This is awesome man I’ve been really discouraged trying to outfit my 12th gen lots of tacky parts on the market compared to other trucks, going to fabricate bumpers this design is super simple and functional and looks great.

Have you bumped into anything to see if it sticks out enough to protect? I'm looking at doing a tubular for my tahoe and while I hate the look at the gigantic ranch/bull bumpers, yours looks like it might almost be too low profile for wheeling. Looks good though 👍
@NSQGarage

Thanks. No I haven't hit anything. But I think I have been in some situations where a bigger bumper would have hit. All that approach angle really keeps me out of trouble

Nicely done. Have you done the same for the rear bumper?
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 2 года назад
No, I was able to find an RPG bumper. That was such a good deal. I couldn't pass up. I was going to purchase their high clearance hitch anyway for liability reasons and basically got the bumper for free.

I would use a jack to pry the ends of the bar back up
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 2 года назад
So I tried to use a floor jack on the end of the bumper and it was lifting up the front end of the truck lol

Not related but seen your clip reviewing your truck but did you ever resolve your rear defrost? I am having that problem
@NSQGarage

Well my rear glass shattered in a windstorm. The replacement fixed the problem lol

Nice work! What was the length (before bending) of the tube for the main tube part of the bumper?
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 2 года назад
i think i started with a 10 or 12 ft section. but i think with trimming, it ended up around 8 ft. you have to leave some length on each end for the bending process

What kind of mileage are you getting with the truck now? Curious what real world mpg looks like with 35" and a level w/ the 3.5L.
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 2 года назад
It really depends what I'm doing. On the highway in Utah I get like 15 mpg because it's 80 mph. If I'm going like 55/65 mph I can get like 18 or 19. If I am towing I get 10 mpg.
@tempusfugit3635

have you tried mounting a hitch winch in that front hitch? will it reach back?
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 2 года назад
Not yet. But I am planning on using an extension to get the reach I need.

What size rims do you have on your truck, if you have 17s did you have any trouble with the outer tie rods rubbing on the rims when you turn?
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 2 года назад
they are 17x8.5s. they have 0 offset. i have never experienced any rubbing.

I screwed it to the crash bar in front of the passenger side tire

Did you put any clear coat on the aluminum plate?
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 3 года назад
I did not. I considered it. But it's relatively inexpensive so I figured I will replace it periodically
@colbibaggett928

I tried looking up different kinds of pipe that would be good for what you're doing and can't find anything. Where did you get yours at? All I can find is the threaded pipe that's only about 4 ft long. TIA
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage Год назад
So I would look for tubing and you will need to go to a metal specific store. The one in my area is called Metal Mart. Off road shops my also sell tubing. ERW tubing will save you money over something called DOM. I think ERW would be fine on a street bumper.

What did you paint it with? Long term solution?
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 2 года назад
I'm assuming if a true professional did this right, it would cost more than the bolt on from various companies out there (ADD, RPG, ETC) because it would be a one off. So possibly over 2K if they do it the right way. Just a guess though.
@NSQGarage
@NSQGarage 2 года назад
I think I responded to your first question lol. But I used some Rust-Oleum. But I am going to repaint it with Steel-It Black. I didn't realize it came in black when I first made the bumper. But I will be making some changes to the bumper soon, so I figured it's the perfect time to put a new finish on.

@@NSQGarage nice! Thanks for the response. I have a ‘16 XLT with a chrome bumper. It’s wrapped right now but I’m looking for a better solution. Either painting it or a new one, looking to spend no more than $800. I’ve heard painting chrome doesn’t last so idk what to do
