Another great video. Also the one aspect of this story I like, and what I wished All Tomorrows had, is that you get to see the world through the eyes of an individual. This story lets you see this universe through different perspectives and beliefs of different people.

Indeed, All Tomorrows was extremely broad whereas Man After Man gives you a brief glimpse through the eyes of many individuals with their own names, attitudes and unique viewpoints. Both awesome but in different ways.

Your voice is so captivating and I love hearing these stories read. Funny enough I find that listening to stories helps me focus on activities and these autobooks you post is helping me get through the agonizing boredom of summer school! Keep up the great content I’m curious to listen to what other stories you read and what other videos you put out :)

Thanks for doing this book! Every copy is way too expensive, so this really makes it more accessible. This part was really interesting, going through the lenses of individuals than just a species as a whole. How come people dislike this book?
@BewareCast
@BewareCast 2 года назад
No problem! And I think a lot of people have a problem with it because they think it's just all about eugenics without actually really knowing anything about the book, or it's author.

If, somehow, this and All Tomorrows were connected (Nemo Ramjet discovering Earth hadn’t been as feral as once assumed and the Star People having had Earth-based deviants before meeting the Qu), I think we’d be all over the moon with the cool factor. Too bad info later in the book almost outright contradicts that possibility

Dougal Dixon is an excellent author. Imaginative and, honestly a lil nutty I think, as all good authors are! Also, very much looking forward to seeing his other work, After Man on the channel

I swear I subbed and put on the bell after listening to your entire All Tomorrows and the All Tomorrow’s fan content, but for some reason I wasn’t subbed. Tl/dr: I subbed and put on the bell, as I’ve already listened to both All Tomorrows and Dougal Dixon’s Man After Man, and love both immensely and thank you for producing this content! Cheers! Thank you😁

I never thought you would do Man After Man considering this channel is mostly themed around All Tomorrows. Though it's not entirely out of place considering this book is seen as the spiritual predecessor and antithesis to All Tomorrows.

19:30 this part of the book was really interesting because it look like if china was in a total collapse in a post apocalyptic period of it time it really shocks me that it’s so good a telling a story about political communistic collapse of the most powerful empire now sit in a puddle of crumble buildings and ashes less of survivors that still remain man after man is reminds me of George Orwell’s book 1984 but with a more deeper and darker level to it. Instead of like the government and everyone’s spying on you it’s just a complete collapse of what it was. But much darker. Man after man as a way, more powerful message towards it story then 1984 but a very more darker sinister story. That basically predicts even to this day.

My least favorite part of the book, so pessimistic that it makes the Martian War from All Tommorows look optimistic. Like humanity gains, tons of skills in genetic engineering and loses qualms over editing people....but can't figure out how to slow down reproduction rates???? What? We eventually suffer widespread population collapses from Malthusian causes but that does nothing to slow down global warming? Every successor culture is for some reason equally dismissive of the threat???? Kind of a confusing mess this part of the book was. Also, spacesuits exist so I don't see the point of the Vacumorphs as presented. Also, I've yet to meet someone opposed to eugenics on the grounds that we shouldn't try to learn to change ourselves. I'm sure they exist but this feels like a bad-faith argument from Dixon. Most objections i've heard have been towards things like forceful sterilizations. This wasn't even about breeding people anyway since all the ''monsters in space and in the sea'' to paraphrase from the dude in the last chapter.....they were all sterile, so maybe he doesn't even understand the word. All that said I admire the rest of the book and it's ambitions quite a bit regardless of this silliness.

Interesting how racist and Machiavellian these books are, I never would have known that without reading them. I guess environmentalism has come a long way since then. Nowadays we understand that capitalist overproduction is the problem, not overpopulation.

:| yeah... like its saving grace is that the writing is very textbook and matter of fact, but theres still significant gender essentialist, racist, and potentially ecofascist vibes. i still find it interesting to look at. as long as you read it with a very critical lens
