In this video, I will show you my "work-in-progress" making bath bombs! I will try to use 3 different molds and you'll see wich one works best! This is not my usual zone of comfort, so please be patient with me!
I'm sorry, I guess I was tired when I finished editing this video! Sorry for the few glitches but I think I'll just leave it like this! :-)
Have fun watching!
Here is a basic bath bomb recipe for loads of fizzy fun in the bath tub!
2 cups baking soda
1/4 cup sea salt
1 cup citric acid
1-2 tea spoon Fragrance oil
4 table spoons sweet almond oil
a couple sprits of witch hazel water distillate

Awwwe bless you Ariane, I know that bathbombs can be incredibly tricky.. I used to teach the bathbomb making team at LUSH, and I have to say Cocoa Butter is definitely the "magic bullet" here in this.. Im based in England, but my fail-safe ingredients are only using: - Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Creme of Tartar Powder, Unrefined Cocoa Butter (melted), Fragrance Oil, Mica/lab Colouring... that's it, no whisking, no spritzing with anything - DONE!.... I use metal molds. But your doing great here i have to say :-) Much love & blessings from the UK.

The recipe i use is 2 cups baking soda, 1cup citric acid, 1 cup epsom salt, 1 cup corn starch, 5 teaspoons of cocoa butter, 4 teaspoons of fragrance oiland 1 1/2 teaspoons of water. It works great, and the bombs are extremely firm!

1. I am a big fan of yours, please keep it up. Dont give up. 2. Dont use the mixer, use a whisk. 3. Mix all dry ingredients first. 4. Mix all liquid ingredients aside. 5. Dont put the liquid ingredients so fast with the dry. It will fizz out fast. Do it bit by bit. 6. When you PREP before making bath bombs, put a liner underneath your work area so you dont go crazy cleaning. 7. 100 bath bombs is amazing. But if you want to make more, wake up at the crack of dawn. 8. Buy more than one plastic bath ornament if you like the size and if you cannot find the metal one. I see you trying to get them out kind of desperately. Patience. :)

Don't melt your cocoa butter all the way, just soften it into a sticky mess and cream together with the dry ingredients. The powders absorb melted butters, softened butter coats them and helps it stick

I am very new to soaping and such, but have been making medicinal salve for 3 yrs and an oil shampoo for hair growth. Lately, I have had to do loads of research and stuff and start making my regular salve plus laundry detergent, lotion, soap, dish soap everything lol. Because of allergies and such no alcohols can be in our products in my household. SO I have watched hundreds of videos on many many channels and read many blogs etc and I really LOVE how polite and sweet all of your followers are. Everyone is very helpful to each other and gives advice instead of rude comments. I have seen some pretty hateful ladies on other channels. I really respect your work ethic and stamina and consistency, Ariane. Consistency is my downfall. Full of great intentions and ideas but staying consistent with one hobby is hard for me. Anyway I think your channel is my favorite!

Hi there I know this is an older video but glad it is still posted, it really helped a lot. I have just spent the day watching all of your bath bomb press reviews, although I think you said you did 3 reviews and could only find 2 must be a third review out there someplace, but no matter, you have helped me finally decide which bath bomb press to get because it IS a big investment. I certainly do appreciate your candidness and also your frustration. Your video is seven years old but today my feelings are exactly the same have spent weeks trying to make a silly bath bomb and finally have given up but NOW plan to purchase a press and hopefully that will help. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR VIDEOS. They are so appreciated. -Momo

I only sell five scents and I make about 500 on Monday and then again on Thursday, by this time I have sold about 90% if my stock. I would love to make about 500 or 100 of each scent four days a week since they are starting to sell. The cocoabutter makes them extra hard and if you want them to feel like bricks add 1 tsp of kaolin clay per pound of mixture.

Another youtuber skysouthernbeauty uses 70% alcool. She wants to avoid too much moisture in her bath bomb in order to keep the fizzyness. Check her channel!!! She is well versed in bath bombs and happens to use a press too. Maybe that would help? Good luck!

I bought a set of steel molds from ebay, for a really great price, like $5.00. I use a heavy spoon to pack them, and use the spoon to whack them loose, they hardly ever break in 1/2 too. They are just like the plastic decorations but they dont break! Run a search on ebay for '2.25 inch steel bath bomb mold'. They will make ithe job easier, I promise! :D

Well for someone who doesn't like making bath bombs, you sure did a great job. Making 100 in a day is a big deal. I think you are underestimating yourself. That really is a lot. I get tired after just making 20 or so. Of course I don't have the type of business you have but yours look great. I wish you would show us how you package them. Too bad about your bath bomb machine. Sounds like so much money wasted. I bet that really bothers you, it would me. I think you are doing fine making them just the way you are.

I finally had a batch that turned out perfectly...hard as a rock and didn't bulge or crack yet-a week later. I really think there is a magic 10 minutes where you can mold them easily. I never make more than I can mold in about 10 minutes time-so your recipe looks good on that account. One thing's for sure-I used many more spritzes of liquid/alcohol/witch hazel than you did and I always just use grapeseed or sunflower/sw almond oil as my oil and I only fill a 1/8 cup measure with oil/fragrance oil. Another lady below said she adds the citric acid last to the "buttered and scented soda mix." I went a step further and wetted the citric acid first in the bowl so it looked like wet sand at the beach and then added the oil/soda blend with a wire wisk and for some reason these bombs stayed together perfectly with a really fine texture. Don't know if it is the lesser oil amount or the dampened citric acid when it hits the soda.

I think your bath bombs came out great with the Christmas orderment. This just goes to show sometimes less is more. My dollor orderments have never failed me. I'm going to try stepping it up to using a ice cream cone silicone molds I bought a couple weeks ago for the bath bomb part and cp soap for the ice cream. My plan is to use an fo that has vanillin in it so it will look like chocolate ice cream when I'm done. Don't give up on the bathbombs yet your deffently getting the hang of it. You inspired me to try this ice cream cone idea so I will post pictures on the group's pages we all belong to.

I actually just mold them by hand. It looks really neat if you call them bath snowballs even. :) I do a coconut one and it really does look exactly like a snowball. I also use shaped molds to do pumpkins, sea shells, etc. They work awesome and kids love them. :)

Sorry you had problems. Me too. Kids and I used small plastic cups that worked ok. Someone out there has metal ball shaped bomb makers. Those wont crack or break. I'll send you a link if I find them again. Also, spritzing with witch hazel as you go, to help keep the mix damp, worked well for us. Thanks for sharing.

I love your channel and I watch this a lot, I don't make soap like you do and I am trying to learn. I make fizzy bombs all the time. like yesterday I made fizzy bomz for 14 hours straight. I will make a video and share to you so you can see how I do this. I am in the deep deep south united states and I have to deal with strong humidity. since you are near water/lake you may be having some of the same issues. I had to adjust my way of creating this for my geography. I want to help you because this is really actually fun and lucrative. so I will do the video for you very soon and see if it helps you out a smidge. I truly love your way of soap making and am getting the courage to brave the soap making. I do make foaming soaps and liquid soaps like body wash and shampoo. just not bath soaps in molds and stuff. I want to try it though. :) sallye from dr sal's essentially natural lotions

Hi Ariane. Well done. They can be really tricky to make. I remember when I first starting to make them and they would fall apart every single time. My first order for bath bombs was for over 1000 - I was in tears! I almost threw away my Willow Way press until I got the knack - You have to BANG it down hard! They say just a few 'taps' in their instruction book, but watch the guy BANG it down hard in the video. Also, try the round ball mould from Willow Way, and use concave cupcake or patty cake tins to rest the bomb in as soon as you make it - and you will have a nice round ball every single time. They can't sink flat (unless your mix is very wet.) I'm happy to share my recipe/formula with you if you like.

I tried the meatball maker as well! Ha!! I just bought the ornaments and I am so excited to use them! I have made a few successfully with the baller, but I had to push my finger through the hole to help it release and then I still had problems with them splitting apart. I bought plastic molds from one of the supply companies and they are ok, but they leave a lot of excess around the sides and it looks like a planet when I take them out. I break it off, but still. Defiantely looking forward to trying the ornaments. Yours look great! I have had them fuzz up to! They look great, I come back 30 minutes later, and they are all fuzzy!! Bath Bomb Blues...

I'm with you. I hate the mess. Some things I have found though is when bath bombs stick to the mold it's because they are too wet. They need to be almost dry for metal molds. Also with the meat baller if you tap a few times you will hear an almost hollow sound that indicates when the bomb releases. I will do demo tomorrow on my channel with the Brambleberry 2 piece mold. Knowing when the release happens helps a lot. These are such a pain!!!

@darren8854 7 лет назад
You need to add a tablespoon or so corn starch or kaolin clay to help absorb some of the moisture and harden the bath bomb. You may also want to consider polysorbate 80 as the cocoa butter will make the bathtub slippy. As other people have said the stainless steel bath bomb moulds are a great thing to use. Before trying to pack them into the mould squeeze the mixture together and if it holds its shape it's good to go. Hope this helps.

Ariane, I think we all hate making bath bombs at some time, LOL. Today your bombs are da bomb! So fun to see this earlier video and see you try your press. I've tried bath bombs and fizzles and neither ever sold well enough to justify the expense of the ingredients, the mess created making them or the intensive labour required to make them. They'd sit on the shelves and go warty. I understand why you don't like them! Maybe 2018 I'll try them again since I keep getting asked about them, but I'm not enthusiastic about it. So I'm not sure how long ago u made the video or if u have perfected bath bombs yet but I have some tips.... I live on an island which is one big reason the bombs act up not sure if its humidity or sea air or both, so I use 1 part citric acid 1 part baking soda....! Otherwise they crumble within a week if that! Next I use corn starch and a bit of kaolin clay to hold together.... And if I'm lucky to get them with the zit texture those are great because they are concrete bath bombs just aren't pretty so I get FINE sandpaper give it a little rub and boom perfection!!! Good luck I love your videos!!

I'm so sorry to hear about the huge expense of the bath balm machine. Years ago when it first came out I worked with it at a soaping conference and even using their recipe I still had way too much trouble, and never really got a bath balm so I didn't get the machine. I knew of others that make them like no tomorrow and they love theirs, hope you get it figured out on how to use it. I bet your hands hurt after all of those, they are beautiful. I live in FL and I've not even tried them as I don't think I will be able to get them to work here with all the humidity.

Sallye Mouk hi there, on a ratio of 2 to 1 - B/S & C/A, how much SLS or SLSA should we use? Also, you mentioned making them when it rains, how do you dry your bombs? Thanks in advance

I don't use sls or slsa. I do 2 to 1 and then I blend my colorant into a light oil like jojoba or grapeseed. Then I use tapioca starch and cut my essential oils into that looks like a pie crust pebbles when done. Then I mix that into the dry items. Then as soon as the bombs are molded I immediately shrink wrap them. I will do a video ad soon as possible. This is my really busy time. But soon.

I use kaolin clay (1 tbs), it makes them harder and it absorbs humidity. Castor oil instead of any other oil.

Have you tried regular Epsom salt instead of sea salt. You can find it on amazon.com or Walmart.com or at your local pharmacy

I have the same bath bomb press and I have the same exact problem. No matter what recipe I use, the bombs always come out of the press split in two. It's very frustrating, since press was expensive. My recipes work great in the ornament mold, but never the press...grrr! On the rare occasion that the press gives me a bomb that is not split, it has a little cracked dent on top. Please keep us posted if you ever have success with the bath bomb press. Love your videos! :- )

Our batch does 18 bombs (30mm) and I do about one every 30 seconds with my business partner prepping the next batch and washing up from the last while I do the molding. Fortunately she doesn't like molding and I don't like washing :)

Ariane when making bath bombs you have to leave it in the mold for a couple of minutes before your remove it from the mold so you have to have more than two molds

I think making a 100 in a day is amazing. If I could make a 100 in a day I would be very happy. Great job! Maybe when your able to get your machine to work you can double your production.

Ariane did you ever get your willow bath bomb press to work. I really want one. Doing bath bombs by hand are becoming difficult!! Plus I want more continuity in my bath bombs!!!

John Masciarelli I was hoping that machine would work! I would call the company and have them send out a Rep to make bath bombs with it! I'm sure it cost too much to gather dust.

Leave the bath bomb in the molds for about 30 seconds or more. They are very finicky to make even for the most experienced of bath bomb makers. squeeze the mixture prior to molding them and if it's still not ready keep adding what you think it may need a tiny bit at a time. Cornstarch or kaolin clay helps to hold the bath bomb together.

how much Cornstarch do you use?

should the clay be used in place of the cornstarch?

I would try making smaller batches at a time and mixing with your hands I use tiny sprays of witch hazel at a time until it holds together but another problem might be humidity level where you live
