About a year ago, I made a few serving boards from some sawmill scraps that were in my firewood pile. This year I wanted to make a bunch more for gifts and to switch things up, I decided the focus of this video should be on the batching process vs the prototyping process that we went through last time. This video was inspired by a viewer who asked how long each board would take to make.

Ive been watching you mill logs for a long time and enjoy seeing the grainin the boards. This is the first time I watched you make something useful like the charcuterie boards. Awsome display of how you go about making them in batches. I learned the steps to make my own boards thanks for an excellent teaching class.

I am really happy you did this. I have been watching a lot of sawmill videos recently trying to learn all I can and so many sawyers toss so much wood in the burn pile that can be used for smaller items than a slab table. It could be sold as is to woodworkers even. Maybe not for much but to pay the fuel bill!

These look like a good project to batch out. Seeing your “batching” process helps. This year I batched out turned ice cream scoops for the first time. It was a real learning process because batching things out is a lot different than just making a single item.

my week before christmas gift for everyone is brazilian cumaru coasters. Ive made 60 of them, only 18 are actually finished so far, 3 sets of 6. They are end cuts from some amazing teak hard wood flooring I installed. I preserved the flooring finish on the top and routered out the bottom for feet and rounded off all the sides. Finishing wax and done.

@ericwilliams7374

I was told by an old timer, as a rule of thumb for drying out wood to work with, you should allow around 6 month for every 5 to 6 inches. So, if you have a log that is 12 inches in diameter, you should wait 12 months before using for any projects. That's why it's a good idea to build up a supply of wood so you can have some ready to use.
