How do you utilize your slow cookers in the summer? I find that I appreciate them even more in the warmer months, and I've discovered how to make some surprising things in my crockpots! :)

I have a mini crockpot I use to reheat all sorts of things, like pre-made pulled pork, or walking taco/chili mix. I actually take the little one camping ALL the time and it works great at an electric site.

I use my slow cooker a few times a week, the entire year long. It helps big time during the school year since we homeschool! I love using it during the hotter months, it keeps my kitchen much cooler than using the stove or cooktop. I love using it in the winter for heartier meals like roasts, soups, chili that get better the longer they cook. My crock is my best kitchen friend. And I am unashamed to say: I have 5 large quart + 2 small party crocks.

I just found your channel a few weeks ago, and I can't thank you enough. I'm a college student who is really new at budgeting and making consistent meals for myself. The budgeting videos you made have been incredibly helpful to me for understanding how to actually grocery shop. I know how to cook, but I never really learned to do it consistently. We make a ham in one crockpot, a boneless turkey breast in a second crockpot, and use the instapot for mashed potatoes. That frees the oven for roasted veggies, baking rolls and other sides.

I make stews in our crockpot. I put everything in raw, set it to low, and by the time we get back home from work 8 hours later we have stew ready to eat for dinner. I use the plastic crockpot liners to make clean up a breeze, too.

I also have multiple slow cookers to do different things, they are very handy. I use my slow cookers year around, putting them away in the summer months confuses me, what better way to keep the kitchen cook and be hands off while making a great meal for your family. Some of our favorites are soups, stews, BBQ, seasoned chicken, pot roast (that is made into sandwiches, burritos, or omelets), lazy lasagna, italian sausages with peppers and onion, steel cut oatmeal with apples & cinnamon. I will definitely being trying the mashed potatoes, we live near a potato farm and get the best fresh potatoes, I want to make them in a larger quantity & freeze them for the nights that I am tired or rushed. Love these videos and the ideas that you inspire.

You’re not crazy - I have 4 Crockpots - including a size not even made any more (1 quart) I received as a wedding present 40+ years ago (yes, it still works). I also own a large, non- electric stovetop pressure cooker (several years old), which I use often for cooking dry beans. I use them all year round! I have to try your spaghetti sauce with the pasta in the crockpot - have cooked sauce in the crockpot MANY times, but never thought to throw in the pasta (duh). You can bake pretty much every single cake in the slow cooker!!! Just make sure you use a recipe with a dough; bake it in high for an hour initially, and finish it another 45 min in low!! … also put a towel under the lid to avoid condensation 👍🏼❤️

I live in the South…South California haha and we call them Crockpots here too…I’ve never heard anybody say slow cooker except on RU-vid… 🤷🏻‍♀️ A friend said her husband was complaining about the smell of the food cooking and I mentioned I might try it out on the back patio…keep an eye out for ants…and she said it’s working great. My own husband, passed away nine years ago, was thrilled to smell anything happening in the kitchen. 🥰 I’m anxious to try the rolls, never thought of that! Awesome job with the pizza too!!!

Video idea (not that you need inspiration)... but I would love to see an video on which items are still worth buying despite the increasing prices and which you are swapping for other food alternatives. For example, eggs have gone up, but they still seem like one of the cheaper protein staples for my house. Are you still buying eggs or is "breakfast for dinner" no longer a cheap meal? 🤔

I sometimes use egg substitutes for baking and save the eggs for hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, any directly eaten egg preparation. My favorite egg substitute is chickpea liquid from the can. About 3 tbs = 1 egg. I freeze in ice cube trays and it seems to work thawed. I buy chickpeas regularly so I use the liquid instead of throwing it out. Chickpea liquid works well in chocolate chip cookies. I’ve used it successfully as a binder in meatloaf. I wouldn’t be afraid to try it in any baking recipe. I’m always trying new recipes though, and my husband is afraid to try egg substitutes in new recipes. He insists on using eggs whenever trying something for the first time. 😂

I use my crockpot more than any other kitchen appliance. This summer has been a very busy one for us so l have been using it mostly for prepping things in advance. Once every two weeks l do up a package of chicken breasts, chicken thighs, or a small roast. I always add onions which are for flavor and future use, along with salt, pepper and whatever other seasoning will work based on what l have coming up on the menu. I keep everything in the freezer until l need it. I also make up big batches of mac and cheese, potatoes, or casseroles that are crockpot friendly and we can eat off of those all week when l don’t feel like cooking. We are in the triple digits nearly everyday this time of year so l find my crockpot invaluable. There are A LOT of days l don’t feel like cooking!! 😁

I love to use my slow cooker! I prepare dinner the night before and put the insert in the fridge. Then I turn on the slow cooker as I am running out the door in the morning.

We spend a lot of time with my in laws in the summer at their lake house. There is no air conditioning in the house and very few windows that open, so it gets HOT inside. I LOVE it when it’s my turn to cook dinner because I use the crockpot I bring from home and I don’t heat up the house. I can’t get my MIL on board with crockpot cooking.
