He says the bullying he endured 35 years ago was horrible...now he confronts the man who he says is responsible. abc13.com

When Greg Barrett (a KISD graduate from 1983, formerly known as Greg Gay) spoke at a recent school board meeting, no one expected would happen next. Mr. Barrett describes the horrendous school bullying he endured as a teen - proclaiming that the very man sitting on the school board is the person who bullied him some 35 years ago! Mr. Barrett believes he was attacked because his last name was "Gay".

its also not like they forced him out over something beyond his control. all he had to do was have some humility and be a bigger man and say "i regret that i did that to you im sorry the person i was then is no the person i am now" something really simple. but the fact he just laughed at the dood made him look like the biggest tool. and the saddest thing theres people like this running alot of things everywhere. where they just dont have everyones best interest in mind

Many don't even survive the bullying in the first place. Bullying is one of the top three reasons for kids and teens to kill themselves worldwide. So you're still here, still kicking, still going on with your life - I feel like you're on the right way. Most people bitten by a dog will fear dogs forever and society accepts that. It's only when humam predators hurt others that society thinks that the ones harmed need 'to talk about and get over it'. You keep going man, keep healing, keep living a good life and enjoy the lil nice things.

I was bullied in High School. About five years ago, the school bully who bullied me, approached me at the Mall and asked if I remembered him. I was with my kids and didn't want to start a scene, and told him I did recognize him, and didn't want anything from him. He then stuck out his hand and said, well, lets let bygones be bygones and forget the whole thing. I was shocked, he was still trying to deny his part and was pushing the responsibility on me. I told him, again, I want nothing from him and to get away from me or I was going to call Mall Security. The SOB had the nerve to try and hand me his business card (insurance agent) before he left. Well, last year, the son-of-a-bitch was turned in by his oldest Son for child molesting, among other charges . He got 25 years in prison. I sent a long letter to the Son, we've had some interesting chats since.

That was a nice thing that you did for his son. Abusers are often very good at hiding abuse and my portray themselves as great people to those around them. When their victims step forward others will often express disbelief. Even if there is no ill-intent this can make a victim feel isolated. Having someone to confirm that 'Yes, this person was abusive. I saw it too.' would be awfullly vindicating.

MY daughter was bullied. In 6th grade. I noticed her losing weight, lots of weight, she was more quiet, she seemed unmotivated, and cried out of nowhere. She finally opened up and cried our loud. Went to the school. Went to the kids parents houses to resolve it. 4 months later, she came home crying, it wasn't stopping. I called my landlord, broke my lease, and moved 23 miles away to a better school system. Best thing i ever did for her.

The bully Larry Hindt received a severance package totalling $955,795.72 which was afforded due to the State reducing the Katy school district’s funding by $513,754.56. He bullied and terrorised people which was even witnessed by Circuit Judge David Carpenter but the bully Larry Hindt still received a nearly 1 million USD payout at the expense of school children he would have been bullying and traumatising 30 years ago. This is why we have bullies. Not only are bullies able to operate with impunity and not be held accountable, but they are given a small fortune once their bullying has been exposed to the financial detriment of school students.

I was bullied in middle school. I was smaller, younger, and had become somewhat of an introvert while my parents were going through a divorce. I flunked 8th grade on purpose after I realized that those bullies would be heading off to high school and I would be rid of them. It worked like a charm. I have a summer birthday, so I had always been the youngest person in my class. The next year, I was suddenly the oldest. I was bigger than most, and I became popular over night. It was a great move. After that, I never let someone else be bullied in my presence. I got into several fights later on because I could not stand to see anyone get bullied. I didn't always win, but when a bully knows he is going to have to fight you, whether he wins or loses, he will think twice about it. They only like to bully when there are no strings attached. A physical altercation is often times that VERY LAST thing a bully is ready for. They are just as willing to avoid it as the kid they are picking on, and they are bluffing.

I share your fears for my own 5 year old son. When he does get picked on, my advice is going to be for him to cut loose and make the bully pay. I will not depend on any over-paid school teacher to settle the score, and I will not apologize for teaching my child to respond to aggression with more aggression. These anti-bullying campaigns are nothing but bumper sticker slogans, and we still see stories and videos of kids bullying each other everyday. If chivalry was not so loathed by modern society, perhaps more bullies would be kept in check. In 2018, the idea of the strong defending the weak, or men defending women.... it's frowned upon, and even made to look offensive.

She said she was going to the police, the school board and the newspapers if the school didn't take action. The girls were suspended for 3 days, their parents went ballistic! I have a lots of great friends now, and i’m not getting bullied anymore, i was shy at first (in high school) but now not so much, still a little shy but teachers like me and i have great and supporting friends. I got accepted into a great school and in a year i will be studying how to become a movie director, and hopefully i can say later on, that those bullied were nothing. That i, a hopefully kind person, came far in life, be good and successful and have an amazing family. And those bullies will be sorry for that they bullied me, because i’m sure they won’t be as good. They were bad at school then (now) never listened, never made homework, didnt respect teachers and other students. They will become terrible adults. Wow. I know what it's like to be in this man's shoes. I was also bullied harshly and mercilessly. From Kindergarten through 3rd grade, I attended a French-American Private school in Dallas. I can't tell you how much bullying and cruel mistreatment I endured. Mainly because of my struggles with a serious learning disability. It was around first grade that I began displaying symptoms of ADHD. Teachers just took advantage of it. Bashing me, mistreating me, you name it. Second grade was the worse of all because BOTH my teachers inflicted extreme cruel mistreatment on me. One of them even made fun of me every day knowing I couldn't defend myself. And as God as my witness, she even encouraged the kids to bully me. Taking advantage of the fact that I couldn't defend myself because of my disability. One time I got pushed down the stairs in front of the teacher and all she did was grab me by the shirt and say, "Stop your crying you baby." To this day, they've yet to apologize. They never will. They'll just deny everything. The kids all apologized and I forgave them. But those two teachers from Second Grade? Never showed remorse for their actions. They're just like this man, Hindt. Dishonest cowards. I would love to meet the man who suffered and tell him my story. We're both strong guys who went through a lot. I am about to be 27. And I am waiting for the moment to confront those two teachers. When I do, I'll show them that their sins hurt me and put me down, but I got back up. With God's love and his blessing to me of strength.

I was also a victim of bullying, my older brother and I were left by our mother when we were 1 and 2 years old, she was an alcoholic we were told. Our father had total custody of us and we grew up in our grandfathers house. We did not have much but we had all we needed, a large garden which we helped our grandfather take care of and a coal furnace that would have us opening windows in February. We never had a real bathroom just a toilet in the back corner of my grandfathers room, we washed up in the kitchen sink for baths. Not a Disney childhood but we were happy for what we had. Kids can be very cruel sometimes and would harass me over my clothes, the house I lived in, basically being poor. That was over 45 years ago, some of the kids that made fun are now adults that still live in my area, we do not speak ever, it is too late for that now. I didn't pick it up as I took my tray to the trash and THE SAME TEACHER I went to get help from gave me Lunch Detention cleaning the floors around this girl and her friend's. You sound a terrible person. Even if the bullies were horrible people you're literally the same as them.

Laughing for a serious event shows how unfit he was for his position, you don't laugh, you get angry.

Thank you for standing up for us that have been bullied. Being bullied changed me as a person. I wonder what my life would have been sometimes. We should never be ashamed and teach our children to tell someone if it is happening to them

As someone who was bullied all through my time in school, there is a difference between bullying and harassment.

No need to overthink it, maybe just do good things for yourself and treat others well when possible.

@@wayne8498 I agree, but physically assaulting someone is very different then some kid getting called a *Fag*. Kids need to learn how to stand up for them selves

I had one apologize to me 20 years after the fact. I was proud of myself when I refused to accept. I wanted to give a speech to him about how I was glad for him that he was trying to find inner peace but that I was not going to aid in providing it. I wanted to tell him he can continue to live with whatever torment he was feeling because his relentless attacks on me heavily influenced my life path and brought me to mental collapse in situations I would have otherwise handled. I wanted to, but I just said no thanks.

He still didn't admit to what he did. If he would admit it and make a sincere apology things would be different. But no, he's too fool of himself I guess.

"He was a bully, he's going to know where the weaknesses are. He can fix this" Awesome how he can put his personal grievances aside after calling him out and having a pragmatic approach to the problem, looking at the bigger picture

I was bullied relentlessly from the first grade until I graduated from high school. There was no one there to help me thirty something years ago. It altered me and my life and not for the good. I know what it is like to rather die than go face another day of torture and torment. We have to make these people stop bullying kids. The words that bullys use make kids feel less than human and not worthy of life. That is so painfully wrong to do to another human being!!!

No he *should* lose his job, because his reaction was not one of humility and regret... He just laughed in your face when you outed him. He doesn't deserve to serve education.

This is great man.. After what he suffered and the sociopathic like statement from Hindt . He still doesn't want him to lose his job says everything. 1st watching the original video I thought "Kids can be so cruel but good on you for confronting him". But hearing Hindt not even own up to it really shows the type of man that he his.

I was confronted a few years back by a classmate at a class reunion for bullying him. Apparently I didn’t acknowledge him at lunch in high school one time (we grew up together on the same baseball team but I never was that close to him outside of that). Even though it wasn’t true bullying in my eyes, it clearly affected him. I bought him a beer and sat down and apologized regardless. Moral is, you never know how your actions or words might affect someone so deeply. Own it.

1:35 “he can fix this” - maybe so, but a bully wouldn’t want to. Glad he lost his job. He shouldn’t have gotten a big payout though.
