Madame de Pompadour is arguably the most influential mistress en titre or principal mistress in history. She held not only the love of a king and also his trust. She was also a shrewd investor in realty estate and didn't really care for jewels. Many resented her influence. Louis XV shut himself in his rooms after her death.
@@maryettamoody5079 Madame de Maintenon didn't need to keep a bordel like Madame of Pompadour for fear of rivals and not only did she manages to get to stop his adultery, she also manages to get him married to her,Madame de Maintenon survived stuff that would make any other fall into disgrace like the whole St.Cry School debacle that turned into a huge national scandal.

I watched this a second time to make sure, but isn't the palace with all the gold statues shown at the 5min 25 sec mark Peter the Great's palace near the Baltic? I know he modeled it on Versailles, but it's not Versailles. Can you confirm? Thanks
Yes you're right Patricia, they have Versaille all mixed up with other views! I'm going there in June so you'll be able to see some new footage on my return.
I had heard that she kept her position as Louis X 's friend by providing him with mistresses who were not as intelligent as she was, and therefore would be no threat to her position at court. I don't know how true this is.
@@HistoryRoadshow It could have just been propaganda from her enemies, which has become an accepted "truth". Because it was well known that Louis XV had a high libido and needed someone in his bed nearly every night, which could led people to believe that would have been the only way she could keep her position. It would be interesting someday if you could do a video on Madame Du Barry, Louis XV's mistress at the end of his reign, after Pompadour's death.
Yes there young girls who became mistresses to Louis XV after Madame de Pompadour stop sleeping with him. They were called the Parc-aux-Cerfs. One of them was Marie Louise O Murphy. She may have been the model for The Blonde Odalisque painting by Francis Boucher.
I enjoyed the story of Madame De Pompadour , I read somewhere that King Louis didn't like illness in his favourites , was that because he was frightened of catching something or because they were no longer able to entertain him if you know what I mean ( bed partners) ?
