This is an unusual video for me. Instead of talking about famous magicians in history, I decided to share my personal thoughts on magic as a unique gift that can help us be happier and a tool that can help us battle depression.
Starting magic for the first time at 23 and feeling behind so your videos have informed me on so much. Thanks for your content man it's done really well
Thanks, I am so happy and humbled to hear that you like my content. And don't feel behind, you are young and have a lifetime of magic in front of you ;)
Thank you for that video! Great subject to talk about. Academics also had a look into it. For example Greengross et al. looked at the statistical correlations of magicians and mental illnesses in "Psychotic and autistic traits among magicians and their relationship with creative beliefs" and Wiseman wrote a whole article of the effect of magic on different kinds of wellbeing in "Achieving the impossible: a review of magic-based interventions and their effects on wellbeing"
I suffer from seasonal depression and I can 100% confirm if it was not for magic, I would have killed myself a long time ago. In addition to practice and performance, for me being part of The Magician's Book Club and having to read required reading for the week in order to discuss it next Sunday is what often gave me a sense of meaning, responsibility and community.
Thank you so much for sharing this, your comment really means a lot to me. Feel free to drop me a message romanoffmagic@gmail.com if you'd like to connect and chat :)
