Hoping you check your old vids 😂 After 6 years, how satisfied are you with doing this mod? I have a 700 XCRII chambered in 300 Win Mag and would like to do this mod with the Magpull kit (instead of HS Precision which is drop-in but 370USD). I'm a little nervous about cutting into my stock on this expensive rifle though!
Overall I'm very happy with it. The magazines function flawlessly and I've tried steel AI brand magazines, Magpul AICS and MDT AICS magazines. The only thing that would have made it better was if I was a little more careful cutting out the stock so that the inlet matched better. That is aesthetic only and doesn't affect the performance. After running it for a couple years as shown above, I switched that barreled action into an AI AT Chassis and I currently have a Bergara rimfire barreled action in this stock. It has also worked great and I have had zero feeding issues with it. I have read that the mag pull bottom metal you installed should fit in a bdl stock no problem or very little fitting. I was planning on doing same project to my 6.5 but glad I saw this first. Do you think getting a bell and Carson stock with the m5 bottom metal fitting would fit magpul bottom metal better?
I haven't ever handled or used the M5 bottom metal so I don't know for sure. It should be more square towards the front, which is where I had to do a lot of the fitting. I don't know if it would be a drop in fit, but I think it would be a lot closer than the BDL style floor plate that I replaced.
+Dan Petty I have considered bedding around it, but I'm concerned that with all the little angles that it would be easy to mechanically lock the bottom metal in place. I will definitely plan on making a video if I do.
Unfortunately I did not, it was definitely an involved process. The best advice I could give is to go slow and check the fit of the parts often to help avoid removing extra material.
