Regarding the waterslide decal paper.... really curious to know how it works out for you. I recently though about trying it for a 19" frontpanel, but haven't had the chance to use it. So I hope to see in show up in a video somewhere :D And as always... nice haul!

LOL I was about to say this new bench is getting as messy as the old bench.

The funny thing about cork from China...most of it is Spanish or Portuguese cork which has been further processed there.

2:14 - About those Dupont connector sets. Beware of the MALE ones, which are made by folding the clip into a U shape, as they often have badly formed "pins". I recently bought a whole heap of them (in various lengths) and the cut edges of the male pins had extreme burrs and were also much wider (0.7 to 0.8 mm) than normal (0.5 to 0.6mm). ... The upshot is that they are very difficult to insert into either breadboard or a female header, and they absolutely scratch the hell out of the female connector part, bad enough to damage the plating! I just spent a few nights watching RU-vid while squishing each pin with parallel pliers, then removing the burrs with a fine diamond file. ... For breadboarding, the round pin jumpers are much better than Duponts. The round ones also usually have bad burrs on the pointy end, but it's heaps easier to rectify by filing it into a tapered cone shape.

When making my own cables, I find it difficult to keep the male pins straight when making a crimp. Almost as easy to place long square pins in the breadboard, then use female jumps. Soldering a small stranded wire neatly to the top of a square pin is a little annoying. 26awg fine-stranded silicone wire is wonderful for making high-use connectors. There exists silicone 1.27mm pitch ribbon cable (28awg?), ostensibly for low temp outdoor LED wiring.

@@GnuReligion - I am about to invest in a couple of hundred gold plated "round pin headers" which are the same design as "turned pin" IC sockets but with male pins top and bottom. Make sure to check the pin length carefully, as they make short ones that fit perfectly in IC sockets but aren't long enough for breadboards. Then I will solder silicone cables like you mentioned ... at the moment you can get 5m (~15ft) of 26AWG 0.08mm stranded silicon colored cable for just over USD $1.20. That should make the best jumpers ever, and I can kill off the DuPont cheapies.

Yeah I might need to try other things. Sometimes I struggle to insert one so I just get another until one works. Maybe I'll look at them and see if they can use a touch up. I have some of the round pin ones somewhere under a pile of other things I need to dig up.

@@johncoops6897 My 12mm M-M round pins have a long skinny side (0.5mm dia, chamfered base) and a stubbier side (0.6mm dia, stepped base) that mates well with female turned pins. Only the long side sticks in a breadboard, and it is oh-so-slightly too thin. Wish it were longer too. She said. Am ashamed to admit this: Have crimped female DuPont connectors on a wire, then soldered in a square pin, to make a perfectly straight breadboard connectors. This is too much trouble though. Surely there exists some kind of ferrule to simplify the operation.

@@GnuReligion - we are searching for exactly the same thing! Let's make a startup, my brother! I have noticed that one of my crimping pliers creates that "bent pin" crimp with Duponts. It might be the SN28 but could be another pair that I bought for Molex Jr used in PC wiring. Anyway, I just bought 3 sets of new jaws designed for JST and spade (utilux) that don't have the step in the jaw on the other side from the UU jaw. The step is needed for Dupont females so they fit nicely in tbe housing, but this might fix the bending problem for the males. It's a pity I can't find a male-pin tubular crimp like those ferrule things that use 6-way jaws, as I use those on all my terminal blocks and they are awesome (but much too fat for breadboard).

I thought the same. Wonder if anyone besides me likes to use those hardware store brass cleaning brushes for 99 cent to scrape soldering tips.

I think Les Paul is pronounced like Wes and not like the French word. I'm not a guitar player though!
