Magnus' nervers are something else. I think Kramnik talked about it. He said something to the effect of Magnus may have strongest nervous system of all the players. It can be such a deciding factor in crunch situations.
@kylezo
@kylezo Год назад
I think it's hard to judge. if he was up against someone consistently stronger than him and closer to the #5 player, then we could see how his nerves hold up. As it is, he's confident because there's not such a challenge present and his track record proves that. he doesn't have to rely on having hard nerves in the same way that his challengers do, and certainly not to the same degree. not by a long shot. i would assume he blew past that when his brain was developing as a teenager and he was already crushing. then again, maybe the nerves helped him develop his skill with the game. pretty chicken and egg. there's also the idea that he sort of doesn't care about chess that much, as evidenced by his dipping into poker and dipping out of chess and all that stuff. it's clear that he doesn't take the game over-seriously - meaning like he obviously takes it seriously, but not *too* seriously - and I'm sure that helps a ton in quelling nerves as well, not having your entire worldview or self-worth tied up in the game if it's the center of your life, etc.

@@naturalmessmessy3460 Yes, and now we can clearly see his nerves. I really feel heartbroken for him he just lost his mom and now he lost to mvl after such an amazing battle he just literally outplayed him but in the games he was winning he made some minor mistakes which were completely non understandable and very uncharacteristic of magnus same with alireza in cct finals also he blundered his queen against nodirbek lost classical for the first time from pragg and also from many low rated players like 2400-2600 they held draw and also won against Carlson so i believe honestly he is pretty much on his downfall and he is far away from his prime even though he always strikes back and shows us why he is still the no 1 but yk it doesn't feels the same as before even though I won't be surprised that after this loss he wins the crunchlabs masters but after 2-3 years I believe he will loose a lot of ratings... Let's hope for the best, though.

This is a case study in both how to play a fantastic end game and alternately how NOT to announce it. Too many chess announcers feel compelled to stream of thought shout out potential moves in an effort to be first one to mention a move. The end result is a wonderful end game being a little less so for the viewer and a lot more frustrating. It would be analogous to Bob Costas having the camera switch to him as he shows us on a white board all the possible outcomes, meanwhile the game winning goal is scored off camera.

Agreed they just keep cutting each other off and I find it SO annoying how they keep going back to stockfish. "Omg it was a blunder" but bro you just looked at stockfish...you didn't know it was a blunder at all until stockfish evaluated it as such. I much prefer having grandmasters and IMs commentate on the game, give their live analysis on potential moves and also analysis on why moves are played. That's why Gothamchess is the GOAT in chess commentary because he knows how to explain the thought process behind moves and why some moves are better than others. Chess is the one of the few games where we can get into the mind of these super players. And stop cutting away to shitty analysis
