The wet tissue paper and ziplock bag technique worked for me, so it is possible to start a mango tree that way.
@ARA-st4pg
@ARA-st4pg 3 года назад
i have done this with a couple, but last I crumpled up actually a plastic grocery bag around the seed inside plastic ziplock bag and the plastic does not mold, it worked much nicer than paper. Viva paper towels were the best paper towels that I have used, they did not mold quick like the cheaper paper towels, which i had to change out like every 2 days

my grandma started to grow a tree when she bought a house 40 years ago and now our tree grows more than 1,000 mangos a year (they are small, sweet, and orange/yellow). Our tree needed a lot of maintenance when it was first growing but once it was in adulthood, we just watered it daily and planted the tree in the backyard!

OH MY GOSH! Just 2 weeks ago I was searching how to grow a mango tree from seed, because I wanted free houseplants. Now you uploaded this one. THANK YOU! You are the only one who gave care tips because I started like 8, and I have no idea how to care for them. They already have roots now! I am soo thrilled it worked! But I used the paper towel method, since the vid I watched suggested that. I also started like 6 avocado trees lol. Sorry for the rambling.

Thank you Scarlett, for showing us the best way to get the mango seed out, by simply cutting the hard shell on the thin, softer side to make a slit. This is the easiest and safe way that I have seen. I am excited now to grow my mango tree. With all the information you gave us, I think I have a high chance of succeeding. Take care.

I grow mango trees in here in the UK I also gave some to a place that I go to but they over watered them, killed one and the other two lose there leafs in winter but grow back in summer. When I grow my mango plants I normally plant about ten seeds because not all of them survive the first year and ensures I get some healthy mango trees that carry on growing. Mine are about 3 years old now.
@ovidiustefan9337

I just put my 2 mango seeds in soil, watered them once (it was pretty cold in my country this month and not a lot of sun so there was no need for more water) and now, 2 or 3 weeks later i have 2 beautiful mango plants who look really healthy and grow really fast. I think putting them in soil after you remove that brown thing from the seed, is the best option. They also developed a really long and nice root system. The only down side to this is that, if you are a curios person, you won't be able to see anything happening in the first one and a half maybe 2 weeks, but once you see it emerge from the soil it will grow really fast. Mine emerged a few days ago and now it is more than 6 inches/15 cm tall. The other one emerged a bit later, but it is catching up. So definitely start them in soil and make sure not to drown them in water. Water your soil only if it feels dry at the top and don't try to make it grow faster. Leave nature do it's work

My mango plant I sprouted from a seed randomly decided to have GIANT leaves. They sorta show up as red fancy leaves, then just droop like a wet sock till it start gaining green pigments in them, and slowly rise like an umbrella. Very interesting way to get new leaves as it likes to get the size first before it start using them :D

It should be noted that when you grow a mango tree from seed you won't know for sure what kind of mango you have until it bears fruit. Chances are good that it won't be the same kind of mango as the parent tree. If you want to be absolutely certain you're getting a specific variety you need to use the potted mango as "rootstock" and graft a "scion" from the tree you want onto it. I did this with a mystery mango tree I got from a neighbor...grafted a Lemon Merengue onto it. Grafted trees should produce fruit sooner.
@chairwithoutwheels9148
@chairwithoutwheels9148 Год назад
Depends if its poly or mono embryonic. The one tree that sprouts from mono seeds will not be identical to the mother, but with poly seeds, one will have been from fertilization like the mono, but any others that grow will be identical to the mother tree, and thus the mother fruit.
@rherteux
@rherteux Год назад
@@chairwithoutwheels9148 Yep, good point...thanks for pointing that out. One year I got a lot of varieties of mango drops from a local mango farmer and opened the seeds. The vast majority of them were mono but a few were poly. I sprouted them and one of them is growing in my back yard now. We'll see what happens.
@Acev14
@Acev14 11 месяцев назад
Did combining the plants alter the taste of either fruit ?
@rherteux
@rherteux 11 месяцев назад
@@Acev14 If you use the grafting method (or similar, like air layering) the resulting fruit should taste exactly like the parent fruit. I think the same can genreally be said if you sprout a polyembryonic seed and then use the dominant sprout of the bunch.

Awesome video, thank you! I now have a 2 yr. old mango tree from seed, but I was having some problems, which I will hopefully be able to solve now. I've actually started adding nutrients to the water and it started growing new leaves which it hasn't done for a while before that. It's about 20-30 cm-s tall, but it's lost a few leaves and I had no idea about frostbite, especially since the tree stands on the windowsill, above a radiator. Thank you again! You've helped a lot.

This technique of putting the seed in a glass as described in the video 100% works. I did it and in a week I saw a root coming out, however I think I may have unintentionally put the seed upside down because the sprout it coming out of the top instead of the bottom! Not sure how this will plan out as I am not even at home and unable to check it. I did change the water when I went to check on it. Anyone who is looking to grow a mango plant this is by far the best method to do so. Good luck!

P.Varsani no, it's not, you just put it in a pot with whatever soil you want and it'll sprout within the week. I have 4, they're about 14 inches tall and 1½ months old. You just need to water them everyday, no need to do all that unnecessary shit. Seriously one of the easiest trees to grow.

Mangoes die at temp -2C for 30 minutes, I recommend if you don't have a greenhouse. .You can plant mangoes have it trimmed like a "Dwarf"planted in a large pot with wheels that you can wheel out in summer and can be wheeled indoors in winter time. Sunlamp and adequate water are a must. We live in Central Florida, our friends in NY or Chicago can get their tropical fruits on that recommendation. The best alternative is a greenhouse, if available.Mangoes tolerate heat 25-35C in summer 10-20C in winter

I have just decided to try and grow mangoes. I have an order coming in next week and will ask my son to keep some of the seed back. Your advice was great, you added a lot more detail than some channels, which literally show you how to germinate the tree and nothing past that point. When I had building work done, I had a radiator placed below the lounge window, when the curtains are drawn that heat becomes trapped behind, thus warming the sill area. I also have a greenhouse in which I grow citrus, peach and melon. This autumn I plan to add heating to the greenhouse for the first time. I now think, following your advice, that I will overwinter the mango in the house (on the heated windowsill) and put it out (into the greenhouse) in late spring. My trees are all in containers and get moved about regularly, as needs must. I am now keen to get going on this new project! Thanks for your sharing your knowledge, Vox.

Okay, you either have a very small mango seed or a very big shot glass. I will try your method as I have always just planted the seed in the ground and gave it a blessing and voila.

In South Texas you can graph your mango tree in a large pot, and produce fruit, it gets really hot in the summer and fall with high humidity.

AZOMITE volcanic ash will DOUBLE the taste. My Kent and Haden peaked at 75 mangoes dropped in a day in Merritt Island. Delicious!

I was eating a mango and opened the seed/shell so i can put the seed in the soil and after 3-5 days it was sprouting 😊 once its growing leaves i will transfer it into a small indoor pot and put it in my room 😁

Nice work , Great video - Thank you As I know a mango tree in order to produce high quality fruit need to do grafting from another mango tree . I wanted to know if you have any experience with the fruit that comes from a Mango tree created by seed ? Thank you

I put my seed into a paper towel inside a tub in my boiler cupboard and it was the size of your seeds sprout in a day! My mango grows 1.5 cm a day at the moment and it's cold winter in the UK...
