In this video I synthesize cyclopentanone ethylene ketal which is the precursor to the lengendary cubic molecule - cubane using a ton of organic chemistry while everything turns into tar

I must say, the level of your videos is just increasing, you have nice, proper glass setups, and you do stuff proper way, with safety in mind. I see a bright future in Chemtubing community for you! Tak trzymaj!

A nice trick for that kind of tall distillation setup is putting one of those metal rings meant for separatory funnels on one of your metal poles and taping one of those cork rings onto it. That way you don't have to rely on a single plastic clip to hold up your receiving flask a meter high up in the air and reduce stress on the whole apparatus.

Excited for parts 2 and 3! Just so you know, your bromine synthesis video and this video didn’t show up at all on my feed until today (16/1/24). I noticed these videos had way less views than you normally get- i think it’s the algorithm’s fault but idk how it works. Anyway thank you for your videos!

18:30 The best way to open stuck stoppers is a sharp but not to hard edge of a lab bench. Just hit the corners of the stopper one after the other and go around. This works 99 % of the times. If it doesn't, it's sadly hammer time... Edit: And of course prevention is very important too^^ If you have solutions that will crash out crystals, use teflon (PTFE) stoppers instead of glass ones. I have destroyed so much volumetric flasks in my career 😢 Just use teflon stoppers for concentrated solutions and you'll be fine. For any apparatus you'll heat, either grease it (with grease or sulfuric acid, depending on the individual use case) or use those cool nice teflon mantels. It will safe you from a lot of frustration 😂

Even using the Vogel procedure with Dean-Stark trap, the p-TSA hydrate is at best obtained as a grey colored solid. The crude solid works for most purposes. The recrystallising procedure using HCl(g) is a pain.

Lab support brick 😂👌 You need a short part distillation apparatus, the holy grail of chemistry RU-vidrs. Apparently^^ The distillation with a vigreux column is really only meant to separate very similar components. For simple purification of a synthesis product it's overkill. Edit: The toilet roll supported dean stark apparatus is pretty nice 👌 I work in an analytical lab, but still have to built contraptions like this very often! Being able to come up with an build such installations is so important in chemistry! Edit Nr 2: The christmas support brick, did you guys give it to each other nicely wrapped in christmas paper under the christmas tree? Or nicely thrown through a window?^^

Powodzenia, i do następnego.
