+Daniel Santana right? You've seen hogans sit with Arsenio, right? The 15 minutes of Terry playing the victim, trying to set the record straight, tries his utmost to explain why he didn't do anything wrong. Just came off entirely different. I always respected macho for this - straight out admitted it, didn't run from it - and then used the opportunity to put out a positive message. I think Vince understood that... He recognized the value in having Randy as a leader and a spokesman.... If only he'd seen his value as a wrestler beyond 1994.
Better wrestler, better talker, better person, better person... He'd rather put new guys in wrestling over, instead of making them jobbers like Hogan would. Also, his "I'M NOT A RACIST!" comment... Seems like he knew something we didn't know at the time.
Don't get me wrong, Savage was a god on the mic, but I think WWE heavily scripting everything now really hurts their workers. Guys like Gallows and Anderson are legitimately witty and sharp as fuck, but they're not allowed to do anything but recite the dumbass lines creative has for them. If they let the wrestlers go out and get over, you'd see more stuff like this today.
oh yeah. it's okay for macho men to show every emotion available, oh yeah, you know, because i've cried a thousand times and i'm gonna cry a thousand more. Buuut! I've soared with the eagles and I've slithered with the snakes and I've been everywhere in between and I'm gonna tell you something right now: There's one guarantee in life and that's that there are no guarantees, yeah. AAAaannnnnd! understand this: nobody likes a quitter, nobody said life was easy so if you get knocked down, take the standing eight count, get back up, and fight again, then you're a Macho Maniac. Dig it!
I speak from experience when I say there’s nothing like rolling up in a 1985 Honda hatchback with spray painted flames on the front wheel wells, hood patched together with cardboard and duct tape, as you blast “get back” while waving Foodbank Slim Jim’s out the window. Savage don’t fear no man.
Man I play that on the beach every year I go for the 4th. Never fails to get everyone but the oldest folks into it (which is understandable, I'm 47 for the record).
A lot of professional athletes could learn from Macho. This is how you answer a question about steroids. He admits to using steroids and then promotes not doing them because they are poison. People gotta respect that.
"I've cried a thousand times, I'll cry a thousand more...BUT... I've soared with the eagles, I've slithered with the snakes and I've been everywhere inbetween, and I'm gonna tell you something right now. There's one guarantee in life, that there are no guarantees, yeah, AND, you gotta understand this, no body likes a quitter. Nobody said life was easy. So if you get knocked down, take the standing eight count, get back up and fight again."
+illuminatioracle as a kid i was also a fan of the hulkster more than savage. now as a grownup i love macho man's personality in ring performance much more than hogan .
I understand. I wasn't much into macho as a kid, i liked seeing him but wasnt a favorite. As age came about, looking back at older wrestling I was like how could I pass on this guy as a kid??
5:30 - This is why I always admire Savage more than Hogan, is the fact that he is honest about past steroid use and doesn't skirt around the issue at all.
He was honest enough to admit that he had done them in the past, but come on. Only a fool would believe he could maintain the physique he did for as long as he did from only "experimenting" with them in the past. He did them for most of his life, and for years after this interview. He was in character here and clearly speaking to the youth, so he was right to lie. He was being Macho Man Randy Savage, not Jewish-Italian American Randy Poffo from Ohio. The truth is that kids taking steroids will destroy their bodies and their lives. Steroids led Randy to an early grave. But for a superstar like Randy at the time he was in the business, they were a necessity. The average person using anabolics will never get a body like he had, but even with the best genetics you aren't going to get a body like he had without anabolics.
Having said that, he obviously worked his ass off, too. He was a natural athlete from a family of athletes, plus he spent hours everyday in the gym and always ate right. But yeah, he used steroids for decades, which gave him the incredible physique and career he had, but also gave him the enlarged heart that ended his life with a sudden heart attack at age 58. For every shortcut in life, there's a price to pay. He made MILLIONS and it still probably wasn't worth it. He should be alive today. Think about that if you ever consider using performance enhancing drugs. Odds are you will never come even close to being "Macho Man" but you will damage your organs and shorten your life just the same.
AND future steroid use. He used Steroids in 1998-2000 which made him huge again. Sadly, this is probably why he died. Had he never taken them again post-1992, he would still be here.
+Lukeor The Macho Man was one of the greatest athletes on the ring during that era of wrestling. it's not fair to put his ability behind promo and look
“It’s ok for Macho Men to show every emotion available right there, you know. I’ve cried a thousand times and I’m gonna cry some more”. That’s probably one the best advice you could give to kids. Especially from someone like Macho Man.
What was great about him. He was about that life, got down & dirty, and took no shit. But he wasn't about the small-dick posturing & toxic masculinity about how a man is *supposed* to be.. He was compassionate & intelligent. Good contrast is The Undertaker, saying all the current wrestlers are pussies because they play games & spend time looking pretty instead of the dudes he came up with who carried weapons, had to struggle to eat, and busted heads in bars. He's every bit the stereotype of a big meathead wrestler.
Especially since people of his generation helped push toxic masculinity, it definitely is beautiful to see someone tell young kids (and emotionally neglected adults)that it’s okay to cry and when you are showing pain and still fighting you’re stronger than before.
i had respect for Randy Savage before but him having the courage to admit to experimenting with steroids was a very brave thing to do. unlike some other wwe wrestlers that deny it i'll respect any wrestler that doesn't lie to his fans.
I met Randy Macho Man Savage in 2002 at Midway Airport while waiting for my sisters to get off work.Real nice guy and we took a picture and he gave me autograph.R.I.P Macho Man
This has become legendary to myself and friends, this is honestly extremely inspirational and it shows the heart and plain genius that was inside of Macho Man. He wasn't just a wrestler, he was a damn fine American.
Dawn Welch You make me feel like Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan. And I'm sure Rick Rude, Curt Hennig, and Andre the Giant want some of the Ultimate Warrior too.
We love both Randy Savage and Arsenio Hall. I always thought that Arsenio Hall had the best night time talk show. They need to reboot this show and bring it back please!
macho man is so cool! he didn't break character at all, but he still promoted himself, the company and displayed a positive message to the audience all while being himself st the same time
4:23 I respect this man. A great artist and showman who understood the values of passing on rock-solid principles for kids to base their lives around. And all told with his incredibly flamboyant... "madness." I genuinely love this interview in more ways than I can describe, so I'll leave it at that. Always stay realistic, but keep on being Macho Maniacs out there and chase your dreams.
Bootsy:: ya imma FunkItOnDer Bobba,With DaMachoMan, MachoMan:: OhhhhYeeeaaa Digg it, The space Bass got u in the Place to be, hmmm mm yea,Its Macho n Bootsy!
What an absolute legend in every way a born entertainer. Funny , entertaining , intelligent and a real strong role model with deep life affirmiming messages . Hes got it all ❤❤❤❤❤
I'm not even a wwe fan, but macho man randy savage was the fucking man. Flashy and fun to watch (even outside of wrestling), strong character, positive attitude, and just all around great guy. RIP
This video saved me at a real low point last year. I came back to it today and it saved me again. There are so many things I could say but I’ll leave it with a big thank you to the person that posted this and a bigger thank you to Randy 🙂
This guy was one of a kind. He had the complete package and it's hard to really compare him to anyone else. we lost a beautiful soul yesterday but i guess god needed another angel for his kingdom. Rest in peace macho man you will live in our hearts forever. OOOOOOOOH YEAHHHHH Dig it ^_^
Every single word, every finger motion, was fluid and second-nature. That is why no one can imitate him even now. Even Dan Soder can only do the voice, not the entire presentation.
the fact he never broke character and had the public think this was all he had was genius.....he was so much more than the macho character but the public never saw it that's why he's a GOD in the profession that he chose
Savage was the fucking man, great wrestler and a great personality, that little message about "crying a thousand times" is something we all need from time to time. R.I.P Mach' you are dearly missed, dig it! 💔🕊
This is why he’s the greatest of all time…… what a real man to stand there and admit he took steroids but had enough class to tell people the truth and not to do it
i quit watching WWF when i was like 11 years old but Macho (and Snake) was one of the very good childhood memories that i like to carry with me. RIP Randy Poffo, riposa in pace paisa'
Macho already rocking the nWo black and white! Damn wrestling was so damn awesome in the 80s and 90s. Macho and Warrior were a few of my favorites. RIP to the Macho King and the Ultimate Warrior.
Omg this guy knew how to work a crowd and play his gimic right. I just love the sincerity and commitment to an admittedly ridiculous character. Well done
I don't give a damn about what "happened" how can the wwwf/wwf/wwe have a H.O.F without this man? easily THE most charismatic man in wrestling history bar none!!! OOOOOH YEAH!
FacelessDeviant You know his brother gave them permission to induct him right. It might go against his wishes but I think his brother did it for the fans.
The Genius has said that Randy didn't want to go in the H.O.F unless Lanny (The Genius) and their dad Dangerous Angelo went in with him, Randy was all about the fans I doubt he said that, but that's what Lanny claims!
right, how come 80's and 90's wwe wrestlers had interesting wrestling personas compared to now(there a few young inter. characters currently)? where they given more freedom with their characters in that time, what do you think?
He really embraced that character and it's brilliant. The character is a perfect role model for young kids. Yeah you can cry, but no one likes a whiner, dust yourself off, get up and carry on. I was always more into Macho Man than Hulk Hogan.
Every time I used to watch him wrestle as a kid, I would try to imitate his voice. My throat would hurt from trying to sound like him haha. Oh...Yeah....Brother.........
