50 moves rule is a handicap in Blitz format for white in this endgames, IMO.

Very very hard to win by the looks of it. I'm not surprised... one small error, or anything other than the perfect mating sequence will result in failure. Yeah it feels crappy because you're losing with a queen vs rook, but it doesn't look too bad seeing as how black just has to hold on for a bit.

I guess Nepo didn't watch my tutorial, which would have made this win very easy.

Come'n Queen vs Rook is so tricky. It is so hard to win against Stockfish having a limited time. Actually, It is hard even if you have unlimited time. It has a lot of stalemate traps. But You can do it with about ~25 moves if you know the algorithm of how to do it against stockfish 13 , I think any player ranked over 2000 should know it by heart.

That's a standard endgame trick. Study endgames.

Nepo just has to go back to endgame practice sessions , same intensive very hard Russian chess school sessions he had when he was 12 y.o.and brush his endgames. You hardly ever see top GM failing to convert Q vs R , especially when player has increment. When player has 10 seconds on clock without increment, yes, he just has to take the rook, king takes queen and this is draw. It happened to me in local tournament. I had Q v R, I had less than 30 sec on clock and even though we had 2 sec increment I didnt even try to squeeze win out of it. I just took his rook, he took my queen and we shook hands. Did not want to lose by time, he had more than 2 minutes. But this was of course amateur play, both blayers below 2000 rating.
