Trump is not some wild aberration. His presidency was supposed to be the culmination of _decades_ of right wing propaganda, deregulation, and gutting of public services to solidify authoritarian rule by capitalist and theocratic oligarchs. Honestly, it's bad enough that it'll still be an issue even if Democrats win the white house and a supermajority in congress, because the conservatives were able to gain a lot of control over an openly corrupt judiciary and both parties continue to cater to the wealthy and powerful with thier policy while paying lip service to the common people. But I digress. Point is, view Trump's time in the sun as a symptom of our nation's disease rather than the cause of it and the insanity suddenly becomes easily-understood.

The polls are not accurate. In 2022 there was supposed to be some red wave. It didn't happen. All of trumps candidates for governor and senator lost their races in swing states. Only reason the gop won the house was because they managed to flip three seats in New York. George Santos was one of them and he's been expelled. A Democrat won the election to replace him.

Americans have had time to see the horrors that can happen to women when they cannot have reproductive health care. No one forces a woman to have an abortion, but a woman who needs one for whatever her reasons are, should be allowed one. All healthcare issues should be between a patient and her doctor.

As for the Ashley shower thing... I mean sure, that's a little weird and the situation should have been handled better by Joe Biden, but endorsing Jeffrey Epstein is way, WAY worse than showering with a relative. I used to shower with my parents as a kid because they wanted me to get used to and comfortable with taking showers, and it's entirely possible that Joe Biden did something similar here. But endorsing a man who was convicted of trafficking and molesting children is INFINITELY worse than being a little weird about showering.

One additional problem is that young doctors are not choosing specialties in OB/GYN and that OB/GYNs in poor states were these medieval laws are being enacted are moving their practices elsewhere. In a short time, there will be a dozen or so states where most women get no prenatal care and babies are being delivered by unqualified doctors or by paramedics in the backs of ambulances.
