I've always said Steven A Smith is an idiot, I could see that he is bias. I am a Raptor's fan and I can acknowledge both teams played well and the game should have been a classic game for both teams except the foul calls were lopsided and you can't tell me the Lakers were more aggressive than the Raptors. The Raptors had more field goals, more 3's and more points in the paint, so don't tell me the Lakers were more aggressive.

The mental gymnastics Stephen A has to jump through to downplay this is impressive. The Raptors had to foul intentionally because there were 2-3 non-calls that prevented them from staying in the game. The Lakers were attacking the basket? Sure, but Raptors were attacking the basket more; 20 more points in the paint than the Lakers. BEFORE the series of fouls on Davis very late in the game, the Lakers were awarded 17 Free Throws; the Raptors, 2. The Raptors scored 70 points in the paint, the Lakers had 50, which means that Toronto was much more aggressive and therefore should have had more fouls called in its favor.

It wasn’t as big a discrepancy, but no one was saying anything when the Nuggets ended up being 25/29 on free throws @ Warriors who were 13/14… Nuggets won with a buzzer beater by Jokic, but they should not have won that game. Yes, the Warriors did play bad defense and blew a lead, but they would have been able to hang on, but Jokic was flailing, which isn’t “flopping”, still - baiting fouls and manipulating refs whistles to slow the game down, stop the clock, and get easy points. It’s trash the league allows this kind of play… but people only complain when it’s a team like the Lakers that the rest of the NBA hates… but when it’s the Nuggets, it goes under the radar and everyone just assumes the Warriors fouled too much and deserved to lose… If you actually watch the game, you’d see the inconsistency on calls, where Looney and Trace Jackson-Davis weren’t getting whistles for the same exact contact the Nuggets would do to them, yet Jokic and Gordon got whistles all day long… And on top of that in that game, the Nuggets were the Away team… You would think the game would be called a little more fairly for the home team, but “Home whistle” was definitely not a thing for the Warriors.

it is not just about the numbers when it comes to the foul discrepancies. the eye test shows clearly how INCONSISTENT the refs call fouls, particularly around the lakers (and used to be the warriors). i don't know about the nba as a league being rigged, but i can definitely see how refs could be purposely influencing game outcomes due to betting and favorites. that called offensive foul at the end is a great example - ad flopped as blatantly as lebron does. the lakers do flop more than any team, hands down. there are definitely other players that flop consistently (joel, luka, etc), but as a team, the lakers are the goat floppers.
