Big thanks to Tony for lending in this Marathon, my first look at the brand and I am hooked. Now I really want to look at more models from the brand. marathonwatch.com/collections... www.longislandwatch.com/Marat...
I own a JSAR. Very well made. Very accurate. Mine does not hit the marks precisely (second hand). Kinda think. No, wayyyy thick. Still love it and my 41mm Navi.
I have this watch for about 10 days. It is moving so far, very accurately, there is no one seconds deviation even. What are your observations? How many seconds of deviation can be expected in a month or a year?
TSAR! Mine is about as old as my original orange Monster. Same size roughly. Sterile. US government. Tritium not as bright but glows at 4AM. Cross between watch and hockey puck.
Thanks for the video. Been looking at some of the smaller models of these myself. Very tempting. *edit: I do wish they had non-tritium options for all their models. From everything I've read, my fear is irrational as the risk is very low, but I'd just rather not have something radioactive on my wrist if I have a choice. The radioactive symbol right on the dial just kinda weirds me out.
.... does the bezel event rotate or move at all... I mean the bezel itself is a size of a dress watch... but it's a quartz so u never know... Ps. Gatchya Rob!
I just got one, 2019 JSAR II version WW194018. It measures 17.4mm thick from the flat center of the case back to the top of the crystal. Called Joe at Marathon and he measured 17.3mm for the latest version. The one difference visible is that the current version does not have an M on the dial under Marathon. So there seems to be 3 variants so far, JSAR I, JSAR II with M and different crown and orange tipped hands. JSAR III (if u wanna call it) is the same as II but without the M. Could lower height be another difference? Joe was not aware of a 1.4mm lower height for the version II.
I talked to a Joe yesterday from Marathon, very helpful, called the day before Thanksgiving to help me with the manufacture date on a used JDD I am looking at. Gotta to like a company that actually replies to emails and calls you within the same day as you emailed them.
You need to get the Marathon GSAR automatic to review. I think you'll be smitten with it. Two things though I've noticed with older Marathons.. the bezel gets very, very scratched up and the tritium tubes often come unglued and bounce around the dial under the sapphire crystal.
It is a thick and robust watch, I was almost pulling the trigger on one second hand, but the deal fell through as I didn't trust the seller after a long exchange of emails. Too bad it fell through but bought a different watch instead.
