I always loved Mack trucks...just an all around good, durable, & reliable work horse. I have driven many in my 27 yrs of driving. Mack trucks have come along way in the years from the B-models, the R-models, the RD models, the CH models & the Vision models.
I drove mack off road for nine years and loved every minute of it miss it a lot after the lay off thanks to Obama. Mack is a great truck. No other compares. Thanks. Herman greer
I've driven a 13 so long; this just would confuse the hell out of me. It's like trying to drive a super 10 after you've driven a straight 10 for years.
There are many types of thirteen speeds...dont know which you mean...basically, it is a five speed main box and you split every gear. Back and to the left is third and fourth, or 1L and 1H (in this position, there is also a two speed deep reduction, which is first and second). forward and middle is fifth and sixth, or 2L and 2H, and so on following the standard H pattern
For example, with a 5+2, you go through all five gears, go into the high range on the axle, downshift back into fourth and work back up to fifth. Same with nine- and ten-speeds. Up to ninth or tenth, split and go back into the previous gear.
I drove 2 kinds. The one had the compound lolo on a separate lever that locked the main in 1st. The other had it on a valve in the dash and did the same thing. Both could be split in lolo.
I don't know a lot about US trucks expect from American Truck Simulator.. I drive a Mack R series with a maxitorque 12 speed transmission.. I've made a shifter with range and splitter buttons. My question is : when you pass from e.g : 1D to 1H does it work when you release the gas pedal or when you release the clutch pedal? Because as I notice in some videos with an Eaton Fuller 18 speed you pass from 1L to 1H when you release the gas.. Is it different with a Mack?
When shifting a transmission like that, the 12 speed Mack, or a 13/18 speed Eaton, or an Eaton super 10 speed, you can shift either way. However, in a heavy load up hill I would both let off the gas pedal and use the clutch, it will shift faster. The when you get more speed up just move the shifter button, release the gas and it should shift. Unless you are down shifting. In that case, as well as up shifting hold the gas pedal down, move the button/lever/switch (whatever it uses) then up shift just release the gas and let it shift, to down shift, release, then immediately put he gas pedal back down, and the transmission should down shift. I hope this helps. I have driven tucks with many different transmissions, and combinations. 5&4, 5 & 3 , 4 & 4. As well as a 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, and 18. Have a wonderful day
Don't get it, on a second level has only 5 & 6 gear (9,10 & 11,12) ???? I must say that this is the first time I see this kind of transmission...so unusual!
+Stelian Nistor European transmissions are fully syncronized like a car. To use our transmissions would require you to use the clutch twice for every shift. I have driven european trucks, Volvos and Mercedes.
+Marcus Talley Mercedes transmissions are piece of cake,MAN truck's are pretty tricky... Volvo the old one's use to be kind of bad if u didn't know the truck scania starting with the R model have the best set up manual and smg in the same time plus the v8 at over 600 hp make the driving a pure pleasure.
If you need to clutch every shift. You should stay in a car. Clutches are for first and reverse. No tach needed. Listen and feel. Woo her and she'll take care of you.
