Landspace just gave an official statement saying the vernier engines on the second stage performed abnormally resulting in the lose of the rocket and satellites, but that the methalox fueled first and second stage engines (the most interesting parts of the rocket) worked normally! Hope the next launch goes smoothly!

Zhuque-2, if successful this month, could potentially replace the role of some Long March 2/3/4 rockets. If not, try a second shot which has been ready.

Thanks for the detailed and professional reporting of the Chinese space industry. It's increasingly difficult to get information on space industry developments in China these days.
@NEVERSTOPFKUSA
@NEVERSTOPFKUSA Год назад
Extreme difficult? not really, if you can read Chinese. The info is open/transparent to public, otherwise, why DFH could reference those video clips and articles? but if you mean finding subjective report from western media without crooked info or biased report, then I can't agree more.

As far as I'm concerned, info on China's space development is readily available as long as you read Chinese. Apparently the English press is not interested. Basically only news on NASA and SpaceX attract them. "Increasingly difficult to get information on" anything Chinese is an arrogant narrative on China.

Thanking you so much for put together the contents! I am always very curious about Landspace's liquid rocket. Its configuration is very similar as the old Long March-2C rocket: first stage with 4 engines, and second stage with 1 engine and vernier thursters. Also it's current configuration is very hard for vertical landing, unless they can magically throttling their first stage engines to

Ah yes! Zhuque-2. It'll be the first of the true first-gen Chinese commercial private sector designed rockets, rather than various modifications of solid propellant rocket designs loaned from past CNSA programmes. Honestly, I'm most excited for their reusability development. They've been quiet on that front, so I'm curious whether they'll venture into the tether method proposed by the CNSA, or whether they'll stick with landing-legs as with other commercial companies.
@astastya5881
@astastya5881 Год назад
casc has reviewed the landing legs as well as shown in several piece of paper (and the proposal of cz8r which is probably abandoned now). The tether method is developed specificly for larger launch vehicles such as cz5zrl.

@DongfangHour
@DongfangHour Год назад
I agree that this version of the ZQ-2 is a little bit underwhelming compared to the reusable projects currently being prepared by companies like iSpace & Galactic Energy. The advantage for Landspace though is that their rocket will be operational sooner (if the maiden launch goes well). This may help them grab market shares early and get a fresh flow of money... 🤔

@JuteTwine
@JuteTwine Год назад
Why is Landspace building a methlox rocket? Are they, too, planning to go to Mars? SpaceX expects to make propellants on Mars for Starship's return flights, so methane makes sense for them. (This doesn't really explain why the Starship booster has methalox engines, but maybe that's a matter of economies of scale.) Landspace has built a relatively small rocket with a low payload capacity. So, what's the point of methalox?
@DongfangHour
@DongfangHour Год назад
There are other advantages to methane. For one, it burns cleaner than kerosene and that's why it is considered by some companies to be more suitable for reusability (Rocket Lab is a good example with their Neutron rocket).
