16” from a 2014 Mac Book Air. So yeah. It is a HUGE difference! However, I have to stress that my 2014 still works. As does my 2007 Mac Book Pro. Macs are just the shit man. Great video.

I have the 14” M1 MacBook Pro. While I love this machine, I’d rather have the 16” model if I had a choice (mine was provided through my job). Some of us just have larger laps. 😊

Here's what works [for me] if you can afford it: - For road warrior, flight use, coffee shops, non-CPU intensive work: MacBook Air M2 - For coworking heavy-duty work and home/office: MacBook Pro 16 Max M1/M2 And if you can only afford one: - MacBook Pro 14 Pro/Max M1/M2 (great compromise as a solid mobile laptop)

Love your down to earth/honest videos. I have the 2021 14” MacBook Pro and will stick with my laptop for at least one to two more years. Great laptop!!

I have had my M1 MAX Pro for 6 months and compared to my mid-2012, it works well. I wish they made a 32 core CPU as opposed to extra GPU as I run VMs.. but It is mostly a desktop for me. Still a $3,700 laptop is well a bit much.

16 is the way to go if you just have it at home. I love mine but it never leaves my desk. Love that I can just open it and do all my Logic Pro work without ever having to put it on an external display. I can sit in bed and play Civilization, its a gorgeous thing even 1 year later sometimes I open it and just say “my god” in absolute astounded glory.

For me, 16" is a must. I open several applications at the same time including Premiere, AfterEffects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Cinema 4D, Office Suite and more and with as many floating palettes as I can fit. I had maxed out 96GB of RAM just for these opened applications.

The MBP16 is hands down the best computer I have ever used in my life! Love love love! Sound, display, battery life, etc. I would like the size of the smaller MBP or the 14P for portability, but I dont want to sacrifice the full performance, battery and display of the 16. For my work (music production) the extra screen space is invaluable. Just because you don’t feel the extra screen real estate doesn’t make a difference for you, there are professional use cases where it can make a big difference to workflows.

Seems like a great work laptop for tall people or people who don't have a TV monitor if they work from home. I work in IT for a major company and noticed a similar trend with the Lenovo Thinkpad T16 G1. All the people who ordered it for their PC refresh either didn't have a TV monitor at home or were very tall. Rarely do you see people with a 16-inch laptop of any brand at coffee shops or on airplanes. It's the 13 and 14-inch laptops at coffee shops and on airplanes for the most part.

If you edit photos on the run without an external display, like I do, a 13 inch display gives you roughly an 9” diagonal image proof to work with. On a 16 inch, that’s more like an 12-13 inch proof. It makes a big difference when you’re editing lots of images at a fair pace with professional expectations.

I absolutely LOVED my 17” MBP - purchased in 2008 and still running today! I replaced the original HD with an SSD IN 2015. But it still lights up and purrs. Looking forward to using the 16” M2 chip model…

Thanks for your enlightenment. I am still using a 15inch 2015mbp. Mainly used for still photography (tethering on location) I think 16inch is a better choice for my situation. . I owned 11inch powerbook(smaller screen experience) 15inch MBP almost same size and same weight as 16inch. I am in Malaysia and M2pro series is NOT reach our shore yet. Also M1pro 16 is having a discount...

I got 16” from my workplace and bought 14”. I WFH and use 16” much more often than 14”.

I travel a lot so the 14" MBP would be a more practical choice for me. Now if I can just fit it into my budget...

Hear me out on this as I swapped twice! On release day I got a 14” like I already had. The next day I said you know what let me try the 16” and I was shocked how big it felt and weight so much I went back to the 14”’but wait…. Today I once again ordered a 16” max 38 model again 😂 because my god nothing is better. It runs so much cooler, longer battery, the screen, speakers and what I feel like is the ugliest form factor on the block. Even though I hate how it feels to carry, hate how it looks, hate how it feels it still does everything I need it to do and does it better, faster, MUCH quieter fans this year (the 14” spins up to 6800rpm now after blasting to 108c when the 16” for me hasent gone past 90 and still quiet fans). It’s all I need to see to know the bad stuff is worth it this time around. I might reconsider when m3 comes but until then this is the best of the best and for the money that’s what I want not a hot running watered down chip just because it’s more pleasing to carry. Note I don’t travel via airplane often but if I did I would simply take an iPad or an Air if you have one and keep the 16” on deck in your bag for when your off the flight then use the air or iPad as a sidecar display at your destination for multiple display workstation. Can’t lose

I was able to snag a brand new 14 inch M1 Pro 10 core/16 core 16 gb/1 TB SSD for $1999, which is more than adequate for my usage. The 14 inch size is perfect. The 16 inch would be too large for my taste. I tend to be reclining and have it on my lap. For travel, I have the M2 Air, also specced up (16gb/500 SSD). I saved $150 on that one, too. Both laptops are great. I just could not bring myself to buy the base model of either, given the slower one NAND chip issue.

I use the 14”, but I generally have it docked to the 27” Apple studio monitor. So I get both a big screen at home and the portability of the 14” MBP. Perfect for me.

Took my 14” back. Over heating with the max chip. I think the cooling bank isn’t sufficient enough. Best to just go M2 Pro on 14” and not the MAX.

I ordered a 16in M2 Max with all the fixings. I'm not too fussed with the size/weight. It's basically the same size and weight as my wife's older 15in MBP and my Razor Blade 15. I would've liked a 14in for a change but as someone who needs to use After Effects and Cinema 4D on it at times, it's just too cramped and workflow inhibiting.

I have never used my MBP's charging brick. I don't even know where it IS. I plug it into my USB-C cable that goes to my monitor, and that's cool because it means one less video cable on my desk and it charges the MBP just fine.

I’m going with 14 inch, since most of the time I am using the Studio Display.

I hear you and luke and all of you talking about portability, I don't see myself going out with such a computer which I hope to buy someday.. I'm just bored of having 13-inch laptop for decades, the 17 inches stopped in 2011 and is not upgradeable and now with a real Mac, I want to get one I good carry from home to the office. (but would mostly stay at home to have a second working computer for graphic design etc..

Side by side, the 14” is too whimpy! 😅 Once you’ve had 16”, you can’t go back… 😏 …..But seriously the bigger display, better speakers, bigger track pad, better cooling and especially the battery life 🔋 make it a no-brainer. …….and get the M1 folks 😅 Save the money 💰

That's what we do in Alaska, stash a bunch of rocks into an empty backpack early in the summer & go running up and down any hills we can find so we'll be in shape for the fall mountain sheep hunt. 😎😎Just keep the 16 " Heavy Duty Mac Pounder, throw in a bunch of big Macs and you're good to go!😎😎

coming from a 2013 pro retina 15 inch I was surprised to see that the size is nearly identical between the 2023 MacBook Pro 16 inch and the 2013 even though the 2023 has an extra inch of screen.

And on the side i was thinking about buying a high spec Macbook Pro and i will just pay it mothly for 3 years and think about it as if i am paying for a tuition fee for a school. I was thinking about learning programming,graphic design,music,japanese(because i live in japan)etc.Is this a good idea?Any advice for me and what spec should i get?

I've pretty much given up an apple making a 16 inch Macbook air so I just ordered a base model m2 16 inch Macbook pro to replace my m1 air. 13 and even 14 is too small. I still wish they bring back the 17 inch though.

You don't buy a 16 inch MBP with portability in mind. You have MB Airs and smaller 13-14 inch options for it. You sacrifice a little portability for specs that's how I see it.

It's quite funny when you say that the 16-inch MacBook is large and heavy. It's the same size as the previous 15-inch MacBook (2020 and earlier), with no difference in size. As for the weight, I'm glad it's not made of creaky plastic.

I got the 16” M2 Max on launch. However, I just ordered a 14” M2 Max last night, supposed to come in tomorrow. I have until Feb 7 to return my 16”. So we’ll see which one I like more. I upgraded from a 13” 2017 macbook pro, so i kinda miss that size… also ordered space gray for the 14 since i miss that color from my 13”

It’s not the size, but how you use it. But if you have loosely high memory requirements, then bigger is definitely better so you can get the 96GB.

I find the 16-inch way too big. I used to think bigger is better, but once I got the 14-inch Pro I fell in love with it! Maybe for programmers and content creators, the 16-inch is better.

Less is more. It takes a lifetime for some people to learn this. But, to each their own - spend your money as you see fit. It’s the M2 MacBook Air for me - the MacBook Pro is extreme overkill for my needs. The size and weight of the Pro model is more of a burden than a benefit.

At 8:35 the 12/19 core isn't M2 Max. M2 Max has 12/30 cores and 12/38 cores. Did you refer to the 19 or 30 cores?

I have the 16” and it stopped working. It will not turn now and my warranty expires on the 12 of March. I an not happy.

For me 16" is the perfect size, better thermals, performance, speakers, battery life, runs silent and the screen is amazing, but I get, to be fair even the M1 MacBook Air is awesome.

It’s just a video of you thinking out loud. Lol. The 15.4 has been my biggest to date and 16 is so tempting. I have never brought a laptop to a cafe and haven’t traveled with one in awhile since I use the iPhone for that. Ugh! I’m typing out loud!

I think it’s really dishonest how you guys buy these things with a complete intention of returning them. If 10,000 RU-vidrs, do like you, it affects us all. I find it very unethical. You’ve never had attention to keep this, it’s performed and did fantastic for you, but you’re returning it anyway.

Typing on the 15 inch air or 16 inch pro is horrible. Keyboard is set so far back, you've got to rest your wrists on the trackpad, or just next to it. It's awful. Love the 13 inch air size best, but had a go on a 14 inch, and that's comfortable too. Would never buy the 15 inch or 16 inch models.

It’s heresy in this group… get a cheap iPad if you want portability for surfing or emails at the coffee shop. Then combine it with sidecar beside your 16” MBP @ home.

Tech RU-vidrs stop it a computer is thousands of dollars a good computer should last 5 years preferably 7. You do not need an upgrade every year or two. The devices are appliances and end up in landfill stop wasting precious resources mined out of the earth.

I'm getting a 16 because of Battery Speakers cooling and screen size. Saving up for taxes ram and SSD upgrades before I buy one.

There are plenty of new technology based USB C chargers that are physically much smaller and weight less than Apple's. They my not be as powerful but they'll get you back runninng.

The heat sync on the m2 pro machines aren’t as good as the M1 Pro machines. They are cutting cost there to keep the price the same. Shame

For environmental preservation, why are we still not able to send our M1s back to them to swap the internals if it's the same design still? Boggles my mind.
