I now own a Mach 1 as of earlier this year. I owned a 2017 GT350 before, and prior to that a 2016 GT performance pack.. I got rid of my 350 at the time for more life reasons, but also the potential reliability issues scared me a bit (mine did go through a bit of oil, though that didn't bug me much). I miss the Voodoo sound and feel FOR SURE. I will say though, the 2018 updated Coyote revving to 7500 is still a treat. It's def a great engine which doesn't give me the reliability fears like the Voodoo did. The Mach 1 stock def has a good exhaust note, though I will be doing an xpipe resonator delete at some point. But seriously, that Voodoo sound.
@@mustangmike3830 alot of people don't have issues with then the problem is you hear about the people having issues online but nobody hears about the 1000s that don't have issues. The biggest thing is the oil consumption issues and people just drive these things and beat the shit out of them without checking their oil they think they can go 5000 miles between oil changes without ever checking it and this isn't the car for that. That imo is where many of the issues come from. I love the gt350. I would get a 19-20 if and when I decide to get one to put beside my 07 gt500. I love the stripe delete cars like this one they look so good
I love the mach1's but they are just a glorified gt with a few of the gt350's components. Shouldn't be costing 10k more then the actual shelby gt350 itself. And I own a 2004 mach1 which I know isn't much but I hope to own a gt350 someday.
I owned a 19 GT350 the sound and higher redline is incredible. The suspension now standard with the magnetic ride and the cooling upgrades. The suspension for the street is much more stiffer than the 21 Mach which I have with the handling pack. I truly miss the gt350 but needed to sell it at the time. The Mach 1 is fantastic and I find it better on public roads and mated to the Tremec the best coyote based stang. I will say that Voodoo sound is the best sounding Mustang on the planet. I was lucky to get the Mach 1 and if you enjoy handling a great buy. I understand while many will opt for a 1080r GT which out of the box is faster. Long term the Mach 1 will have a higher resale and the GT350 Gen 2 Voodooo will bring in serious money.
Out of the box its faster in a straight line. On a twisty road or a road course with a good driver rowing the gears that 10 speed is gonna have its hands full ecsp when that auto starts overheating.
@@midnight347 why would an automatic heat up faster than a manual? This is my first time hearing about this occurence. is it because of the more constant auto gear changes?
GT 350 is a time bomb with every mile you put on one. The mach 1 has a very reliable engine with more grunt down low. On the street the 350 feels slow. I’ve owned both and mach 1 all the way. The Recaros in the 350 are horrible. The leather Recaros in the mach feel much better. Not cheap looking like the 350. If you spend $60k get the premium model with the leather. I would NEVER buy a used 350 ever. That engine can only last so many 8500 rpms and eventually vibrate itself into oblivion. Buyer beware
The Mach is a gt with decals. You're one of those people who read others had problems and assume you're also going to have problems ignoring the 1000s who don't have issues. Their problems are over exaggerated. You just gotta keep a check on your oil this isn't the car for the hands off kind of person. The Mach 1 has a gt engine lol. It's a gt in a dress. The gt350 is way more special and it looks better to boot.
Great comparison thanks Bill. In my opinion, there is no better looking Mustang than the S550 GT350. period. Such a shame we never got them here in the UK, so i have to put up with my '17 GT.. I am a Gen 2 fan over the Gen 3.
@@xkimopye can you buy one and have it shipped? Rhd and Lhd I’ve seen doesn’t necessary matter over here in America,I’m not sure what legal issues there are tho, but since I’ve seen some Rhd cars here, that makes me believe that you guys can get them shipped
@@1000roentgens yeah you can technically do it but legally it is difficult, I think you have to live in America for 12 months to do a private import. There are companies that convert the cars to right hand drive, but they are incredibly expensive. A challenger would end up being 3-4 times more expensive than Americans get it. At that price point you would just get a supercar. A dodge demon for example ends up being $300,000usd
The Mach 1 has a steering shaft and EPAS calibration that’s different from the GT, because Ford was trying to make the Mach 1 more of a driver’s car. Right now aftermarket isn’t even selling those parts for the GT.
The Mach 1 has extremely lower production numbers compared to the 350. Mine is a window sticker Handling Package 700A Recaro manual car. So add rare on top of very rare. Most people do not want the Voodoos due to their problems and you get a ton more on the Mach 1 HP compared to a base 350. So yeah, the Mach 1 HP with Tremec will be more sought after than the 350 in years to come.
Had the GT350, engine blew. Took great care of the that car, oil/maintenance,etc. Dealership could not give me an estimate when they would get or be able to install a new engine, due to "COVID". Ended up with the Mach1 and haven't looked back. Not interested in the Darkhorse. I see GT350s, GT500s all the time here. I have not seen a Mach1, I know there are a couple around, but never see them. I have a feeling I'll see a bunch of the Darkhorses once it's out. Great comparison video!!
For the individuality I think the front bumper works for the Mach 1. If I had the money I would get both cars. Ppl saying it's a parts car they may be right/wrong. One thing I know it sounds like it was well put together you know kinda like a what if. On the contrary, We all the same as ppl right but under the hood our genetic coding is different. which can be said the same for both cars. The of car is made up of different parts borrow from the bullet, gt350, etc which makes it a awesome child i mean car.😅😄😄
I just traded my 19 PP2 in on a 10 speed Mach 1 - the cars aren't quite night and day difference, but you can feel a lot. And while I've seen stock 10 speeds go 11's - to go to MIR a couple weeks ago and go 11.90s at 117 is just insane. I know there is probably another tenth or so in it stock. Loving this machine! (Loved the PP2 as well). Ford did these cars well. And from what I have read - it's a different muffler than the GT. I do know aftermarket exhaust takes the GT 500
I know a lot of you tubers claim the GT350 FPC engine was the best ever Ford engine. So why did Ford discontinue the best engine.......and kept the second best engine?
Just because something is higher production doesn’t make it better. Are you saying a Toyota Camry is better than a Lamborghini Diablo? The Camry is in production and the Diable isn’t. Your logic makes no sense, nice try
Great video. I think you summed up the difference well. Even though the mach 1 has the ford performance exhaust (the same one you can get on a gt) it does sound different. I want to own a gt350 but i am a little scared about the reliability and i am coming from bmws lol. How has yours been? It also looks like i think the 18 or 19s have additional cooling upgrades and may also be better reliability wise any thoughts on that?
I have 50k miles on my 2018 350. No issues. Starting in 2017, all 350s got the tranny cooler, rear diff cooler and oil cooler. The tech pack 2015 and 2016 models, don’t have all the coolers.
I had a 16 without the additional coolers. I didn’t track it so it was a non issue. There’s nothing like the sound of the stock exhaust on these. I don’t know why people modify them. IMHO anyway
@@robertsole9970I have a 16 gt350 tech package since 2020 with 2k on her. Now she has 33k. No issues but never tracked. Driven hard though. Oil change every 3k
In the market for one of these two cars... my heart tells me to go with GT350, but my brain tells me to avoid any oil consumption issues that come with the 5.2 and get Mach 1. Decisions decisions....
Go with a 19 or 20 gen 2 voodoo they're much better. The oil consumption issues are highly over exaggerated. Just keep an eye on it and make sure your oil isn't low and keep up with maintenence. This isn't a drive it and forget it kind of car so if checking your oil more often is a deal breaker it's probably not the car for you. Imo it's 10x more special than the Mach 1. They didn't do enough with the engine on the Mach just slapped in a bullit powerplant which is just a regular gen 3 coyote with a gt350 intake. The Mach should have 12.5:1 compression, a factory cobra jet intake and should have been a cross plane 5.2 na version of the predator engine. Gt350 heads and Mach specidic cams and 525 hp would have really made this car as special as the gt350 was. I prefer the gt350 styling wise and for its unique engine. It's alot more unique compared to a normal gt vs a Mach just my .02
I can confirm the Mach 1 is louder than the GT in so much as I've literally had GT owners chase me down on the road and ask me what I did to the exhaust to make it so loud (I'm stock and it was in normal mode).
The 2022 Mach 1 from what I heard has some Carbon emissions filter thing in the intake that robs it of 10hp. It's easy to remove from what I saw on here.
@@cjponyparts That might have been where I saw it. I am torn between the Shelby GT350, Shelby GT500 and the new Mach One. As a pass Vette owner they all have there strong points but I am leaning towards a Mach One and boosting it.
Yep just did this today on my '22 Mach 1 and it sounds and feels just a little bit better than before. I've been following Tony's channel for a while now.
Do you realize how much better your average gearing is vs a 6 speed manual? Like I'm genuinely asking because I really don't think most 10 speed owners understand. They think they're alot quicker because they have an automatic. No it's because you have 10 gears and insanely aggressive gearing because of it. Look up an a10s average power throughout a run and compare that to the tremec 6 speed in the gt350 and it's average power through a run. It's not even close. It's really not a fair comparison at all. Try beating on that fancy 10 speed on a track for 30 minutes and see how that goes. These handling oriented cars shouldn't have an automatic in them. They are meant to rape the twisties not drag race.
The 5.0 is a more dependable engine and I do like the fact the Mach has low end torque. It's one thing I didn't like about my Boss 302. I'd have to rev it high to get power out of it. I come from GT500s where the torque is instant.
I have the automatic mach1 what I have seen on RU-vid I do not have the bells & whistles , with the automatic,, but that 10 speed is great animal , I love it
I think the march1 is a great value. The shelbys are better but comes at a steep cost. The March 1 gives a great handling base and you can ad as much power as you want. Probability with better reliability than a 5.2. Overall you're saying 20 ks so plenty of dough left to play and can easily overpower the 350.
The reason people don't like it is because the engine in particular isn't special enough it's a regular gt motor with a gt350 manifold same as outgoing bullit. Mach 1 deserves a much more special powerplant. They charge you way more for a mustang that is lacking far as having a special engine to live up to its name yet everyone rushes out and buys it for top dollar just because it's called a Mach 1. Those kind of people is the reason Ford does this crap. Im not saying it don't handle well I'm sure it does the gt350 and pp2 also handled well. The Mach has never even been a "track car" so I'm not sure why they tried to make it that to begin with. Same with the gt500. Everything Ford puts out they act like it has to be a track car and 95% of the owners never run them on a curvey track so you're paying a bunch of extra money for something most of the owners aren't even gonna really use. They should have put money into making the engine unique and worried little less about making it a "track car". It's too far off what the Mach always was imo.
@@midnight347 the mach 1 has never had a special power plant though. The late 60s early 70s mach 1s had 351w and a 428. Those engines were offered in many other fords at the time. Then the 03 mach 1 just had a regular 4v 4.6 that ford put in a lot of cars and suvs. And this new one fills the gap betweem the bullit and the gt350. And your point about most owners never tacking their mach 1 to a track could be applied to lots of cars. Most sports car and muscle car owners never track their car. Most jeep owners never take their jeeps off road. Most pick up truck owners never haul or pull anything. Sometimes people just buy a car or truck because they like it and there is nothing wrong with that. If you dont like the mach 1 thats ok but to be personnaly offended by it is a little ridiculous in my opinion.
Alot of you need to stop lying in the comment section when you talk about the Shelby GT350 and owning one but selling it because you were scared of engine issues. I have a 2019 and it's still covered under the 5 year 60k powertrain warranty if you keep it stock. So if you have a 2019-2020 why would you sell it. And it has a stronger block. And they make warranty extensions through the Ford protection plans. So I know a lot of you are full of $hit.
A good comparison...0-60 on automatic definitely goes to the Mach 1 with that lower torque and torque band...he doesn't cover the 10 spd though-just having options such as different transmissions and a handling pack was an improvement over the 350. Everyone always props up the GT350 sound, but I honestly prefer the Mach 1 as it is more muscle car/lower. The GT350 has an amazing unique sound though. Mach 1 got steering components from the 500 to try to mitigate tramlining so that might be the steering difference he mentioned.
The 10 speed is quicker because of gearing not because the Mach "has more torque" that torque don't hardly mean anything. A car meant for the track and the twistys should have a manual trans anyways that isn't a good environment for an auto to be in. It kind of defeats the purpose in having a "track car" if you're going to hinder it with an auto. Just learn to drive I mean...to me the gt350 is way more cool all the way around. The Mach 1 seems more like a loaded gt with a decal package and leftover gt350 parts. The 350 was a truly special car.
The Mustang is such a versatile car So many different versions it's mind blowing 😎 Having said that, the Brembo brakes are way overrated! They don't last any longer or perform any better. They get replaced all the time and they are not cheap, but the materials are...🤷
What I find interesting that no one talks about, is the fact that the stock MANUAL Mach 1 on the dyno makes 460 to the wheel, while rated at 480 hp by Ford. Also, the stock GT350 makes about 460 to the wheels while Ford says it makes 526 hp... kind of interesting. Auto Mach 1 makes 410 on dyno. Fact check me if you dont believe it. Ford may just be trying to protect the Shelby name, and replacing voodoo with a non-problematic motor.
You didn't mention what tires your buddy installed on the Mach1 and did he get them from you guys! Also the 10 speed is faster than a GT350! As a previous 2017 GT350 owner which I loved, I've got a Mach1 on order and I will probably change tire too! Did it on the GT350 made it much better daily driver!
I have Continental Extreme Contacts Summer only tires on the Mach 1 (one size up on the rear). I have bought tons of parts from CJ's over the last 35ish years for roughly 30 some cars including a few pieces for the 22. But they don't sell everything.
@@TonysFordsandMustangs Hey Tony, I took delivery about 10 days ago, I love it! I do have the handling package and I do want to change out the tires. Loved the video. I agree. As much as I'm going to be liking my GT in a few days (YAY!) I loooove the Mach 1! It's that unique entity in the 'stang lineup. Best parts out of the bin. Question for you, please? Is there a way to get a GT as close to a Mach 1 as possible? Just thinking ahead...
On the Mach 1- do you think it's worth the extra $, though? I'm right in that spot- I'm going to order a 2023 Mustang GT, but I LOVE the Mach 1. Curious if you think the extra pop in the Mach is worth the extra pop in my wallet? Great video. Loved it. Thanks.
@A C The 350 needs a driver that knows how to keep the RPMs up. ALso you're probably referring to Motortrend's apples to oranges comparison, yes apples to oranges....the mach 1 was running better tires. Same tires with Pro driver GT350 wins every time.
The Mach 1 front end looks phenomenal. However for the price it’s just not worth it over a GT. With a few grand you can raid the BMR or Steeda parts bin and be on a higher level with a bunch of saved money.
@@cjponyparts my ten speed 5.0 gaps supercharged vettes and i'm not even boasted. I am saying goodbye to my S550 ten speed Mustang for a S650 ten speed 5.0 Mustang. I am up there in milage but i'm also extremely excited for the fourth gen Coyote.
Agreed. When your engine blows in 10 years and the cost to replace it is 10s of thousands more than the 5.0 this debate becomes silly. Unless your main hobby is racing
I mean that is literally where all it's parts came from. All the suspension stuff and trans came from the gt350 and pp2 and the engine is basically a regular gt engine with a gt350 manifold aka same thing the bullit had so again another parts bin part. That is exactly what a Mach 1 is like it or not. It don't have anything special that makes it cool and puts it above the other special mustangs like the gt350 for example. It's a loaded gt with a decal kit and parts bin parts from various mustangs.
Lol. You obviously don’t know your mustangs with that ignorant comment bud. Not even close. This car is basically a gt350 with a 5.0 and similar ratings; not to mention it beat the gt350r in track times. I own one and can say it is a great car. Obviously the gt350 has the snake but the Mach 1 is no slouch off the factory floor.
@@noso4609 you obviously don't know shit. The R time that was used was from a 2016 R. The 19-20 R damping system was tweaked, so no the glorified PP2 is just that.
@@noso4609 why would it beat the gt350r in track times? It's basically set up the same way. Of course Ford is gonna say it performs better it's their newest special mustang and they're trying to sell it. They certainly ain't gonna say it performs worse than a gt350r even tho it probably does 99% of the time. That 1% being when Ford tests them. I think the gt350 was way more cool all the way around everything about it just exudes coolness while the Mach is essentially a glofied pp2 like op said. They even gave it wanna be boss 302 front grill lol.
I had a 2020 350 and while it was a great car but I want something off the line and just keeps going. So I went with a 2014 Shelby GT 500 bought with 6800 miles. The whole thing with the Mach 1 is that it has the Bullitt engine which i also had and was not happy with it. Even after doing a ton of engine upgrades still didn't impress me HP wise.
The parts bin thing is not the problem. one the tremec should come in all mustangs. dodge and chevy does. same price at a gt350 with out the special flat plane crank motor. gt 350 came with brembro on all four, mach1 just front. I really like the car .i Think the mach 1 track pack is awesome. Really want one. I think i can justifly 65k for a gt350 not a mach 1. Specially when a ss 1le is 15k cheaper and a zl1 1le is 10k more. Love your videos.! IF the standard mustang came with a tremec i would have one
As a Mach 1 owner I can nit pick certain things but I’m telling you this car is underrated. You could slap a cobra on this thing. Love the voodoos but that 5.0 sound is still amazing with the extras from the gt350 and 500. I got mine for 58k with the track pack and it was worth it! Add an x pipe and you completely change the tone to what you would think sounds similar to the voodoo. Great collector car. Will easily hold its value. Love all mustangs but the top three are Mach 1s gt350s and 500s for sure.
My thing is the engine just isn't unique enough. It's a regular 5.0 mustang with a gt350 manifold aka the bullit powerplant. If they'd gave it a cj 12.5:1 compression revised Mach specific cams and 525 horse but more torque than the gt350. If they'd gave it an engine like that that was unique to it like it should have it would have been much better. To me the engine is underwhelming they just threw a bunch of parts bin parts at it including the outgoing bullit engine. Imagine if the 03 Mach came with the 01 bullits 2v? It wouldn't have a special engine then. I mean it kind of is a loaded gt with decals and suspension hell you could get alot of that with the pp2 package. It's too much like a gt in the engine itself. I just don't think the engine is special enough for the Mach 1 name.
@@midnight347 I don’t disagree with you. Honestly, thinking about it I think ford got greedy and rushed it out; steering wheel etc is just plain Jane along with other mods etc they got cheap with. IMO I feel like they made it this way to manipulate the resale value. The GT350 and 500 have killer resale and the Mach 1 is not that good considering the upgrades besides the motor. Put a 5.2 and I feel the resale would be 10-15% more than what it is now or even more. Great points bud! Cheers.
Just drove a 2018 GT350, didn’t like it at all. The Mach1 sounds better, has the same Tremec manual transmission and the reliable coyote motor. I don’t think the Mach1 is worth past $60k though. I’ll keep my 2016 Mustang GT and mod it.

They come from the factory with 3:73 gears. The design of the 5.2 voodoo engine doesn't have a lot of low end power but there is plenty of power from 6000-8250rpm. They make excellent track cars but won't have the low end torque of the SS.

Ok, I relize you are very young. Stop calling a Mustang/Camero/Pony car a SPORTS CAR. They are not. American cars in the '60 n '70 could not corner or brake. A sports car was basically your British/ Italian 2 seat, 4cyl, roadster. A hardtop of maybe the same car was a GT car. Even a Shelby Mustang could not corner that well combared to a Sports Car. America cars back then we a Pony Car or Muscle car. A Pony car was not a Muscle car. We sport car drivers in the '60 n '70 called a Mustang a station wagon. The 240Z was also called a station wagon. It was all nose heavy and did not corner that well. OK ?
