for a bit of context missing for Switcharoo, it swapped STATS originally, so the health part wasn't relevant, furthermore it really was a low counterplay deck that could kill on 4 if it didn't draw the 2 dead cards.

You can tell Cimo is a gamer who would be good at whatever card game he played, he can just instantly tell how to break everything

23:06 I think the important thing to remember about mana reduction in HS as opposed to MTG is that cards can very easily go to 0 mana. In MTG you still usually have to spend at least 1 colored mana to cast spells with cost reduction, in HS you can stack these effects and just dump your hand for free.

The fact tome tampering could've litterally been 3 mana "discard your hand' and it'd still be good is really funny

Kinda missed out on mentioning how Soul Stealer basically lead to a rule change where "Costs health instead of mana" didn't count as dealing damage anymore so you would actually lose health even with demon seed or immune effects, and it wouldn't count for completing the quest either.

The problem with Clergy was that Wild has like 20 cards that heal for 0 or 1 mana. Funnel Cake just pushed it over the top so you could go off as early as turn 2-3

IT WAS DRUID AND WARLOCK FAULT RARRAN, dh is ass in wild (Mill druid was tier 1 close to tier 0, warlock was just very annoying) Another corretion. Tome tampering was good in discard warlock but what made the deck broken was cataclysm. Tome tampering was broken in mecha'thun warlock

You can just really see how many unhinged FTK strats Yugioh has when Cimo can reason out the exact uses for how a card enables a broken OTK and still says "Nah it's still not strong enough it's not banned."

This really should've been either "banned or nerfed," or show them the most powerful version of the card. Or shown another card for context to why it (might be) powerful when first showing off the card instead of after they have decided.

Crazy thing with Switcheroo is that wasn't the original version. Originally, it just swapped their stats so you didn't even need the Inner Fire.

Test Subject brought back strong memories. Watching dogdog play the Test Subject deck in Standard was some of the absolute most fun I've ever had watching people play an HS deck. The APM was nuts.

I still vividly remember a Tavern Brawl years ago where they gave everyone an un-nerfed Dreadsteed. I did cast Defile on it a few times, and I do think the animations were capped.

There is a cap of 30 on all of Hearthstone's potentially infinite loops. Even without Dreadsteed, defile can activate 30 times with Grim Patron. Edit: It seems I was mistaken, the amount of times an infinite loop card can trigger depends on the card.

As a 15 year magic player who stopped playing hearthstone in 2016-17 this was a treat.

I remember when stealer of souls was banned in wild before the release of the demon seed and how broken it was when you played it on 4 and slapped mal'ganis on the same turn to make yourself immune and go through your entire deck :') It was fun when you were the one doing the combo, but it was not fun when you were on the receiving end lmao

13:48 it was consistent for a couple of reasons. The first was minimal, but sphere of sapience allowed to to put 4 cards on the bottom of your deck to stop you from draw the combo minions. Priest also has illuminate, shadow essence and thrive in the shadows to find and even discount switcheroo. It was as if you had 8 copies of switcheroo in your deck. It also had a couple ways to double the charging boar, divine spirit and vivid nightmare

As someone who's been on the receiving end of a Gadgetzan Auctioneer Turbo turn, I can say with certainty that the knee-jerk reaction to ban it is understandable.

Defile has actually always had a limit of 14 iterations, I've tested that when the card released using Grim Patron

Wasn't stealer of souls the reason they changed the way health as a cost interacts with self damage effects?

There is a defile cap, 14, and it was still possible to hit it in the same "infinite" way as dreadsteed, just using Grim patron instead. Dreadsteed was "nerfed" to fix an issue that never existed, because it wouldn't have seen play anyway, and even if it did, Defile's cap prevented it from being an issue in the first place.

Rarran forgot to mention that Switcheroo was altered, THEN banned. Originally Switcheroo used to say "Draw two minions, swap their stats" where you wouldn't even need Inner Fire. And because of wild, Blizzard then changed it to "Swap their health". But because the card was still fundamentally too OP because of Inner Fire, they had to ban Switcheroo outright Rarran Hearthstone, you DO NOT "know Hearthstone"

It's interesting because for dreadsteed, there's a similar interaction with defile you can set up with grim patron. It's a lot more set up, but there was already an internally coded hard limit of I think 14 repetitions.

Two things, the fact that Rarran is now able to accurately point out that the existence of handtraps is what makes switcheroo not threatening from a YGO player's perspective is remarkable, getting to know the game has definitely enriched his interactions with YGO player-guests upped the quality of the content and the fact that Cimo was able to pretty much deduce the use case of that card from what little context he was provided with is flat out spooky.

Cimo says Dreadsteed is "whatever" when there's treeborn frog and cannon soldier as if they didn't see play. It's definitely bad now though

The primary issue of “design for the person playing the card” lies in the fact that if nobody is willing to be your opponent BECAUSE of what you’re playing, you don’t get to play your card. This is a way that games lose customers.

Even with "once per turn", a Yu Gi Oh Turn lasts 15 minutes at least, and a match lasts an average of 2 turns.

So, CGB said in regards to Mechwarper that "there's so many magic cards like this that are, like, fine" but that's not really true, because cost reducers typically only affect colorless mana, so you rarely get free creatures. If MTG had a 2/3 artifact creature for 2 that said "artifact creatures you play cost 1 less to cast" that would be very powerful; basically a go-wide version of Affinity, and we all know how Affinity was.

10:50 switcheroo is also a magic card. It swaps control of two creatures for 5 mana. It’s also really gimmicky. Also, if Dreadsteed was printed into magic with the first wording, it would be a combo piece for any number of free sacrifice outlets.
