@@bobzombie2710 any promotion in that case leads to a draw and I think that Magnus has made it quite clear that he literally doesn't care. But that's not for me to say. Magnus throughout his career has gotten his fair share of criticism of his behaviour under certain circumstances. But as you say, I think it is quite inappropriate for some people if you start laughing because someone made a blunder for example, in a winning position, that ended up with a draw instead. You sit quiet, shake hands and analyze the game for a short time afterwards. It's sportslike conduct but sometimes human emotions gets the better of you and Magnus has recieved critcizm for that during the years because he sometimes verbalizes his frustration.

Stockfish does so specifically to reduce the number of lines it has to calculate, which in turn allows those lines to go deeper. In this instance though, SF would actually go for a queen because that's the only piece where the endgame is theoretically winning. i.e. with h1=Q there exist two lines (Kg3, Kf2) that are winning. In a regular situation where a piece gets taken immediately, computing effort is more valuable than the off chance of your opponent being hilariously stupid.

The promotion is likely a queen because if for some reason it's not taken, it'll lead to a winning endgame instead of a draw, just like how stockfish will delay mate as long as possible hoping the opponent blunders. This isn't something seen in the lines, but the hard-coded things that reduce computation time.

Consider black king on a1. White king on c2 blocks Ka2 and Kb2. White bishop attacks the king on a1. Normally black king escapes to b1, but if a black knight is sitting on that tile... As long as checkmate is theoretically possible the game is not drawn.
