This gsar automatic watch has proven itself in conflict all around the world. This is a testimony of the quality and ability these possess. This watch has earned an overhaul service no doubt. If all goes well I will share the results after it’s done.

The Oreo comparison was awesome. All watch reviews should use it as a standard of measure.

it's a great watch - I've had mine for a few years and it's a super touch watch. The tritium tubes are amazing - they don't look bright at first, but once it's dark it's so easy to pick them up. it's a watch that will never leave my collection.

I’m not even kidding when I say that the battle worn version is a lot more pretty & definitely more cool than a crisp new one. That is awesome & thanks for sharing. All the best from Canada eh!

Good vid. Thanks. I picked up the same watch as a retirement gift to myself as I intend to retire soon. Can't bring myself to wear it on duty though. I like disposables for work. Literally $10-$15 Casio plastic. The reason for the post...... I picked up what I BELIEVE is the same mesh band after watching this video a while back. It looks like exactly that band to me. It came from WatchGecko in the UK in case anyone else is looking.

Rob! Awesome watch! My first Swiss Watch was this Marathon. Loved it! So unique as a dive watch, and the depth of that dial feels like you're flying over a football stadium. I had to sell it to get my Speedy, but man, that's one watch I wish I could have back.
@ericlevine3897

Thanks for the information. I was starting to think about adding a new dive watch to my collection (believe it or not, but I don’t have a black dial one yet) and Marathon was a consideration. Your video sold me on the Marathon. Has the great tool look and has a story behind the brand to go with the look. Also, when manufacturers offer different sizes it’s difficult to select one without the ability to try it on. Because they look chunky I was hesitant on the 41mm size (I have a 7.25 wrist like you) but you rocked it. Thanks for the great video and I enjoy watching what you produce.

I wore a JSAR for 10 years, then switched to the TSAR for the smaller size, both awesome watches, the high torque quartz is awesome and I always replaced my own batteries.

Rob, you don't need a special movement, just hour, minutes and seconds wheels with a slightly longer axis for the higher mount of the hands. They are in the ETA catalog.

I have the 36mm version on my 7" wrist and it works great. It definitely looks small by itself but once on the wrist, it looks great. I can attest to the toughness of this watch, love it! Paid $512 new and delivered for mine with a discount code.

I bought a tsar new in 2005 and wore it everyday for years and it still keeps perfect time but they are Quartz and my tubes still work fine they are designed to be low lume for military non-detection.Tthose may still have some life as they should last 25 to 30 years. Try in pitch blackness and stare at the watch they get brighter as your eyes get adjusted to the darkness. They will never be C3 superluminova bright even brand new. Great watch hardly ever wear it anymore also on a shark mesh braclet but would never sell it and has gone up in value.

I have been torn. I currently have an SKX that has been my daily wear and a citizen chronograph that my wife (girlfriend at the time) got me as a gift and has sentimental value. I was thinking about grabbing a Steinhart GMT Pepsi because I am a big Magnum PI fan without a Rolex budget. But these GSAR seem like they end up being the last watch you would ever need but looks so similar to the SKX. Thanks for putting out these videos, I have some thinking to do

I sent her with 2 baby-g’s. Lol. One of which was a BGD140- 1A. I wanted it to have alarms, 200m water resistance, and it had to be all black. No fun colors. So it narrowed it down a bit.

Super cool watch, but doesn't quartz make more sense in a military watch? It's going to be inherently more durable, reliable, and accurate, not to mention much less costly to service. I love mechanical watches for their anachronistic beauty, but if my life depended on it, I think I'd prefer a quartz piece. What am I missing?
@christopherhosford7805
@christopherhosford7805 4 года назад
It's certainly an issue worth considering. I read somewhere that the military actually prefers mechanical watches, because in combat the enemy could use electromagnetic pulses to disrupt electrical systems, including quartz watches. I don't know if that's true or not, but worth researching. Also, the mechanicals are always working in difficult situations; batteries on the other hand might go out at inconvenient (i.e., dangerous) times. Just an observation. You can't beat quartz for accuracy, though.

gary they’ll technically glow forever, but their visibility drops continuously, so by the 10-15 mark they’re generally faint, and by 20 years basically undetected by our eyes

T (below) is absolutely right - this is a much older version of the GSAR. Does anybody know when the tritium tube was added to the seconds hand on the automatics? Currently, the quartz versions are the only ones with the red tipped triangle seconds hand (instead of tritium) and they also lack the 5 lines which are now seen between each second marker.
